"This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me."
I have used this Scripture many of time when talking to people who think they will get into heaven because they are "good".... Want to see humanism's ugly head.... use this Scripture, tell them they are not good, then explain how our standard is Perfection.... For we all have fallen short of the Glory of God (Jesus, Perfection).... What is funny, not haha funny but ironically, because God's Word defends itself they either get saved or walk away convicted....

Jesus was not saying ' I am not God' in this ...but that ' i am God... you do not know what you are saying'
JESUS was fully man and fully GOD and GOD gave everyone the ability to make a choice.When the rich young ruler approached JESUS he gave respect to the outward appearance of JESUS as a priest Instead of recognizing the SPIRIT of GOD.
He said good master what must I do to Inherit Eternal Life.
JESUS told him"why do you call me good"In other words why do you choose to look at man to save you Instead of calling on GOD?
So then since he gave respect to what he could see rather than call on GOD ,JESUS who was born during the time of the law pointed him to the law telling him"you know the ten commandments"and we know that no man can keep the ten commandments so then how could the man Inherit Eternal Life since no man can keep the ten commandments
Answer=Only GOD In CHRIST could keep the ten commandments
With men this Is Impossible but with GOD All things are possible.

Rhetorical point. Jesus was revealing himself, so that the man he was speaking to would know that by affirming him as good he was confessing him as God.
A lot of people quote that verse trying to use it to say Jesus denied He was good.. But Jesus never denied He was good in that scripture.. He was asking the Young man Why he was calling Jesus Good.. The young man did not know Jesus was God manifested in the flesh.. The young man had got into a very bad habit of calling other people Good..

Jesus indeed called Himself good. In the Gospel of John, He said "I am the Good Shepherd". One of His many "I AM" declarations.
Yes ,because of the weakness of the flesh man could not meet GODs standard of perfection although he would delight In the law of GOD In his fleshly mind, he would see another law warring against the law of his mind bringing him Into captivity to the law of sin.
JESUS said that every jot and tittle of the law would be fulfilled and HE fulfilled the law as a man righteously which demanded death to those who broke the law and JESUS had mercy on man who could not keep the law and died on a cross for mans sake satisfying the demand of the law which meant death and made everything new righteously.
Now the Issue for man Is not can you keep the ten commandments Perfectly which would have been Impossible for man because of the weakness of the flesh but now the Issue Is do you believe In the WORD of GOD.

Jesus was God on the earth God the father was and is in heaven. God is a spirit and so we are given his spirit if he knows you. So are we good? YES if we are lead by the spirit of God. No if we are in the flesh..
The Christ is in heaven now and will return for his people. WE are on earth now but will be with and like him when he returns to get us. We are the witness about him while here. Praise God for his people and his blessing upon the earth. There are three that bear witness in earth:the spirit the water and the blood. These three agree in one......1 john 5:8 Be a good witness in your time here.
