Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

This is kind of funny, but back in the day Leonard Nimoy was considered Star Trek's sex symbol much to the surprise of Gene Roddenberry and others who helped write and produce the show.

Ladies apparently like their Vulcans. Unfortunately for me, I'm more like the characters who are androids/cyborgs/computers/holograms than I am the Vulcans. Might explain the luck I've had with the women as of late. :P

Well...

If Spock is a Volvo...

kirk_and_spock_tmp.jpg

I guess that makes Kirk a Unicorn Hunter. And I'm really okay with that. :D

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

If any of what I'm gonna say offends/rubs you the wrong way, please consider this as part of our swapping of ideas in our journey to find and talk about truth. I'm just tossing out theories here.

To a certain extent, I wonder if unicorn hunters have an emotional detachment from a reality they don't want to accept. It allows them to believe in something beyond the ever present reality, that they emotionally don't want to accept and embrace. Their reality pricks them daily, like a goad prods cattle.

The daily pricking of the goad of reality, drives them to an escapism, know in this thread as "The Unicorn Hunter". The emotional escapism gives them the strength to survive each day. All in the eternal hopes that there is indeed a unicorn out there, and that the reality they're seeking to escape from isn't real.

Now don't get me wrong. We shouldn't all become the person who refuses to have joy, happiness and hope in life because "Hey I've just decided to be real man." These types of people think ONLY train-wrecks exist. Out of their desire to avoid any pain whatsoever, they've embraced a hyper-cynicism, that allows them to avoid the hurt that comes from a potentially crushed hope.

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

I'm going to stop writing threads because all I have to do is sit back and wait for Stillwaters!! He's much more creative!! :)

I think a lot of Christians are expecting their own male/female equivalent of Jesus to come charging into their lives ON a unicorn, then rescue/save them from the train wreck of their own lives or wrong choices, and tell them, "Oh, you're definitely worth a Porsche, not a Volvo. Therefore I will bow to your every need, make all your loneliness disappear, make sure you are happy every waking hour of every single day, have as much sex as you want anytime you want, and treat you like the Prince/ss Porsche you most certainly are!!"

Good luck with that. They assume "God's Best" for them is Happily Ever After. Look at the people in the Bible... How many got a Happily Ever After? Why do we expect to be so much different? We sing the praises of famous Biblical characters and forget that a good number of them suffered terribly and/or were martyred for their faith. Maybe this is why Walt Disney makes movies based on Grimm's Fairytales and not Famous People of The Holy Scriptures.

As for me, I'm thinking... If I could only find that Candy Mountain... and yes, I do mean that it literally has to be made out of candy-- and only my favorite kinds, duh!

I'm good with that.

Oh, and maybe a hot personal trainer who happens to be a dedicated Christian... so that he could save me from the train wreck of discovering Candy Mountain. :D

Hey, a girl can use her God-Given Imagination!! :D

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

First of all...

I was more so thinking of this guy
zachary-quinto-spock-433873717.jpg

who plays the YOUNG Spock
zQuintoSpock2.jpg

which I thought I specified but maybe not...

And actually on the subject, I believe that we MAKE happiness. It doesn't just fall into our laps, it's not in the form of a person or an ideal, it's our choices from day to day that determine our happiness. How we choose to act, react and treat those whom we love, plays a vital role in said happiness. And God's best doesn't always mean what's only best for you. It can sometimes mean what's best for all involved and what will be most effective for His kingdom. Though, He loves you very much and since relationship (with Him) is the whole reason we're here, it makes sense that He would want it to be good between us as well. ^_^

I often don't post because I could really go on for days with all sorts of theories, stories and scripture but so as not to bore everyone, I stick with my Spock pictures. Ow ow! :P

Yeah, I don't get it either. Green blooded hobgoblins. All out of their Vulcan minds.
What, you callin' me a name, ritt nessman. Better be carefyl or I will call you by your real name, Les :D

Oh, it's Spock in a Mork costume, sorry for the costumfusion, a green blooded error, you could say in forming a hyothesis if wondering the definitive effect of living with dyslexia and that green matter to consider that zings and zangs the neurons and dendrites and synapses in my brain.

*green quite positive after his game effort at sounding like he was advenrurously scaling the train of thought in a mosaic motif that largely resembles the way of thinking studiously yet conservatively, with a volcanic yet Vulcan-ic laced interpretation of ritt's said critical thought to liamsON , not that anyone is paying attention to what little ole green Volvo (sorry, orange is not my color, especially 'burnt orange') me is saying.

Now, I'm thinking I've re-railed this train wreck, but you may have to check with hot Spock loving girl, catty, and, sidekick, areuniwinny, and twofeetedunicorny, ahhh, and, OH, btw, IF we are derailing this over proper conjunction to train thought back to

1. Unicorn hunter
2 trainwreck facilitator
3. Volvo traveler , er, settler ( you settle, i'ma travelin' :D )

then, so, catty, for one, and, there are probably more, bur young Spock gf Jennifer Aniston, seems he likes the jolly (sp? jolie?) homewreckers and leading lady romance stars. Maybe you oughta become friends with her , then trainwreck the two's tryst.

The Lord leads, but, I've said enuf, I think, therefore, I am well done speaking what was all just spock, I mean, spoke. Greenian slip, sorry, I must get that changed :D

NOPE...

The difference is in the things that are Accomplished. But a person can't accomplish what they don't know to aim for. We live in a culture that says, "YOU do not deserve to achieve any success in anything. All you can hope to ever achieve is to live vicariously through the accomplishments of other people." To root for a team or an athlete or a political party and whatever success they achieve, we simply latch onto as our own.

That is great but, there is no one who is going to live your life for you. No channel that can be watched or website than can be visited that will make you feel what it is like to ACTUALLY EXPERIENCE LIFE. To work for years at something, to train and to put it all on the line to achieve the goal is SATISFYING. Volvo's are the ones who are detached. They have never tried to succeed and have merely "settled" for whatever they thought was prudent, whatever was traditional, whatever was safe and they have robbed themselves.

A volvo...

When you outrun your best mile time, when you have a conversation in a foreign language, when you play an entire song, when you summit the mountain, when you hoist the trophy, you know that nothing can take that accomplishment away from you. If you marry someone because its simply something traditional to do, you are robbing yourself. When you work and fight and pour yourself into winning a woman's heart and trust and the opportunity to spend the rest of your life with her is so much sweeter, than if you simply picked the low hanging fruit because it was easy.

Nothing can take my awards from me. When the paper disappears and the medals get lost in a move, the effort and the drive it took to get me there will still exist. Once I tasted that I didn't have to be on the regular choir, I could be in advanced choir and I didn't have to play on JV football, I could work hard and start on the varsity squad. I'm not going to settle for something, when I can focus on making who I am be the absolute best I can be for the person I will spend the rest of my life with. They don't deserve anything less.

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

Prosaic platitudes are great fodder for self-help books, message boards, and get us pumped up seminars. They do serve their purpose. They keep us motivated.

On the other hand, all too often, people run from their "Volvo", because it doesn't match their prosaic platitude. The safety of the unrealized platitude is much more palatable to the unicorn hunter than enduring with the Volvo.

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

I also think if Unicorn Hunters aren't careful, their prosaic platitudes can become equivalent to the heavy yoke religious leaders put on people in the days of Jesus.

Those leaders were great at writing and speaking all these great ideals, but when it came time to actually applying it, they ran once the slightest discomfort came.

If a unicorn hunter lacks the application of their written platitudes, in the face of discomfort, then they're in a sense, a white washed tomb.

It's one thing to type out a nice lofty platitude on a keyboard, it's another thing to apply said platitudes to a tough situation once it comes your way, or once you've chosen to stick the toe in the waters.

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

I don't know about unicorns or Volvos, but once you've shared your life with a thoroughbred, it's tough to convince yourself that no others exist.

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

I will settle for nothing less than a unicorn crashing a train into a volvo!

No, seriously, I don't fit into any of those categories right now. But fun thread!

I'm moving to Mexico this April. I'm not doing it for a girl but, its definitely NOT a Volvo thing to do. ;)

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

Before I continue, may I just state that some girls actually find boxy rust-colored Volvo's to be their dream car?? And I am talking about me, and I am not joking :P

So anywhoo... I think most girls are taught by the females in their respective lives that one MUST be a Unicorn Hunter, or else how will you find the perfect man? I still don't understand why people think that there is only one person out there for each of us. I think that is why people are so unicorn-crazy! Perfect-Mr.-Man is out there! I know it! I can't date this one or that one because what if Mr. Perfect comes along in the meantime???!?!?! Or People just decide to abandon a relationship because people are not taught to work at something to make it better. It makes me sad. Both women and men are avid unicorn seekers might I add. ;)

Train-wreck rubberneckers are not being given a lot of debate here it seems. Many ladies like a fixer-upper. Again, they are taught that if he isn't a unicorn, MAKE HIM ONE! Instead of appreciating the differences in each other, we seem to enjoy pressing others into unattainable molds of unicorny perfection. You can't change someone, so I say train wreckers are just unicorn hunters out for a challenge.

And the Volvo "settlers"... WHAT IS WRONG WITH VOLVOS, and why is it settling to be with one?? :D I would hope I wouldn't be someone that someone settled for. How horrific to think about oneself in that way!! I will not be settled for. I will be loved as God loved the Church! :)

That is all. :D

Ahhh.. Perfection... ;)

Bridget, you are not a Volvo though. You are a Unicorn. You can marry a Volvo if you like. They are reliable. Being a Unicorn does not mean being perfect. No one is perfect.

Just don't confuse a Volvo with a train wreck. Speaking of such things, I'm not fully aware of what a train wreck looks like, metaphorically speaking.

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

Good job Bridget...I agree that the whole "settling" mentality is just .. NOT OKAY! I assure you sister, your man will look at you with DELIGHT and APPRECIATION and will demonstrate that he is absolutely NOT SETTLING when he sets out WOO your heart and WIN your consent to marry him.
Blessings!

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

And you can't redefine "Volvo" with "Unicorn".
The purpose of the unicorn analogy was to describe those chasing something that doesn't exist, because they can't/won't/don't wanna live in reality with the rest of us.

My thread.
My rules.

I have fond memories of an orange Volvo. I always thought it was the COOLEST car.

I'm sticking with my fellow dreamers here, Still. We cannot realistically expect a protracted story-book style romance. What we can expect is real romance.

I know it exists. I know what it is like to fall in love. I really don't think that state is impossible to achieve with the other party feeling the same and willing to share a life with you.

Is it easy? No. But I've seen the short-sighted Volvo's regretting their decisions later in life and doing things that would be tantamount to scandal because they didn't marry the person they love. Someone I hold very dearly is the product of a Volvo marriage, and he suffered for it. I vow never to face something like that.
