Are they going to strengthen our Economy, or weaken it?

Are they going to drive up the cost of pretty much everything?

IMO, they are going to end up hurting the average person. Especially low income people/families. There is no way the Manufacturers are going to "eat the rising cost" of producing their product(s). They are going to do what they always do, PASS IT ON!

Honestly, I do not understand Trumps thinking on this. Tariffs never help in the way those imposing them want. Buckle up and start cutting Coupons now..... sigh ...........
Not sure you understand how this works but I’ll try.

When I buy 10 things from you and you buy 1 thing from me it means that we have a trade imbalance.
This is caused by you having high tariffs on 9 of my products so you can sell more products in my country.
Makes sense? Or no, you don’t like it? :)

It is also caused by Americans wanting cheaper or specialized products, instead of domestic-made products. Not a trade expert, but countries are allowed to apply tariffs on each other under certain scenarios to prevent unfair trade, according to WTO laws. For instance, if the U.S. government is subsidizing the farmers or auto industry which enables them to sell products at lower prices abroad, the EU and other countries can apply tariffs on our food products and cars (and same vice versa). Or, if the Chinese are selling a product like plastic at not just a low price, but an illegally low price (based on WTO laws), even without subsidies, we can apply tariffs on them. These types of tariffs are generally accepted, and doesn't cause wars.

the dow started off the day over 500 points down. after it was announced that the gov. shut down would not be happening, those losses were erased, and the dow ended the day up over 600 points.

so, over an a 1100 point turnaround in about half a day, after it was learned that the gov would stay up and running.

so, was it just the tariffs that caused the downturn??

No. IMO, it is the uncertainty of what Trump will do. The Tariffs won't have an immediate effect upon the people. There is a delayed reaction involved. The first to feel the effects will be those who purchase foreign goods to produce their products. But even that won't happen immediately in most cases because the majority of Manufacturers and such have a certain supply of products already in stock. The effect will come when they have to purchase more goods from their Foreign suppliers. Then, the adjusted cost will flow down to the American consumer.

The Stock Market reacts to so very many different things, that it is rare ONE thing can be blamed. There are exceptions of course....the most obvious would be a Declaration of War ny us on some Country. A huge National Event like 9/11, or some such...

I'm like Tourist. I just do not understand what Trump is thinking with these Tariffs...

Those who voted for him need not feel bad. They really only had two choices: Vote for Trump, or not vote at all! I chose the latter. Did vote the bottom of the Ticket, Senate/House, State and Local races, etc.....

Well, the tariffs go directly into the US Treasury, like income taxes do. One of the first things Muskrat did was take over the Treasury Dept. So there's that. Not hard to figure out what the endgame is.

Well, start getting after the countries that put tariffs on us that are completely out of line.

If you understood this......You would understand what President Trump is doing......He will win.
Which tariffs would those be?
The ones that are completely out of line.

Seriously? This is what happens when everyone stays home and no one goes to the office, they get infested with mice, pigeons, owls, and apparently even muskrats! Good thing we have DOGE.

The USA used to export lots of high quality groceries around the world.

The USA agricultural products were once considered the cleanest, safest, and best. Kinda like those organic food consumers.
Now with Tariffs in EVERY nation but america....not true anymore. USDA inspected food is considered super expensive and no different from local. (I smell a rat)

Agricultural products are a renewable resource....and can increase GDP and trade imbalances.

What are you talking about? The elites need to stock their bunkers, and not just for themselves. They need bodyguards, and an army. Do you have any idea how crazy it will be out there during the Purge? You can't expect some billionaires son to fend off the hoards. So you can't expect them to pay for all the food they need, no, these recalls are helping them stock the bunkers. The Lord prophesied about this, how they would hide in holes in the ground.

I can’t say for sure, but it seems like someone is using the GOP for their own benefit. It doesn’t look good. Who can tell what will happen between now and the midterms.

Has anyone seen the TV Commercial Trumps people are running? The one aimed at children? It touts itself as being an easy way to teach children how Trump will make America great again. It is designed like a Comic Book. (uh, er, isn't this indoctrination?) :)

You know, I'm pretty sure that the first time Trump ran for President and won, he promised he was going to make America "great again." Hmm............. :)

Yes, the Kid's Guide to President Trump. It's in comic book form and it's absolutely propaganda. The people who claim to be so against the indoctrination of children are indoctrinating children into their cult. This is disgusting. There are also other titles in this series. It's actually published by a company run by Mike Huckabee and he does advertisements for it, trying to get people to order a "bundle."

Kash Patel also wrote a kids book, The Plot Against the King. The king of course being the Donald.

I don't know what it will take for people to wake up see this as the cult of personality that it is. They believe every lie the Donald throws their way and come back for more. It's just unfortunate that the cult leader happens to be president.

I have a question for you

Here is a list of books that Mom's For Liberty has identified in school libraries, pushed by the DOE and are propaganda for DEI, CRT, LGBTQ, etc.

https://go.boarddocs.com/fl/ircs/Bo...file/Challenged Book List Recommendations.pdf

There are more than 150 books.

It has been shocking to me how difficult it has been to get books that are blatantly pornographic or that completely distort US history, books that are clearly propaganda, removed from the school libraries. When I homeschooled my kids they each read over 600 books. I had to document these and keep the government informed of the curriculum. I had no problem finding excellent books on US history and other topics without CRT, DEI, LGBTQ, propaganda. Now in public high schools it is difficult to find children who have read five books by the time they graduate and yet school boards have fought tooth and nail not to remove these books that are clearly propaganda. Mom's for liberty was not advocating to burn these books or have them censored, their only argument was to get them out of school libraries, often out of elementary school libraries.

So my question to you is what are you advocating for? You want these books censored? Isn't that tyrannical? Are you saying these books are currently in school libraries? I doubt that. Are you saying parents should not be allowed to buy books that you don't approve of? Wouldn't that be a violation of the first amendment? Personally I am stunned at the hypocrisy and chutzpah of the left. To fight tooth and nail to keep filthy pornography in elementary school libraries but then to be offended by some other book that is not in a school library. The same people who thought force feeding children pornography and twisted historical books designed to deceive was their constitutional right and that the purpose of public schools was to push this indoctrination are now offended that there is a children's book about Trump, a book that is not force fed to kids but rather something parents would have to purchase themselves!

You are a hypocrite

"The people who claim to be so against the indoctrination of children are indoctrinating children into their cult"

Apples and oranges. I am a member of Mom's for Liberty. I ran for school board and clearly articulated the concern over books in the school library that should be curated.

We (M4L) were very clear, we are not for censorship. No one was arguing to have books banned, or burned or censored. No one was saying that parents should not be allowed to buy any of these books. What we were saying is that pornography and distorted books pretending to be US history but were designed to deceive and indoctrinate should be removed from the school library.

Anyone who had an issue with M4L and their concern over books in the school library but now is vocal about these books on Trump, is in my opinion a hypocrite. Are these books in the school libraries? No. So what are you saying, you want to be able to tell parents what they can and cannot teach their children! What a hypocrite. M4L never once said such a thing. We did not dare to tell parents what they could or could not teach their children. We knew there are LGBTQ parents who might want to teach their children those pornographic books, we knew there were others who might want to teach their children CRT or DEI. That was fine. What we were against was the school system taking blatant propaganda and using it to indoctrinate elementary and JHS kids.

But look at how hypocritical these people are who claimed to be for free speech now advocating censorship and telling parents what they can and cannot teach their children.
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Before trying to help others who are in a cult why not check your own issues with this behavior.

Usually the case.
I should have posted "triggered people" by all the reactions.
Perhaps a mix of both.

I appreciate your honesty, most people just hunker down in the 'Trump is saving us mentality' and refuse to be objective, rational at all.

I am a Republican but I'm begging to believe that Trump it out to destroy us. The single best thing that Trump could do immediately is to fire Musk.

Hey Tourist, I haven’t been following much politics or news, other than here on the site and very seldomly. Do you mind sharing why you think Musk should be fired? I’m kinda interested into knowing why.

I don’t plan to try and change your opinion or anything; I just want to hear you out and see if it’s something I internally agree or disagree with, based on the limited information that I have.

There is no possible way that will happen, at least not until after the rapture. The Beast system is rising out of the sea, it will obliterate all other empires including the US and Elon Musk is certainly at the very forefront of that industry. Starlink and his robots are so critical to the US that they are happy to fire tens of thousands of federal workers to make room for him. But nice to see that you are waking up.
