Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters
Because the people who ride into battle with you, who share a foxhole, who share their joys and their sorrows, these people are going to be there when life is both good and bad. They are willing to stay through thick and thin because they have had to make the hard choices and they understand that stuff is just stuff. They know that this life is so brief yet they do not choose to find the easiest road or the most well traveled instead they look beyond themselves to discover that there is more to life than making it safely into the grave.
My target audience is the volvo. Because I want them to know that there is more to it than simply not being alone.
Once a person aims for else than comfort and safety. Once a person tastes the thrill of a hard fought victory and the bitter taste of defeat, they can't go back to not knowing what it feels like.
I more or less see what you are saying. It doesn't necessarily have to be a physical journey, but the willingness to go shows a unity in purpose and mutual devotion. That is something the Volvo audience needs to hear.
It a love is not authentic, it isn't worth having.
Personally, I am no soldier, but speaking metaphorically, I have slogged it out in the trenches with 400 volunteers working on my candidate's behalf week after week about 2000 miles away from my house. Outmanned, we still prospered in our region in a stand that would rival that of El Sordo's.
What I desired during my many sleepless nights and conference call smack-downs was simply someone to go home or at least write home to. As much as I would appreciate a lady to take on my burden with me, it's my Crusade. All I want is someone I can simply connect with on a deep level when I pick up the phone for five minutes. Someone I know that shares enough in common to not only watch the same dumb dvd 6,000 times with, but also raise children with. If she can at least understand, endorse, encourage, and love me for who I am the whole way through, I can let her spare me.
There is something to be said for a quaint homefront. When I returned from my adventure, I found a family more loving and united than I had seen them before, and a house of memories and love that I will appreciate to the end of my days. I want this no matter what I do.
Some people are adrenaline junkies who are in it for the adventure and drop you when they get the chance. I think my ex was one of them (I'm hopefully not being unfair in that statement). Others are in it for the easy ride at home. What matters is finding that connection and metaphysical unity of purpose.
This we both can agree on.
And to be honest, I really take no issue with what you say at all. I even admire the constant drive for adventure to a certain extent. We're just two different romantic archetypes you and I, who have our own romantic visions. You the explorer and I the crusader, probably Unicorn Hunter subtypes who never really agree on the particulars.
I guess my point is that most people will end up taking their Volvo's while you and I raise our swords in the air shouting "Victory or Death" (albeit my terms are a bit more conservative) but isn't that what makes us special?
Truly, Liamson, I don't know why I'm posting this. It isn't my intention to rag on you, nor do I want to be the Unicorn Hunter's promethean bearer of light. I guess I was slightly annoyed with the whole adventurer motif you have brought to the table, realizing it to be an untenable objective standard though something to be admired. This is my attempt to resolve a cognitive dissonance, by boiling our points of view down to a line of commonality, then recognizing the subjectivity so our forum friends can see the difference.
That's my guess anyway.
