I hope I'm not intruding, but I just wanted to say I'm finding this conversation (food reviews of high-end restaurants) to be FASCINATING and I hope it will continue!!

I only go out to eat a handful of times a year (on birthdays) and you can see from my avatar what kind of food I'm accustomed to when doing so! 😁

I know NOTHING about fine dining (I've been to a fancy restaurant once and I didn't understand the concept of "chargers." You mean, this fancy plate in front of me is just for looks and not actual food??!!) so it's a treat to read about it from people who are part of that world.

I hope you'll keep on going and I am enjoying this higher level of the spirit of bon appetit, even if only online! 😊

This menu looks appealing. Trying the grilled fish sounds smashing. If I were going there, I'd try that and skip the dessert in favor of a draft pilsner to go along with it. But the grilled lamb chops (Mustard & Honey Glaze, Duck Fat Potatoes, Watercress & Endive Salad) sounds pretty good. I might go for that with a Victory Golden Monkey.

I learned at least one new thing from this menu. Haricots Verts. After looking this up, I'm finding that this is a slender French green bean. I hope I've upped my refinement a wee little bit with this knowledge! 😁
Those are excellent choices Carrie. I was kinda torn between the grilled fish and the lamb too, but since whole grilled fish is kinda of a rare item in U.S. restaurants i wanted to try this one here at this place.
And if i were to get the lamb rack i would try to compliment it with this red wine from Italy which has a very sweet taste.

For the fish tho, i would try a Pino from Italy, the Norther region from Trentino, like this one here. Chilled of course.

And usually if i don't get a Tiramisu in the end, i just get a single shot or a double shot of espresso. The coffee goes always in the end. It's the last thing :)

I would say that this restaurant here in Manhattan is a very good restaurant @CarriePie.

Thanks for this @Karlon . Good choice.

Let’s do another restaurant review today @Karlon. @CarriePie, please join us.
Karlon, I’m not going to review that Japanese restaurant called Nobu because I don’t eat Japanese food or raw food or fish.
So I’m going to skip that. Like if you took me to a sushi place, I would simply walk out and leave you there.

I tried to find that Mediterranean place in Amsterdam NY but couldn’t find anything so let me know where that place is Karlon.

So this leaves me with Tavern on the Green in Manhattan. https://www.tavernonthegreen.com/menu/
First, I like the interior of this place. It does give a high end vibe. Very tasteful. And the menu here seems to have a more Mediterranean vibe too. Many things to choose from. Lamb, scallops or grilled fish.
I would probably try a grilled fish here just to see if this American restaurant knows how to prepare and cook fish like they do in Greek restaurants because from experience Karlon, I can tell you that very very very very few American restaurants know how to cook and prepare a whole fish.
This is a specialty reserved for the Greeks typically.
So I’d like to try it here just to see.

@CarriePie what are your thoughts here? :)
hi eli. i was at merch sales since 7:50 this a.m. i didn't say that the restaurant in amsterdam was mediterranean, i just said that they served a mediterranean salad that was absolutely delicious! it was called the castle but they weren't;'r open very long, maybe 23 years. i'll help you find it: it's on the southside of amsterdam n.y. nan old building that looks like a castle that was actually a training establishment for the 46th company of the n.y. national guard. it was built in the late 1800's. there isn't 1 way to cook fish. you can have 30 countries cooking fish in 30 different ways. because cooked fish doesn't please the palate of 1 person, that doesn't mean it's not delectable. you sound like you are knowledgeable on dining so you can easily understand an expansed format in tastes. the tavern on the green used to have & maybe still does, an excellent sunday brunch serving seafood as in lobster & smoked salmon.

Well there are 3 main ways to cook a fish.

1. Fire (or grilled) which is my favorite
2. Stove (or baked)
3. Fried

All of these options have many variations within them which is why you're thinking 30 different ways but it's really like 3 main ways actually. And then each country adds their own unique style to any of those options.
