Go to church. Seriously.

I know it sounds contrived and a sort of "well duh" idea, but it is the best defense you can have. I didn't during college, and I found myself just letting the world stuff get to me. Even if it's like once a month, go. If it's just a tiny little group that meets on campus (obviously check them out to see if they're legit), go. And obviously personal study and prayer is a huge benefit. Like I said, I have been slack about it and it has made things tougher than need be.

Plus when you don't go for a long time, it makes it easier to not go at all. For some people it makes them afraid to be back after so long for fear of judgment, disappointment, ect. That's literally the enemy trying to get you to stop going at any cost.

I recently came back to my home church after college and wish I had tried harder to come more often. It helps. Trust me. Don't make the mistake I did. I mean it doesn't seem like it makes a big deal, but it would have made things a big deal better.

I was in college for 2 years many years ago in the mid-70's. It was an auto-tech program but the training manuals were from the 50's. This was at the time that computers were starting to appear on cars. Unfortunately, my training didn't reflect that. I took a term off to get married and didn't resume again until the mid-80's. Never did graduate. Forgot most of what I was taught. The whole thing was a total fiasco. At least I didn't run up any debt doing this. I didn't learn squat.

ArtsieSteph,

I am at a university attempting to gain a Social Work degree..just a BS. A Masters will be pay as you go. What I have learned while here is that most of what the US calls education is but fluff. Extremely empty expensive books, on campus housing and tuition. In the Women's and gender and Spanish Literature classes, I am being inundated with studies of homosexual teachings. One of the subjects that was discussed in class was about how 5 sexes have been discovered by the medical society but there could be eight. I told my teacher in Women Studies that God only created 2 people and they were male and female. 4 or 5 students in that class have told the students in class they are homosexuals. What my teacher believes is that the bible was written by men and its been changed t
hroughout history so therefore is not valid.

I told her that God inspired His written word through the Holy Spirit to those who had a hand in writing the scriptures. There is an LGBT club on the campus and even an Atheist club. The devil is very present on this campus but the cool thing also is there are several Christian clubs. True education is of God's word, for He says, "Without Him we can do nothing." I am seeing many students who had a relationship with God at some point toss it aside for studies and social interactions. It does not take much to find yourself on the outside looking in without a love relationship with God. And just like the immune system, if its not kept healthy it's susceptible to any thing.

Don't go to an expensive college first two years.
I currently just finished my freshman year and it was a very expensive school. I don't think my grades will be good enough to get back in so I'm staying, but it's draining my parents wallets. Lucky I'm an only child and my parents don't have to go though this again. College shouldn't be a place thought of to party or drink it should be thought of the institution that is going to jumpstart your career. Also, don't only think of Christian colleges. Real life isn't living in a bubble. It's okay to experience other types of people. It gives you an opportunity to share your faith with a non believer.

old proverb (in line with Scripture)

"before a (fancy|expensive|'advanced'|specialized|'professional'|college)
education , give your son a trade.

if he has a trade, no matter where he goes, he has/can work.

and as it is written also, never changed, "work with your hands, dependent on no one"....

yes, the whole world has devised many alternatives.

well, the whole world is under judgment, as in the days of noah, and s.andg..... condemned.

Your completely on point of thinking outside of only Christian colleges. When I compare my college experience so far with friends that have gone to Christian colleges it's a different atmosphere. It definitely is a lot harder and you will face temptations, especially with your friends who don't have the same values. But you get the opportunity to meet so many different people. That may really need someone like you. It's awesome

Here's an old southern gospel song "Excuses"

Chorus:
Excuses, excuses, you'll hear them every day, now the devil, he'll supply them if from church you stay away.
When people come to know the LORD, the devil always loses, so to keep them folks away from church, he offers them excuses.

Verse
In the summer, it's too hot. In the winter, it's too cold. In the springtime when the weather's just right, you find someplace else to go. Well, it's up to the mountains, or down to the beach, or to visit some old friend. Or, stay home and kinda relax, and hope some of the kinfolk start dropping in
Well, a headache Sunday morning, and a backache Sunday night, but by worktime Monday morning, you're feeling quite alright. Why one of the kids has a cold, pneumonia do you suppose? Why the whole family had to stay home just to blow that poor kid's nose!!!

Repeat the chorus
