The recent landslide victory (75 percent) of the new District Attorney for the city of Philadelphia in America March 20, 2018, is nothing short of miraculous! Another amazing event was that he was sworn in by his wife, a new state judge. This is in keeping with other dramatic events related to Philadelphia, which is mentioned in the Book of Revelation. His miraculous victory gives hope to those who lives have wrongly been devastated, or ended, due to minor offenses, and the often permanent PTSD damage caused by "Institutional Trauma Syndrome." (a personal term I use to describe the severe psychological trauma that can result in permanent psychological damage), or even death, as in the case of Sandra Bland of Texas, and Kellsie Greene in Anchorage, Alaska. This is due in part to people accustomed to modern 21st Century, especially first offenders or low-offenders, or vulnerable people, being subjected without any transition, to archaic, and obsolete incarcerational facilities, based on principles dating back to the 16th Century and the legalistic mind-set of "eternal punishment" for the sins of society, and pre-Reformation views.
Jesus was well aware of the inherent injustices of legalistic punishment, and the possibility of putting innocent people to death by Capital Punishment, something ultra-conservatives seem to be obsessed with.
This is why He made a point of beginning His ministry by saying (quoting the Prophet Isaiah):
"The Lord's Spirit has come to me, because he has chosen me to tell the good news to the poor. The Lord has sent me to announce freedom for prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." (Luke 4:18; NIV; biblehub.com)
Acccording to the story in the "New Yorker," (newyorker.com; magazine, 2018), Krasner's father was a free-lance writer and his mother was an evangelical preacher before having children.
And also according to this news story, :
"Krasner’s first initiative was to eliminate cash bail for most nonviolent crimes. “We don’t imprison the poor in the United States for the so-called crime of poverty,” he said. In March, he sent a memo to his staff outlining his policies, which he described as “an effort to end mass incarceration and bring balance back to sentencing.” Few of the ideas were truly new—many progressive prosecutors have stopped prosecuting people for possessing small amounts of marijuana, for instance, or have increased the number of people diverted from prison into drug-rehab programs—"
It was also in Philadelphia where the Philadelphia Eagles football team won the superbowl, just as the massive asteroid passed by the earth, on February 4th of this year, 2018.
"your young men shall run and not faint..." (Isaiah 40)
and,
"they shall rise on wings of eagles..."
Wherever you are today, celibrate this amazing victory of freedom in America, and the end of the "mass-incarceration" era, and the spiritual victory of "Freedom In Christ," for all who endure to the end, heralded by Jesus Himself in Nazareth, and again in Revelation.
