Your turn, gentlemen. Tell us what we don't know about the heart of a man.

Julliana,
I Like your question. Let me preface my response with a little info on me. I did not become a christian until later in life. I lead my wife to the Lord right before we married. We have been married 34 years now. You did not specify if the responder should state if they were saved or unsaved. However,it does make a difference. :-)
You want ~insight~ on the heart of a man, I will try to give you some.
A man wants to be the head of the home. Aside from the biblical directive to do so (1 Corinthians 11:3) if a man is the head of his household (if his wife allows him to be so) there is no strife. This is merely reflective of the husband's desire to not ~rule the roost~ but protect that which God has given him. If he does not have control of his family, how can he have control of anything else in his life? (1 Timothy 3:5)riz

This might be a little off topic but this reminded me of something I thought of last night. I realized that when it comes to personalities women are sort of like cats and men are kind of like dogs. I mean women are sort of mysterious and independent, and men usually can't hide their feelings very well and sort of live moment-to-moment.

Sorry Julliana, I hit the wrong key and closed my post & didn't mean to.
Anyways, to continue. You will note, biblically, that the woman is to be this & that to her husband (Ephesians 5:22-24) BUT you will note that in Ephesians 5:25 that the man is to give his LIFE for his wife. Big difference in demands upon each, eh?
So, if a wife is ~subservient~ to her husband, she helps him in not only his walk with God but herself and her family.
A man, Julliana, also likes to ~solve~ problems. It is in his nature. After 34 years I realize that sometimes a woman does not WANT a solution, just someone to listen. So, to me, the wise wife would listen to his solution, then elaborate on her concern(s). It is just another way that there can be give and take in a marriage.
That, Julliana is the key, give and take. We are equal in marriage, really. But, if we (men) strive to fulfill the desrires of our wife, we believe that our desires will be considered. When they are not, and we are trying, we can get confused. This can lead to many problems down the road. If I try my best to give all I can to my wife and there is no reciprocation, how do I know my efforts are appreciated or even wanted?
You'll note, Julliana, that I do not have many ~posts~ to my name. This is not that I do not wish to respond to that which I see in the forums, but honestly - any response usually becomes a back and forth of one's ~opinion~ over anothers.
That is why I said I liked your question. There is no ~right~ or ~wrong~ , merely insight.
I will ponder upon your question more, Julliana, and express other things ~on the heart of a man~.
Thanks for your question Julliana.

My Heart leaps into action when there is a woman in distress, I have never been stronger than when I am helping a Lady who needs my help. But thats me, Men are different.

Cavil, thank you so much for your thoughtful response. :)

Gabe, I have always thought too :)

Hal51, I have worked in a man's world all of my life and most of the men I know feel exactly as you do. No matter how highly competent a woman may be, a man's first instinct is to protect her, often at his own peril.

Also, cats bathe regularly, just sayin'.

Gosh... I remember men like that! they are still out there???? I am comforted to know my perspective might just be geographic!

I believe John Eldredges book Wild at Heart stated it best. The question on every man's mind is "do I have what it takes?". I find in my own personal life when I'm really struggling with something and come down to the root of it all, this question is a central one 9 times out of ten.

I've tried navigating Nuke's heart at times...

But I got lost somewhere between the ammunition and the forklift.

I feel you know more than we do sometimes... :)

I think I would agree with two things above - Men's natural instinct is to protect a woman. (I think that he knows)

In addition to this, men are problem solvers, we like solving problems and it frustrates us if we can't.

Other than that hmmm, men are different, I think I am quite sensitive compared to most guys. My heart is fragile... I feel we react differently when we are hurt though. I feel we pull back and withdraw from a situation - as opposed perhaps to a Woman's general reaction, which I am not sure what is.

Thoughts?

The mention of man as the protector is sort of ironic, especially when we see so much violence perpetrated by men against women, children and other men. That's one reason women have to be so careful when it comes to dating or choosing a spouse. When I guy breaks up with a girl, the worst that usually happens might be some damage to his vehicle. But women who break things off or divorce a man are often in danger for their lives.

The heart of a man is dangerous without the guidance of God. Without God's intervention the heart of men grows hard and bitter with egotism, self-righteousness, envy, jealousy and hatred. Think of the war mongers and mass murderers, the child molesters, rapists and bigots, the overwhelming majority are men.

Gotta love us. :)

Ha, Stuey, that made me laugh. "Our reaction is opposite from a woman's! I don't know what the woman's general reaction is...but it's opposite!"

;P
