TAKING TIME FOR ENJOYMENT
God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. —GENESIS 1:31 God not only worked and created things, but He also looked them over and said they were good. He took time to enjoy the work He had done. Do you do that? Do you just work and work, but never take the time to stop and enjoy what your labor has produced? Jesus said that He came that we might have and enjoy life in abundance (John 10:10), but in order to enjoy life, we have to take time to do so. Most people today are busy, busy, busy—rushing here and there, but not really taking time to enjoy the wonderful life God has given them. God worked for six days. On the seventh day, He rested from all of His labors (Genesis 2:2). We should also have a day of rest, not as a law we follow, but as a freedom God has given us. Rest is a gift from God, and it is necessary if we want to live long and healthy lives. Work is good, but we can turn a good thing into a bad thing if we do it excessively. I encourage you to schedule rest into your calendar just as you schedule other important responsibilities and activities, and take time to enjoy God, your family, and your life.
“Father, I want to live a well-balanced life, and I need Your wisdom to do it. Show me what changes I need to make in my life in order to enjoy regular periods of rest and quiet. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
