Huh is it all one house or is it self-contained with their own kitchen/bathroom?
Am not sure how that works, as homes here are rented out by the dwelling not the room, if its a family. If it's just a room and the landlady/lord owns the house, and they live in the same house, wouldn't that be more of a boarding situation?
I kind of don't know much about leases and tenancy agreements though mum did all that, but it also meant that if there was a long term tenant she didn't get much updating or renovating done at all. Like we could paint the outside of the house, but not evict the tenant so we can redo the inside while they living there.
Some people though, just rent and then move on to another rental when their lease is up. But mum had a family rent there for I don't know, something like 25 years!! They paid all the rent, power and water etc, and if there were repairs to be done they told us, got the repairs to come and mum reimbursed the sum or something like that. The house is like...60 years old. So definitely not brand new anymore.
If anyone wanted to buy it they'd need to do a lot of work on it, rewire it, do all the carpets, flooring, wallpaper or paint all over again, replace the cupboards, redo the kitchen and fix the holes in some of the walls. I looked at it and thought, that's gonna be a lot of work! And unless I do it myself, I will need to pay someone else to do it.
But I suppose at one point in your life you've got to do an extreme makeover of a house, its the privelige of being a homeowner /landlord. I'm not that interested in the house but I'd definitely dream of doing something with the front and backyard. Not put two more houses on it though.
I look at new homes and open homes being staged and they all look the same. White and boring. White and boring. The kitchens all look the same too. White and boring. At least Ikea has some personality, but this 'designer' industrial arctic blinding snow look does not really inspire me, nor landscaper done gardens. They just use the same plants over and over.
