It was originally so when you died, living people could identify your cold dead body, as it was permanently on your skin.

first tattoo in Bible was probably the mark God placed on Cain.
the last is 'the mark of the beast' and obviously, people are quite willing to get that nowadays, with the increasingly popularity of tattoos. Dont say you havent been warned.

think when the Bible refers to cuttings for the DEAD its obviously something to do with that..and printing marks well God has his reasons to forbid it for the Hebrews.

Jesus does have marks- the scars...on his hands and feet. but that was where the nails went in at his crucifixtion.

Not sure where this desire to inflict pain on people comes from or why you would pay someone to do it. Tattoos arent actually going to protect you from anything. Though apparently some alzheimers patients gets them on their hands so they can remember their own names.
But if you already know who you are then no reason really to get one, unless you have a memory of a fish or desire to worship a beast....

The christians that did get tattoos I recall it was a fad for them when they were younger which they kinda regret now cos it just shows how deep their faith was at the time..only skin deep!

as for shaving..well in Biblical times all Gods men has beards. Its only in modern times that men are encouraged to shave as it seemed to be a requiremt for the army, along with a crew cut.

The exhortation to not vex strangers in your land also seems to be totally ignored....

None for me. If I wasn't raised with it viewed as unbiblical I still don't think I'd get one. I like to change my hairstyle and fashion style frequently so I know I would get bored with a tatt.

I don't want to knowingly date a man with any tattoos but it might be difficult to resist if he has no other deal breakers.

I feel sad when I hear people talk of others with tattoos being a no no for a spouse, if it isn’t a case of just finding it unattractive. I understand convictions differ but even if you consider getting a tattoo to be sinful, surely if it was something someone did whilst unsaved it can’t be held against them? I mean aren’t they as “white as snow” under the saving blood of the lamb as any believer? Aren’t they made new in Christ? Let’s face it, most of us have done far worse things in our past - and made far bigger messes than ink ever could. Perhaps it is the fact we can hide somethings more easily that makes us forget that. We might be a little more forgiving of the visible marks of other people’s “sinful past” (if you see tattoos that way) if we could see the nail holes in Christs hands and feet... the visible results of our sins.

I dont think any of us has no blemishes on our skin whatsoever, I mean most women hide them under a ton of makeup and thats seen as normal. I know a few who shaved off their eyebrows, and they didnt grow back, so they got them tattooed on.

Tattoos do fade over time though, they might be permanent, but they lose colour or become blurry. One church member put her tatt on fb saying she got it reinked, It was of a tiny rose.

if you got the spare cash to spend on all that, well power to you. If you want matching tatts with your spouse or your names to remind each other who you are again then its up to you.

personally if someone told me i HAD to get a tattoo if I was going to be with them forever I would probably be a bit resistant to that. I kind of like my skin the way it is thank you

thinking on this..

nowadays many younger people that have tatts is just evidence they were hipsters. Everyone kinda hates hipsters but cant avoid them really. If they wanna throw their priveliged lifestyle choice into peoples faces at how they can afford to not afford things, well...most people arent fooled.

What are your thoughts on them? Do you have some or want some?
Would you date someone with tattoos? Do you think they are evil or okay for a Christian person to have?

Personally, I don't think I would get any. I am afraid that I would change my mind about getting one later on. I do find them attractive on men...as long as they are not evil things like the number 6 done 3 times, a skull, the enemy, or the name of another girl. I am interested in reading your thoughts on the subject. :)
skull, part native and say 19 years old life was miserable I got a skull with a headband and 2 feathers. dead indian. life was dead. left bicep. 21, guy I worked for was trying to be robbed at gunpoint. well, me I had to call him out to be robbed or shot. I refused, gun clicked. beat about the head 3 times in spots with the gun that needed stitches in a fight to disarm the guy .

glad to be alive I had some beers and my gf's mom knew jail style sewing needle and ink tattoo's and gave me one. her daughter's name.

I don't regret a skull. actually have a harley davidson willy G tat covering a name. have been dead. beaten to death. they CAN have stories. even minnie mouse if a girl lost her virtue at disney land.

but yeah, I wish I never had 7 including cover ups. none. but it's okay. I understand. I don't hold it against anyone else that does, like a woman. (I am a man)

and YEAH, I want MORE. just good ones... = )

I would rather meet someone with tattoos who has a changed, softened heart than someone who has no tattoos but an unchanged hard heart anyday.

thread with the title 'hearts' has yet to appear on CC singles forum....

surely that would be something to look into more than tattoos on the surface of ones skin...

With the current trend in cremations, there doesnt seem to be any kind of permanent memorial for the dead anymore. It used to be you had a headstone or gravestone or somewhere to go to remember someone who died.

Those things can actually be important although we often dont register them as important. Churches actually used to have land around them for burial of christians, entire graveyards, and this was considered holy or sacred ground. The dead wouldnt be marked on our bodies, jewish tradtion had mourners actually ripping their clothes but not tattooing their skin.

I had a friend went missing, and all her sisters got tattoos signifying their sister on them I recall. But that might have been cos they couldnt actually find her body, so she never had a burial. I planted a tree. I understand the reasoning behind it because its human to want to remember but God forbid it to His people for a reason and I think its maybe so people dont dwell on their sorrows.

I don't have tattoos. But I came close once. It was just a teenage thing and a few of us wanted to get one. I was just too cheap to do it, but glad I didn't. We were all going to get that barbed wire thing around your upper arm tattoo. The one everybody gets. Anyway, there was this friend of mine who is skinny as a rail. His arms are like #2 pencils. So he goes and gets the barbed wire tat on his bicep and it took all of about two minutes. It honestly looked really stupid. It looked like barbed wire around a fence post - like with one barb. And he did it on both arms! It looked like wrist watches. It was really funny. I was glad I was cheap and didn't consider one anymore.
