Wow! Archery! I'm in. :D:cool: Probably would need to clear all civilians out of the line of fire, as I haven't loosed a shot for many a year, but I do have fond memories. Not so fond of the arm bruising, but I guess that is how one develops toughness?

Whangdoodles beware!!! >->-----> >->-----> >->-----> 🦑🦑🦑💭‼️⁉️‼️

*relief* I'm thankful to hear that! It's been a while for me also. And your mention of arm bruising reminds me of the first time my father was teaching me archery. I ended up with a big, nasty bruise on my arm. I had to go to school the next day. I lived in the country and had a long ride to school. With my big bruise, I wasn't looking forward to it. However, all the boys thought I was cool lol.

Sounds like we're the perfect pair for this sporting mission. We might even end up less bruised and more cool! 😅😍 <----<<

Lol. Good thing they can't see you now, with an insolent jester's head on a stick, a large mound of the only remnants of your enemies behind you, and a necklace of the most egregious ones about your neck. There'd probably be another battle... ;)

Happy to take on more bruises to increase coolness for the sporting mission. :p

Oh that doesn't work then, need 4 players for handball, and two of them don't even know how or want to play.

This is as bad as the courtship thread.

Table tennis? Or Ping Pong.

I am not surprised Lynx can't be bothered, however it appears he exercises his thumbs regularly playing video games all night. That's why he naps during the day. Of course!
Just give me a racket, a handful of ibuprofen and I'll see what I can do.

Yous should play tennis, because there's better chance of scoring love.

According to TennisChampion.org, the original came from either the less like french, loeuf, for "egg" or the shape of 0, or it means you're just playing for the love of the game.

I would've played the indispensable libero defensive specialist in volleyball if I hadn't played before the position was introduced in 1998 by the FIVB (Federation Internationale de Volleyball). I mean, I suspect I might've even inspired the introduction...
and I invite anyone to even try and serve, bump, hit, or spike a volleyball at me. 🏐

I briefly played volleyball in high school...

In the spirit of the Obstinate Outline Outliers thread in the Family Forum, I am so clumsy and uncoordinated, I couldn't just toss the ball and serve it like a "normal" volleyball player does -- I'm terrible at catching and throwing anything, and would just miss when I tried to hit it.

Rather, I had to do all my serves sideways, so that the ball remained a still and steady target upon approach.

(One of the biggest lessons I learned in school is that it's REALLY a mistake for me to attempt any sport of any kind!) 😆

Therefore, I bow to your mastery of volleyball -- and would love the chance to see you in action! 😍

Is this beach volleyball?

I prefer the playing volleyball with a balloon cos those volleyballs can hurt you.

I'm no good at playing competitive sport I like fun sports where you get to make your own rules. I remember playing t-ball in high school, my friend would bring her wooden bat to school so we could play it during breaks.

We were close friends in intermediate (middle) school but when we got to high school we were shocked to learn that high schoolers never played any games during break time and just hung out chatting to each other. We were so bored!

It was seen as childish to exert any physical activity during break times unless you were training or wearing PE gear.

One of the primary schools I worked in had their courtyard right outside the library...although there was another, spongey one with high wire fences so kids could play hockey without balls or pucks flying everywhere and hitting passersby.

Anyway I had endless problems with children running into this library when the doors were open. Some schools are badly designed or they didn't think about things like this.

If I were to design a school the courts where you play ball would be at the back of the classrooms and you could use the walls to bounce balls off. The class rooms would overlook the field but there would be slopes that led down to the field, so the balls would not fly into any windows or roll into classrooms.

Also the courtyards between classrooms would have drinking fountains, shade trees that didn't have huge leaves for the caretaker to blow away, and benches with tables you could sit and eat your playlunch.

Maybe richer schools had these IDK. One school I worked in just borrowed the nearby sports stadium to do all their sport, and they were in the former council building (which was leaky). The library was in the basement, and I had some problems there too, with children wanting to use it as a ball pit. :D

My cousins lived near a tennis/netball court, if you climbed through a hole in their back fence, you could enter the court.

I was useless at tennis as the racquets were too big for me. I was also the smallest child at school for my peer group, so I was always stuck playing centre in netball, and could never be goal shoot. I couldn't throw very far either.

It was a drag being the youngest in the class and the smallest. Parents would prefer to keep their children back a year at school because being the youngest and smallest is a huge disadvantage, esp when it comes to sport.

...I have some residual obstinance seeping over from the bdf... My apologies. I don't transition well go from here to there and back again, and I get disoriented. But that does bring up the question, why are singles seem to possess so much better sportsmanship? I would've have certainly got at least a bump if not a spike or two in the bdf... 🤔

This is just my own opinion, and I could very well be wrong...

I think the major difference between Singles and the BDF is that the Singles Forum is more about getting to know each other as people, rather than displaying spiritual knowledge.

I'm not trying to say at all that the BDF is bad because of that -- I occasionally lurk there to follow a few favorite posters -- but from what I can see, most of what's exchanged there are Biblical philosophies and a mission to prove to everyone else that one is superior over the other. ("One ring to rule them all...")

I say "Biblical philosophies" because I personally (and again, this is just me,) do not believe that anyone can interpret God's Word 100% correctly, simply because we all have the filter of sin built into us from conception.

If you shine a pure beam of light through smudged glass, the light that comes through on the other side will never be as pure as the beam that entered it. (I realize I could be wrong, but this is just what I believe.)

When I go to the BDF, I'm looking for people who believe this way as well. I want to learn from people who know they might be getting something wrong, and are willing to state that -- but I don't see it there very often. (I'm not saying that the BDF isn't helpful at all -- I'm sure it's been very helpful for many people, as we are all different.)

Here in Singles, we get to know each other, whereas in the BDF, you get to know what participants believe and will defend to the death -- but never much about the actual people themselves.

I write most of my threads in a way that (I hope) encourages people to share about themselves. And when we get a group of regulars who know each other's likes and dislikes, triumphs and failures (you definitely don't see many people admitting to failure in the BDF,) families and histories, jokes, both good and bad...

Well... I think it becomes a lot harder to insult someone when you know all about their mee maw and stories from their childhood and the fact that they are vulnerable to certain things.

You come to see other posters as not just names and avatars, but as breathing, real-life human beings. You learn how to talk to, comfort, encourage, and joke around with them, and I think that at least cuts down SOME of the insults that might get slung around...

I've always thought that most BDF regulars don't hang out here because it can get uncomfortable to become familiar with the more human side of an "enemy" (someone who doesn't believe the exact same things as they do.) And, our topics and goals here (trying to build a community) might not interest most in the BDF, which is completely understandable. We're all built for different things.

Now of course, it certainly doesn't mean we don't get a few outliers, and we certainly get our share of arguments -- but I think it's easier to disagree in a respectful manner when you see someone as a friend. Here in Singles, I think we put in a lot of effort into showing all the ways in which we are well-rounded, fellow human beings, not just a belief that needs to be defended. I always say that the BDF is the sermon and Bible lesson of the day, and Singles is the Coffee, Donuts, And Fellowship Hour afterwards.

I have a thread idea I've been tossing around for well over a year, but it's a serious subject and I keep putting it off because I know it's going to attract a lot of people (outside our regular group) who just want to complain about the opposite gender.

I know the majority of regulars here in Singles aren't like that, praise God. I'm very thankful that even though the crowd is always changing, we always seem to attract some good-hearted people who stick around for at least a few more threads.

So even when I want to throw out more controversial topics, I'm much more hesitant to do so now (versus in the past,) just because I don't want to disrupt the "fellowship" vibe the regulars have been working so hard to build in Singles.

BDF is for people studying for Bible college and need help with their homework assignments.

Sometimes I help them, sometimes the essay questions are interesting and thought provoking, but I'm not doing their homework for them! Also sometimes I need help understanding passage and it does helps to get other peoples interpretations.

Its not a place to be scared of, but some people like to use it as a debating forum, which can be off-putting.

I played in 7th grade, and I started out sitting on the bench for similar reasons that you've detailed. I could only serve underhand, couldn't jump for nor spike the ball and I'm not at all athletic (during softball tryouts, I won the position of "statistician'). However, I'm very competitive and will give anything at least an old college try. For example, I've launched a 'whoopdy-doo' and landed well enough (I think my trick would be called, by the pros, a basic 'bunny hop') but I panicked about how to stop so I just jumped off of it and let a shrub stop the dirtbike, with the only injury occurring to the handlebar of the dirtbike with a clod of dirt and grass stuck into it.
Anyway, I started out second string on the volleyball team (my skills did not translate themselves very well in my training), until that one game we were so far behind that coach subbed (my bestie who got the starting spot)... and we came back and won the game... and I started every game after that, because no balls that came my way were going to touch the court, so the opponent had a harder time scoring with me out there (so my skills worked out well in practice after all). My teammates often inquired why I didn't go to tryouts in the subsequent years and part of it was because coach moved on to coaching at the college level and so I decided to move on with other interests also. I have too many interests to be able to take up in one lifetime but, again, I like to try to get to them all.

I consider the BDF to be the more "heavy reading" while such as the singles, and the family forum, is lighter (-hearted) reading. I've been meaning to make the rounds all the others but it's hard to keep us with touching on every topic.

It's a lot more intellectual/academic in BDF that's for sure.
We do have some very serious topics in Singles and Family too.

Lots of Christian Forums have many different categories even within Bible discussion, so it can get very specific. Some just call it a debate forum. I don't think anyone has the time to keep up with every single forum. Imagine if we were all just in ONE big forum with as many different topics under the sun - like how Reddit is organised. A nightmare. You will never get to the bottom of a Reddit page. Its endless, doom scrolling fun (not)

I get enough of a daily dose of doom whenever I open up my browser, no need to scroll for it.🤪 I wandered into the singles forum relating as a member of a collective of autonomous (and uniquely interesting) individuals, and not only the glory of the mister. 🫠

Everyone is different
Some are more different than others :D

I think Singles stay single cos they haven't met their match. It would also be weird to meet your doppelganger on here.

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to hearing what YOU have to say about courting (and non-courting) sports-- and who YOU plan to invite!! 😁
It's got to be on a soccer field with real grass. Years ago, I would have preferred a softball field.

You need to pick a team.

Don't look at me, I have no stamina to be racing round a grass field in the vain hopes of scoring a goal.
