First of all...

I was more so thinking of this guy
zachary-quinto-spock-433873717.jpg

who plays the YOUNG Spock
zQuintoSpock2.jpg

which I thought I specified but maybe not...

And actually on the subject, I believe that we MAKE happiness. It doesn't just fall into our laps, it's not in the form of a person or an ideal, it's our choices from day to day that determine our happiness. How we choose to act, react and treat those whom we love, plays a vital role in said happiness. And God's best doesn't always mean what's only best for you. It can sometimes mean what's best for all involved and what will be most effective for His kingdom. Though, He loves you very much and since relationship (with Him) is the whole reason we're here, it makes sense that He would want it to be good between us as well. ^_^

I often don't post because I could really go on for days with all sorts of theories, stories and scripture but so as not to bore everyone, I stick with my Spock pictures. Ow ow! :P

Sadly I have a better chance with him than you do Catlynn

I do not like putting all people into a text book style "all people fit these three things." Most of the time you look at those books and think, has this person ever actually walked out his front door and traveled around?

Anyhow, despite the actually meanings, when I saw the title my first thought was, Oh I definitely want to date someone who hunts unicorns for a living!!! *swoon*

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

We're all so different. Our lives are different. Our needs are different. Our ways are different. Our gifts are different. Our purposes are different. Our callings are different.

I've learned that it is selfish and unkind to test drive Volvos when I know that my life requires more horsepower than that. Mustangs are not all that hard to find. Not saying there's anything wrong with Volvos. Just not a good fit for everyone.

I kinda like a sturdy CHARGER... but OVER THE LONG TERM... I want strong, reliable, easy maintenance and all-terrain capabilities... cuz when it comes down to where the rubber meets the road... there are reasonable expectations to be fulfilled... and more horsepower won't necessarily get the job done.;)

15 years of marriage to an incredibly godly man taught me amazing things about what it takes to go the long haul. How long have you been married?

Before I continue, may I just state that some girls actually find boxy rust-colored Volvo's to be their dream car?? And I am talking about me, and I am not joking :P

So anywhoo... I think most girls are taught by the females in their respective lives that one MUST be a Unicorn Hunter, or else how will you find the perfect man? I still don't understand why people think that there is only one person out there for each of us. I think that is why people are so unicorn-crazy! Perfect-Mr.-Man is out there! I know it! I can't date this one or that one because what if Mr. Perfect comes along in the meantime???!?!?! Or People just decide to abandon a relationship because people are not taught to work at something to make it better. It makes me sad. Both women and men are avid unicorn seekers might I add. ;)

Train-wreck rubberneckers are not being given a lot of debate here it seems. Many ladies like a fixer-upper. Again, they are taught that if he isn't a unicorn, MAKE HIM ONE! Instead of appreciating the differences in each other, we seem to enjoy pressing others into unattainable molds of unicorny perfection. You can't change someone, so I say train wreckers are just unicorn hunters out for a challenge.

And the Volvo "settlers"... WHAT IS WRONG WITH VOLVOS, and why is it settling to be with one?? :D I would hope I wouldn't be someone that someone settled for. How horrific to think about oneself in that way!! I will not be settled for. I will be loved as God loved the Church! :)

That is all. :D

Ahhh.. Perfection... ;)

I would welcome that Volvo, ole zere would make it clear, the turbo-ulent car aficionado he is, but thatza about 1984 , and since 25 years is considered a classic, that is, with years to burn, and, in said 'orange seats' condition , I bet one could see it at Barrett's fetching $30,000 , so, think about it but IF that car is you're thinking of 'oldie but a goodie,' it's really making you looking a lot more like a unicorn preferer

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

Why would anyone settle? Honestly..why would you marry someone you're just ok with? Fear of being alone? All your peers are married with kids? Desperation? I would really truly hate for someone to think they settled with me, and I have zero desire to do that to someone else.

No one does themselves any favors by cutting corners when it comes to a spouse.

I don't hunt for things that aren't real, and I've no interest in watching trainwrecks, but I wouldn't tie myself to someone for life just because we got along well, or our relationship was just functional enough that it isn't dysfunctional.

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

Relationships that last a lifetime are not about unicorns or visions in bubbles. They are about peeling back the layers of a man/woman and discovering whether they are capable of loving you when it isn't easy or convenient for them, not throwing in the towel when things don't quite go their way, and vice versa. They are about knowing that when a sick child has kept you both up all night praying for them, when you both get a little grumpy from overwork, when difficult financial times come, when your relationship is attacked by those who would love to see it fail, or when they look up at you from their deathbed, they know and you know that it was worth every drop of blood, sweat and tears to have shared your heart, laughter and core of your being with them.

They are worth holding out for.

I think its important that we do not settle for someone who is JUST a BREADWINNER.

Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life. Pro 4:23

You MATTER, your heart MATTERS. Who you choose to love and give yourself to MATTERS. Websites like Match dot com pride themselves on being able to pawn you off on someone. They want you to feel like happiness is just a relationship away. Happiness is either something you have or you don't, its a choice, and relationship is not going to MAKE you happy.

The fairytale is to expect that where it hurts can be filled by someone. Whether its to make someone else jealous by looking like you are happy with someone or its to arbitrarily give yourself away because its better than being alone, its a lie.

There is a love language thread going around and its made me realize something. What is a Volvo to one person, is a Unicorn to another. Some people don't care if someone doesn't spend time with them, as long as occassionally they show them somehow that they care.

My mother married a guy that I didn't really like. He didn't act like he cared about her, to me. He just did stuff here and there around her yard. He Built a fence, raised a garden, bought her a car and roses occasionally. She loves him and they snuggle sometimes but, he's a short bald redneck contractor who drinks and cusses and goes to church cause my mother makes him. But its what she wanted, even if I don't understand it.

Your choices are your own and you can do with them as you want to live the life that you want.

Gasp, you like Sylar? Say it ain't so.

I'm sticking with my fellow dreamers here, Still. We cannot realistically expect a protracted story-book style romance. What we can expect is real romance.

I know it exists. I know what it is like to fall in love. I really don't think that state is impossible to achieve with the other party feeling the same and willing to share a life with you.

Is it easy? No. But I've seen the short-sighted Volvo's regretting their decisions later in life and doing things that would be tantamount to scandal because they didn't marry the person they love. Someone I hold very dearly is the product of a Volvo marriage, and he suffered for it. I vow never to face something like that.

The problem is, unicorns don't exist, but champion horses do. (Anyone care for a Sea Biscuit.)

They are worth holding out for.
Please take note that this statement is not about placing someone in a 'category'...

Rather, it is looking at the person as an individual with a multitude of characteristics which all stem from the 'core' person that they are deep within.

It is a "departure" from trying to generalize people to the point of confounding those individual characteristics of the person - as if each characteristic belonged in a certain definite 'category' that could be looked at and judged as "good", "bad", "better", "worse", etc.

While it cannot be disputed that certain particular individual characteristics are most definitely "good", "bad", "better", "worse", etc. (especially, as compared to the Biblical standard) -- in general, the nature of the combination of the individual characteristics actually define the "attractiveness" of the person as a suitable life-long mate.

Indeed, what some might consider a "volvo" - others will consider a "mustang" -- it depends on what is important to the one who is doing the "looking"...

In short, the more closely your "world-view" - complete with the priorities-of-life and all of the other vitally-important-details that come with it - is aligned with their "world-view" -- the more likely the both of you will be willing to "stick it out" together - standing on the "common ground" and having the "common understanding" that the two of you share.

Human beings are each a complex mixture of individual characteristics and traits. Therefore, it will be a complex thing at best for us to find a suitable life-long mate.

Some will be willing to "hold out" for seventy years out of a life-expectancy of seventy-five years to make sure that they live the "best possible" [five years] with the "best possible" mate. Others will be willing to "settle" for more years of "shared contentment" with a "perfectly-suitable-if-not-absolutely-perfect" mate (who they may very well discover later was 'the perfect mate' because they were "compatible enough" to make the time shared "as good as any that could be expected in a lifetime").

In the end, what is "worth holding out for" are the particular characteristics and traits that we believe will define the base-level-necessity of a life that will support any number of scenarios that may be built upon it.

It is all about having the proper priorities, deciding what is truly important to you, having an awareness of the true nature of things, and making good decisions...

It also helps to listen to what God - through the Holy Spirit - is trying to tell you. ;)

(A vitally important part of the process...) :)

Exactly. One look at my current boyfriend and then 2 of my ex boyfriends will tell you that beauty truly does lie in the eyes of the beholder. I saw a 'mustang' where others saw a volvo'. My current bf really is a 'mustang', but that's besides the point. :p
