Hey Everyone,

In previous posts, I talked about the fact that I have always wanted to visit a castle, whether real or just a bed and breakfast in a residence built to resemble one.

And so I thought it would be interesting to see what The CC Friendship group thinks of going to a castle! Have you ever wanted to visit a castle? (Or have you been to one? How did it go?) All castles count, even if it's the plastic princess version your niece has set up in their backyard!

I was going to put this in Family, but since there are some serious threads going there (I didn't want to interrupt that vibe,) I'm hoping our married friends will still see it over here and join in on the trouble, er, I mean, fun! :)

1. What is your idea of an ideal castle? Are you more into a fantasy version, a real-life version, or more of a fortress-type structure? Which ones would you want to visit?

For example:

2. What parts of the castle would you most be interested in seeing? The dining areas, living areas, bedrooms, bathrooms, defense and battle stations/artillery, the towers, chapel, etc? And of course, who wants to see the dungeon??!! (I am especially interested in meeting the dragon that LIVES in the dungeon, of course!!)

I know it wouldn't be possible in most cases, but I would love to see the drawbridge being raised and lowered!

3. Would you be happy with just a tour, or would you want to stay overnight/a few days/spend your whole vacation inside the actual castle? Which parts would you most want to explore in detail?

4. Which role would you be taking at the castle? Are you a knowledgeable knight, precocious princess, friendly friar, dashing duke, or loyal lady in waiting?

The possibilities are endless!! :)

5. And, the most important question of all -- what kinds of animals should dwell in the castle moat, striking fear into the hearts of even the most savage of enemies?! I'm going to try to create a multiple choice poll where we can see people's answers -- just for fun! :D

Naturally, I'm voting for sharks -- with laser beams on their little heads (duh!)

* How about you?! * 😎😁😆

Well I did get to visit a palace and castle in my travels. And in one of the less intelligent decisions in my life slept open air out behind the ruin of a Scottish castle (which was really more like a guard tower).

My ideal castle is the classic castle design of round towers and walls with a moat with the outer fortification surrounding the inner keep.

And I'd love to see all the decor but I'm most intetested in a banquet hall full of food with a big blazing fire.

And I'd either be the loyal knight keeping the moat stocked with pirranah or else the scientist / inventor coming up with new and better castle defenses.

I was running errands and trying to catch up on the forum in between...

This message sped by my screen and my brain read this as, "fornication."

Either my temporary dyslexia was working overtime -- or I've been reading the Singles Forum for far too long!!!

Wow, move over Sea Word, you ain't got nothin' on Cinder The Knight hand-filling the moat -- with live piranha!!

Do you think you'd give them all names? Maybe Snap, Crackle, and Pop... Seems fitting for a school of bloodthirsty live piranha!

Not only will this keep our castle sufficiently fortified (at least, via water defense,) but it will also double as a highly sought-after paid entertainment venue if the kingdom ever runs low on funds.

Why, I'm betting we can charge double (plus the sacrifice of a few peasants) at feeding time!!

A moat creature that actually functions as a deterrent, I would guess the most effective choice would be a saltwater crocodile.
It’s territorial, aggressive, and capable of surviving in various water conditions, that would provide a “living perimeter.”
My second option would be piranha if the moat were warm and shallow, since they swarm and bite rapidly, though they’re less reliable than crocodiles. I would also land lock the area with wild boar because they are a dangerous terrestrial animal to place around a perimeter because they charge, gore, and don’t scare easily. Lasers for crocodile and boars optional.😊

Castles are usually drafty and hard to keep warm. And hard to cool in the summer. Bah humbug.

But for the moat I'd get the Loch Ness Monster. It would be a very big moat.

My moat would just have sticky slime. Maybe some eels.

Or I could fill it with spaghetti and tomato sauce.

The acid in the tomatoes will eat away any shining/unshiny armour.

I haven't thought of design yet but it doesn't seem like you have sand castle
