Before we renamed it Veterans day we used to call it Armistice day. Armistice Day because on November 11th at 11 a.m. the armistice went into effect ending the fighting in WW1.
That Vietnam vet served his wife divorce papers while she was in the hospital with cancer. Talk about disrespect...
The only factual thing in what was said is that he was a liberated POW.
Now I would like to know how you got the idea that what he did for our country is dismissed as not being a war hero.

You can respect someone's service and also not respect an individual's character. If the one should be lauded, then the other should also be criticized.
He served his country. He wasn't a nice guy. Both are true.
Well, regardless of being a nice guy or not, it doesn’t interfere with the fact that he was both a POW and a war hero.
So honor him for his service. But if you don't believe he should be called out for his faults, then stop calling out others for their faults. And start saying nice things about others.

That veteran gave secrets to the enemy when their captive that led to the outright death of countless American soldiers,or to their MIA and or POW status.
It isn't speaking ill of the dead. It is speaking of the actual legacy John made for himself.
And as a free man and Senator long years later,he still sought to betray our country and also by sabotaging our Republican presidential candidate.

Our President loves Veterans, and I believe most Vets like him. In my case, you could probably say I was a draft dodger because I was number 4 on the draft lottery in 1970, so that meant sometime in Jan 1971 I would have been drafted. In order to avoid that, I joined the Air Force, as I did not have any desire to go to Vietnam. Peace to you.

McCain is old news. Hegseth is an actual living war hero. The same people that pupu about Trump and McCain's old guys'' country club feud are the same people that been attacking Hegseth even before he was confirmed and frankly they're even more vicious and petty towards my valiant Hegseth about it. I would not take their breathless pearl clutching about McCain with any degree of seriousness.
In terms of the article itself saying Veteran's Day was originally about WW1 I can see Trump's idea, but I would agree to a degree with the OP and say it be smarter to just leave Veteran's Day as is. I notice nobody really objects to Trump's second idea of adding a new Victory Day holiday basically a commemoration of VE Day which is common in other coutnries so it's not actually a crazy idea really or so far removed from the realm of feasibility. Lol one would actually kinda think for the generations that talk so much about Hitler that basically making the day the America ensured Hitler's ultimate defeat into a national holiday would have broad consensus. Though I suppose one could oppose this altogether in good faith on the grounds that we're being too militaristic and jingoistic as a culture and obsessing too on the past from before the time the bulk of our generations were even born. Then again most people are apathetic about such things no matter which way you cut it, a new free day off holiday will probably be well received whatever meaning you wish to try to imbue behind it.
