Hey Everyone,

I have to admit I was a bit perplexed when I discovered there are paid services that help you figure out which other paid services you are subscribed to... Supposedly, they can help you can decide which ones to keep and which ones to ax -- and I guess with just about everything being a subscription now, the existence of such a service is a no-brainer.

But being my old-fashioned self, I miss the days when subscriptions meant print magazines, but most that I subscribed to are gone, only available in digital form (I like physically turning pages,) or are so ridiculously expensive that it's just not worth the price.

These days, about the only subscription service I have is for my phone/internet. I just don't find anything else to be worth it.

But, that's just me. What about you? I'd like to hear about the subscriptions plans you feel are worth it -- or not -- and why.

* What subscription plans do you find essential, or at least worth the cost? Streaming, music apps, fitness, gym memberships, warranties, etc.?

* What subscription plans were a rip-off, or waste of money? How did it go when you canceled them?

* What have been the subscription plans that were the hardest to cancel? (This is one reason why I generally don't sign up for them -- I've heard too many horror stories about them being almost impossible to stop.)

* What subscriptions do you allow your kids to have, if any? Do you have any family members whose finances are being drained because of too many subscriptions?

* Have you found warranty/service plans (such as "Apple Care", for Apple phones, etc.) to be worth the money?

In this culture of almost EVERYTHING being on a rental plan, I'd like to hear from others about where the value can -- and can't -- be found.

I only have a few. Water, electricity, car insurance, monthly Roth IRA payment.

I don't watch tv, so I don't subscribe to any of the galaxy of video subscriptions. I have my own music collection so I don't subscribe to spotify.

Subscriptions, I have a few
But then again, too few to mention...

What about phone service? I purchase that prepaid, by the year, and I might switch to a different carrier when any given year is expired. It breaks down to about 25 bucks a month, but it wouldn't be nearly that cheap if I paid for it by the month.

Oh yeah, I forgot one! The backup internet service that I have for when my main service is tinkering with its towers. I have a dinky little $6 a month tello plan, just 2 GB per month, that is perfect for emergency reserves. No matter what service you have, it will drop connection someday. Maybe 2 years from now, maybe for only one day, but there will be a time you cannot get a connection. For $6 a month, I don't mind paying to be ready for when that happens.

I'm going to be selfish and say you should subscribe to Spectrum since I work for them. We appreciate your patronage!
Well I don't, but not for lack of them trying! I don't know how much their budget is for mail, but they seem to be spending every penny on my mailbox.

Great plug, but alas, I've found a bit of a cheat code for home internet.

I'm on my family's phone plan at a discounted rate, and while they do have regular internet services at their residences, I just added a certain amount of hotspotting to my phone plan instead.

It seems to be all I need. I've never gotten a notice that I ran out or had my service stopped before the next monthly reset -- and the whole shebang for both phone and internet costs about $55 a month. I was quoted $110 a month just for internet alone, so I think this is quite reasonable.

The best part is that when I travel, I can take the hotspot service with me to pretty much any airport, hotel, or other location I'm at, all as part of my regular service.

I wouldn't want to use the public wi-fi anyway (for security reasons,) and I appreciate that my service can go with me instead of regular internet service that would just sit unused at home.

Oh my, what do I not subscribe?

Well, out of all the unnecessary things it’s Netflix, Spotify, the usual Apple scams, a guy who takes care of my late dads car, a Louisiana French app, some good stuff from the swamps, imported cigarettes, veteran magazines, real estate updates, the Houston Chronicle andsoforth.

 Why are you working for the enemy?
Ditch them for a better salary and a better company with better benefits too, like ... Verizon Fios :D:coffee:

I have phone and internet service that I pay monthly for. Then there are utilities for the house. That's where it ends for me. I don't care for subscriptions much. My truck drives itself on the freeway system and I like that but after 3 years I'll have to subscribe to keep that service. Goodbye self-driving feature.

Quite a few people are making monthly payments for subscriptions they've long forgotten about. Companies love to sign people up for subscriptions and sometimes do it surreptitiously. I balance my accounts each month to ensure there are no unapproved charges...
