I'm sitting here posting to another thread and my dog starts barking out my window. I looked at him to see if maybe someone was out there and he is looking up into the sky and barking. Not at the tree, the sky. It's not his there's a bad guy bark but his something's out there bark. I didn't see anything. Maybe he is seeing Angels above my house or something?
Have you Brothers & Sisters pets ever act like they see something but you can't see it?
I remember one lady's testimony was she got a visitation from Jesus and they were talking about I don't know what but she said that at one point Jesus made the comment that, her cat contemplates God better than she does! Now she said He could tell that He was saying it in a jest and not being utterly serious. She said it was like an arrow anyway to her so she started spending more time with the Lord.
When I was a preteen, I came across a series of books in which 4 ghosts became friends and were trying to solve the mysteries behind their deaths. I can't remember the exact title or author, as I've been trying to find them again, but alas, I've only found other series with similar concepts.
The thing that sticks out in my memory about this series is that one particular time, the ghosts sneak into one of their family's houses at night. But a dog almost gives their presence away -- and the book explains that this is one of the few animals that can see ghosts.
This series was just made for teens and wasn't trying to proclaim anything profound, but according to the rules the author set out, only some animals, not all (and it didn't try to name which particular species) have the ability to see ghosts.
While none of us have any way of knowing what may or may not be true about this until we get to heaven, this immediately reminded me of Balaam's donkey, who could see God's warrior angel with a flaming sword.
While the Bible says God opened the donkey's mouth to speak (indicating this was a special ability for a specific time and purpose, not something that happened all the time,) I don't think it says God specifically opened the donkey's eyes at that moment to see the angel, so I've always wondered if the donkey could always see things in the spiritual realm.
This stuck with me as a kid, and I've always wondered if animals, or at least some of them, have a natural ability to see things in the spirit world. After all, I'm pretty sure all animals know their God, and I personally don't believe that there are any animal atheists.
I don't have any pets, but frequently see a relative's dog, and while she doesn't speak often, sometimes she will bark or growl at "nothing". My family will tell her it's ok, there's nothing there, and that she can just relax.
But me... I'm never quite sure, and if I had a pet, and this is just me, I know I would ask them what it is they see -- and ask God if there was anything I needed to be aware of or pray over.
I know many don't believe in ghosts and I understand that, but I personally do. I believe God tells us not to seek out speaking with the spirit world for a reason. When Jesus proved to the disciples that He wasn't a ghost, He said, "A ghost does not have flesh and bones as I have."
This was Jesus -- He knew everything about and helped create the entire world -- I personally believe that if there was absolutely no such thing as ghosts, He would have told them something like, "Oh Ye of little faith, why do you believe in such superstitions as ghosts?" But no, He simply said that ghosts don't have flesh and bones like He had.
We humans are so reliant on our own senses and intellect -- I think we often forget that different species have different abilities and/or senses that are thousands of times more sensitive in some areas, and it seems only natural to me that God would gift them in areas we know little to nothing about.
After all, the Bible says God delights in confounding the wise with things we find to be simple or below us.
So when I see an animal reacting to "nothing," I always wonder if something is really there.
But, that's just me.
