I am happy that you were not offended, but my apology still stands. After I apologized yesterday, I jumped in my car to go to the gym. On my ride there, I passed an automotive shop, and I pulled into their parking lot so I might inquire whether or not I could get a quick oil change. As soon as I walked in the door of the shop, I was an observer and listener to a conversation between the mechanic, a guy who was only in his mid to upper twenties, and a female customer who looked to be around 55 years old or so. What was the topic of their conversation? Their mutual contempt for Indians. At his end, he was peeved because Indians were buying up a lot of real estate in town and opening a lot of convenience stores. He also complained that he had Indian teachers while at college that he couldn't understand because of their accents while mockingly mimicking their accents. At her end, she was railing against Indian doctors. I was horrified by her language as she repeatedly uttered compound curse words that I could not repeat here.
What were the odds of me randomly walking in on such a conversation right after apologizing to a woman of Indian descent here? For me, it was confirmation from God that I was right to apologize, even though there was no malicious intent behind what I had initially said. So, yea, I will be more cognizant of culture before making comments here in the future.
