So then do you agree that followers of Christ should follow his example of obedience to the Law of Moses?

In Exodus 20:6, God wanted His children to love Him and obey His commandments, so obedience to God has always been a matter of the heart. The letter has alway been a perversion of the Law of God that undermines its intent.
I believe the only way to obey is to walk in the Spirit. Otherwise, one is walking in the flesh and sinning.

One doesn't walk in the Spirit without Christ living in and through them.

So...we aren't really obeying the law of Moses; we are obeying Christ Himself. This is what those who put so much emphasis on the law never comprehend. Without Christ in you, you are without God and without hope. It is only as He lives in us that we find life and ever obey. It is only as He reveals more of Himself to us that our affections for Him are increased. It is always what God does that makes any difference.

Maybe one day you will stop playing at obedience, and will be set free to love God with all your heart. But you won't do that by doing your duty. You will do that when you simply enjoy Him. Duty brings compliance; love brings devotion. I hope you find your way past duty and to devotion.

Does it automatically happen or are we required to choose.

If I die to self and let the Spirit in, will I automatically be perfect? Will the Spirit force me to obey? Will the Spirit force my thinking? No

The Spirit will empower, direct and lead us but it will not force us to obey.

Is the Spirit given to the disobedient? No

Acts 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God has given to them that obey him.

It is given to those that Obey.

True faith and heart-service are inextricably linked to the reception of the Spirit, ensuring that the soul is purified and the character transformed into the divine likeness.

The Lord gives the Spirit to those who ask in faith and maintain a spirit of surrender to His authority

Luk 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Rom 8:13 For if you live after the flesh, you shall die: but if you through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live.

A combination of faith and obedience

God, The Spirit will not dwell with sin. Sin is disobedience.

There is a lot of accusations here and its sad that is being elevated over discussing Scriptures. You made the statement that Jesus is the New Covenant- all I asked for you to do provide the Scripture that backs up your claims. The Scripture clearly says that's not the case Heb8:10. Jesus is the Mediator of the New Covenant, He is our High Priest of the New Covenant, but He is not God's laws that was written in our heart in the New Covenant.
We are lucky to have Jesus as a mediator for us , if only people understood what that means, we see in the texts how incredibly gentle, forgiving and loving Jesus is. They do not know what they do, what they see is the rudeness, merciless hateful actions of the pharisees. they should read Matthew 23.

I'd push back on the idea that obedience and love are opposites, as if duty is somehow beneath devotion. It actually contradicts Scripture quite directly.

Just look at what happened when obedience was abandoned. Eve's choice in the garden wasn't a moment of liberation or deeper love. It was the fracture that brought sin, suffering, and death upon all of us. Obedience to God wasn't a cage. Its absence cost us everything.

And Jesus Himself didn't separate love from obedience. He said plainly:

"If you love me, keep my commandments." — John 14:15
"Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me." — John 14:21
"If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love." — John 15:10
Obedience isn't the opposite of love. It is love's natural expression. We don't obey God in spite of loving Him, we obey because we love Him. The two were never in competition to begin with.

You're right that cold, joyless duty alone is not the goal. But the answer isn't to move past obedience. It's to obey from the right place, a heart transformed by grace and filled with genuine love for God. That's not playing at obedience. That's exactly what sanctification looks like.

What you portray is not obedience to the Holy Spirit. You obey your own false interpretation of scripture (if you really obey the law, which I doubt) and then browbeat and insult others who are led by the Spirit of God.

Before that, Luther, Zwingli, Calvin, Knox, Bunyan, the Wesleys, Whitefield, Edwards and countless others preached the true gospel. They were imperfect men, but the gospel spread through them.
Wow ! Aren't YOU the Pharisee among False Prophets. ( my attempt at retaliatorial name calling )
:)
You are right ! The Truth did run through the classic Reformers, which is why we SDAs identify and model ourselves after the True Christians Protestant Reformers, pointing out the RCC as Anti-Christ to persuade God's People, to come out of her false doctrines (Mystery Babylon, the mother of harlots ~> ( Denominational "apostate" Protestant Reformation Churches ) believing and following the Antichrist, (rather than Jesus), to bring God's Chosen People to the Light of God's Word Jesus. Revelation 14:6-12 ( Read my signature again)

As I was reading your response, I thought of Jesus before the Pharisees, where they said, "He has a demon" ( your EGW comment ) Jesus' comment, "Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?" Matt 23:33

"Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, ..."
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones to death those who have been sent to her! Matthew 23:34, 37

I have no doubt that you pharisaical false prophets would "gnash your teeth" and want to stone me, if I were amongst a group of you.

Anyway ! On to expose your deceptions Gideon. ( Thank goodness for AI Tools todo the research of many hours, in a few minutes)

In his Large Catechism (1529), Luther devoted extensive sections to each of the Ten Commandments. He wrote: "The Ten Commandments stand as an eternal standard... they are not to be despised or set aside."

Luther distinguished between: Justification (being made right with God) - by faith alone, not works Sanctification (living as a Christian) - obedience flows from faith. ( @Dino246 )

He famously stated that good works are "necessary" but not for salvation—they're necessary because of salvation.

In his Freedom of a Christian (1520), he wrote: "A Christian is a perfectly free lord of all, subject to none. A Christian is a perfectly dutiful servant of all, subject to all." This captures his paradox: free from the Law for salvation, yet bound to the Law for love of neighbor.

John Calvin provided the most systematic treatment in his Institutes of the Christian Religion (Book II, Chapters 7-8).
Three Uses of the Law: To reveal sin and drive us to Christ, To restrain evil in society, To guide believers in grateful obedience.

Calvin wrote in the Institutes: "The law is not a means of salvation, but it is the rule of a holy life which God requires of those whom he has already justified." He was explicit that the moral law (Ten Commandments) remains binding: "The Lord, by his law, prescribes to us a rule of life, which we ought to follow."

Calvin strongly opposed antinomianism (the idea that Christians are free from moral law). He wrote:"We do not say that the law is abolished, but that its curse is removed."

Huldry Zwingli's position was similar, though less systematically developed than Calvin's. In his Commentary on True and False Religion (1525), he wrote: "The moral law remains in force for Christians... We are not under the law for justification, but we are under the law for guidance." In his sermons on the Ten Commandments, Zwingli emphasized: "Faith without works is dead... True faith produces obedience to God's commands."

Key Quote Summary

Luther: "We do not abolish the law but establish it" (Romans 3:31)
Calvin: "The law is the rule of a holy life which God requires of those whom he has already justified"
Zwingli: "True faith produces obedience to God's commands"

Conclusion

None of the Reformers taught that obedience to the Ten Commandments was unnecessary. Rather, they taught:
  1. Obedience does not SAVE you (salvation is by grace through faith alone)
  2. Obedience EXPECTS you (true faith produces fruit)
  3. The Commandments GUIDE you (they reveal God's will for Christian living)
This is sometimes called the "third use of the law"—the Law as a guide for grateful believers.

My motive to keep the law is love.

Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Not duty.

If you look at the law and each commandment they can be a burden to the flesh because the flesh is selfish.
But to the Spirit it is a delight.

It reflects the character of Jesus. It is holy, and just, and good.
Rom 7:12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

Yes, all the Reformers ( True Obedient to God Christians ) taught that obedience to the Ten Commandments is NOT necessary FOR salvation—but they emphatically taught that obedience IS necessary AS a result OF salvation

I continually teach that we are NOT saved by keeping the Law, (works), but keep the law because of our salvation and having Christ, His Holy Spirit, (of obedience) dwelling IN US, by Faith. Gal 2:20

Yes, all the Reformers ( True Obedient to God Christians ) taught that obedience to the Ten Commandments is NOT necessary FOR salvation—but they emphatically taught that obedience IS necessary AS a result OF salvation.

I continually teach that "we are NOT saved by keeping of the law, but keep the LAW BECAUSE OF our salvation in Christ. John 14:15
Which has always been my point to obedience to God's Will, as it was and IS for Jesus. My Salvational Faith in The Faith of Jesus and His Righteousness, evidenced by my adherence to God's Ten Commandments, particularly by communing and worshiping God on His Holy 7th Day Sabbath is evidence of Christ and His Righteousness ( His Faith in the His Father, being obedience to the Will of the Father ) IN ME !!

You False Christians, eg. Dispensationalists, keep saying that you don't have to be obedient to God, because Jesus was obedient, therefore you don't have to be obedient, being saved by God's Grace alone. ( so that you can continue in your SIN, eg. pagan Sunday worship) oblivious to your believing Satan's Lie # 1 ~ "You surely won't die", having his spirit of rebellion to the Father's Will and being a False Witness to Christ = a False Prophet.

A True Witness to Christ, a "Christian" would exhibit the Righteousness of Christ ( Obedience to The Father's Will~> Rev 14:12 ) that Jesus exhibited to be our savior, the Lamb of God. We are called tobe His disciples , followers, believers, uplifting Christ and His Rightiousness, to the World, giving evidence by our Spirit of Love for God and our neighbors ( eg. as I'm doing here in the forum, by bring you the Truth ).
Showing evidence by our Christian Faith OF Jesus, (Gal 2:20) by our being obedient to all that He & the Father have commanded.

Matthew 28:19-20 " Go you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatever I have commanded you: and, see, I am with you always, even to the end of the world. Amen. I LOVE that last part, where Jesus PROMISES to dwell in us, His Spirit and His Righteousness, (His Obedience). PTL

I'm trying to teach you Gideon, by the Word of God, Jesus, that if YOU do not have the His Holy Spirit indwelling in you, evidenced by the Righteousness of Christ, exhibited thru you, His obedience to God, that YOU are not a Christian.

John 14:15 – "If you love me, you will keep my commandments."

Luke 6:46 "Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I say?"

John 5:19 – "So Jesus replied, 'Truly, truly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing by Himself, unless He sees the Father doing it. For whatever the Father does, the Son also does.'"

John 4:34 – "Jesus said to them, 'My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work.'"
( His work of teaching Love to mankind (Luke 10:27, ETC) bringing them back into obedience to the Father and paying the price to redeem us from the penalty of that disobedience = death ) <~~ This IS The Everlasting Gospel

John 6:38 – "For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me." ( Jesus DID NOT SIN, for "Sin is Transgression of the LAW" (1 John 3:4) ... particularly the Ten Commandments, ( eg, He kept His Fathers Sabbath, NOT Sunday )

1 John 4:13 – “By this we know that we remain in Him, and He in us: He has given us of His Spirit"

Romans 8:9 – “But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.”

1 Corinthians 6:19–20 – “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

John 14:17 – “The Spirit of truth… He dwells with you and will be in you.”

Calling yourself a christian and preaching the spirit of anti-Christ ( pride & disobedience, ie the spirit of Satan ) here in this forum, makes you a False Prophet. ( <~~ one who teaches the spirit of disobedience to the Father ) As in;
Revelation 16:13
"And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon (Satan), and out of the mouth of the beast (The RCC) and out of the mouth of the false prophet (You)."

For the good of your soul Gideon, "come out of Babylon", (false doctrines eg. dispensationalism) and "Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. Rev.14:7

The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact likeness of His character (Hebrews 1:3), which he embodied through his works by setting a sinless example for us to follow of how to walk in in the Spirit/how to walk in obedience to the Law of Moses. The purposes of the Law of Moses is to teach us how to embody God's character traits/teach us how to live with Christ living in us/teach us how to bear the fruits of the Spirit. The problem is that someone can go through the motions of obeying the Law of Moses while neglecting to embody the character traits of God that it was given in order to teach us how to embody, such as with Matthew 23:23 where Jesus said that tithing is something that they ought to be doing while not neglecting weightier matters of the Law of Moses of justice, mercy, and faithfulness, and this is what it means to follow the letter and why the letter leads to death rather than bearing the fruits of the Spirit, which leads to life.

The way to love God is by embodying His character traits, so the way to love justice is by being a doe of justice, the way to love holiness is by being a doer of God's instructions for how to be holy as He is holy, and so forth. In other words, the goal of everything that God has instructed is to teach us how to embody/love different aspects of His character traits, which is why the Bible repeatedly states in both the OT and the NT that the way to love God is by obeying His commandments. The greatest two commandments are to love God and our neighbor, so love is a duty and it also brings devotion.

Aren't all Christians indwelt by the Spirit? Does He leave you when you sin?

Again, fine platitudes, but who is more responsible for you walking in the Spirit? You? Or the God at work in your?

Can you tell me how to obey the command to do all to the glory of God in the drinking of a glass of orange juice?

You don't believe devotion is a higher form of obedience than duty?

Cold, joyless duty is an abomination to God. Read Isaiah 1. God does not accept it. It is merely drawing nigh with one's lips while the heart is far from Him.

They do not know what they do, what they see is the rudeness, merciless hateful actions of the pharisees. they should read Matthew 23.
Yes, Jesus is our Mediator and High Priest. The Old Testament taught us what the earthy priest would do with sins in the sanctuary and this pattern or copy shows us what Jesus does as our High Priest in His heavenly temple. The earthy temple was a pattern or blueprint to our salvation. Psa77:13 Without understanding this pattern, people will not understand what Jesus is doing on our behalf every time we pray for forgiveness of our sins. If they would allow the God of the Bible to define what sin is and only serve Him Isa56:6 we would not have this division, but one day, God promises there will be unity Isa66:22-23

Without understanding the Old Testament the New Testament is impossible to understand especially Paul. Paul speaks of the "works of the law" and people gravely mistake that for obedience to what God asks if we love Him. Paul is quoting OT because that is what they had for Scripture and followed. The "works of the law" has always been the sacrificial system for forgiveness of sin- bringing an animal to an earthy priest for sins, and it was flawed because the blood of animals can never take away sin, these "works of the law" always pointed to Jesus who can take away our sins. Heb10:1-15 but sin is still breaking the law of God, that He did not leave up to man to write- He wrote them personally Exo31:18 He numbered them Deut4:13 He said "Remember" on the one commandment He knew everyone would try to forget, this unit of Ten that He said no adding to Deut4:2 Ecc3:14 because who can edit God. is what His blood atones for, why the Ten Commandments is under His mercy Exo25:21 seat and in heaven Rev11:18 -because the earthy temple is a copy of heaven Heb8:1-5 Heb9:23-24 and His final atonement has not happened yet! Why we are separated from God. Sadly when we as humans pluck out one of His commandments or edit them to suit our lifestyle, it doesn't change the law of God that God wrote, it removes His righteousness on what He covers for us. Its a grave mistake and people underestimate the spiritual war going on how the devil is trying to do nothing but take as many people down with him. If people who stop placing anyone else above Jesus who is God and He is the I AM speaking in the OT John8:58 - Jesus is God made flesh and He by His own teachings tells us everything we need to know- live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God - quoting OT Mat4:4 so don't put Paul His servant as His corrector- Paul didn't. Follow Jesus! He leads us only on the narrow path back to reconciliation Rev14:12 Rev22:14KJV

For example, love is an attribute of God, love is one of the fruits of the Spirit, and everything in the Law of Moses is in regard to how to love God and our neighbor, so that is the way to embody love. Not sure what drinking a glass of orange juice has to do with what I've said but we can give thanks to God through what we drink.

I think the grave mistake people make is trying to define love as a feeling, something arbitrary that is dependent of each individual.

God said there are not any greater commandments than to love God with all our heart, mind and soul and love our neighbor. People take this as personal devotion and feelings.

Mat 22:27 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

But Jesus was quoting OT Deut6:5 Lev 19:18

So they are grounded in OT principles, not new ones.

When it comes to loving someone, is it based on what we feel on how we are to love someone or should it be based on what that person tells us is how to love them. In the case of God, He only taught loving Him with the accordance of keeping His commandments. So how can we love God with all our heart, soul and mind but not keep His commandments. The answer is plainly you can't. So to separate the greatest commandments to love God with our all, from the commandments where God tells us how to love Him, is sadly a very deceitful doctrine.

The first time God introduces this principle of how we are to love Him is right in the Testimony of God - written by God, spoken by God. God literally tells us how to love Him so its impossible to separate the greatest commandments from the commandments on how God tells us to love Him.

Exo 20:6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

If we look at the first time loving God with all our heart, mind and soul was stated, what was happening when this was stated.

The Ten Commandments right where love to God was written down by God Himself was repeated- 40 years after God have them His commandments both spoken by God and written by God.

After they were repeated this was stated...

Deut 6:1 “Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, 2 that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. 3 Therefore hear, O Israel, and [a]be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’

4 “Hear, O Israel: [b]The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Keep God's commands in your heart
Teach them to your children
Talk about them daily
Let His Word guide your life constantly

And it includes the 4th commandment, because the greatest commandments to love God with all their heart, mind and soul was the condition of the Israelites receiving their inheritance:

Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, 2 that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. 3 Therefore hear, O Israel, and [a]be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’

But what happened, did they love God with all their heart, mind and soul and received their inheritance?

Sadly many did not because....

Eze 20:15 So I also raised My hand in an oath to them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, ‘flowing with milk and honey,’ the glory of all lands, 16 because they despised My judgments and did not walk in My statutes, but profaned My Sabbaths; for their heart went after their idols.

The Sabbath is part of the greatest commandments to love God with all our heart, mind and soul. Profaning the Sabbath God relates to breaking another commandment- idol worship because we are replacing the words of God with another voice.

The devil is trying to take away our inheritance as well that we have not yet entered Rev22:13KJV

Will we listen to the same voices that deceived those in the wilderness we are told not to follow in their example of disobedience Heb4:11 or will we join ourselves to the LORD Isa 56:6 and stay faithful to Him not forgetting something He asked us to Remember. Exo20:8-11 and keep if we love Him Exo20:6 both written and spoken by God. God tells us how to love Him- will we beleive Him is the bigger question.

For example, love is an attribute of God, love is one of the fruits of the Spirit, and everything in the Law of Moses is in regard to how to love God and our neighbor, so that is the way to embody love.
Your reasoning is flawed. Firstly, you assume (obviously without doing your homework) that the law is all about loving God and neighbour. Secondly, you seem to think that every nuance of loving God and neighbour is included in the law.

I suspect you haven't read through the Torah lately (if ever), and have a very narrow and rigid idea of "love".

I'd push back on the idea that obedience and love are opposites, as if duty is somehow beneath devotion. It actually contradicts Scripture quite directly.
Every time in Scripture God tells us to love Him, it is always connected to obedience to His commandments. We can't separate the two according to God. People want to love God, but on their terms, not God's Exo20:6 John14:15 they want to serve God, on their terms not God's Isa56:6, they want all His blessings, on their terms not God's Isa56:2. This is the same issue that has been repeated over and over again in Scriptures.

Ok, show where loving God is separated from obedience to His commandments by Scripture, not your words. What did God say in His own words how do we love Him? Do we tell God how we love Him or does He tell us? Is doing what we want to love someone the same as doing what they ask?

Not sure what drinking a glass of orange juice has to do with what I've said but we can give thanks to God through what we drink.
All of y'all who promote the law can't even tell someone how to keep it. That's what the question I asked reveals.

And again, it is the indwelling Spirit who embodies love in an individual. This has nothing to do with the individual other than God's love will be manifested through them. Read Romans 5:5...it is THE LOVE OF GOD that is shed abroad in one's heart. The source of the love is God. The action is performed by God. It is manifested through the individual.
