Just wondering if there is some kind of list?
Does one get a warning first?
Thanks.

Read the stickies at the top of the Bible Discussion Forum page. Also, the Terms of Service at the very bottom of the page.

The thing that'll get you in trouble quicker than anything is a pattern of rude and disrespectful behavior. If you occasionally get into a heated debate with someone it probably won't get you banned; but a pattern of abusive behavior over time will. You probably won't get a warning. More likely you'll get put in time out for 30 days the first time, and then banned the next time.

I recommend avoiding getting into it with people you know push your buttons or are acting disrespectfully toward you. Instead just report them and/or put them on ignore. The moderators know who the troublemakers are; let them deal with them.

Appreciate the feedback. I’m not too worried about the “heated debates.” I have a fair bit of previous experience on social media. I tend to avoid nonsensical arguments. I can usually tell when someone is deliberately trying to waste people’s time.

Yet, I did hear that a person can be banned for denying the deity of Christ (not that I do). I’ve also noticed that people avoid naming of cults. Is this also banned? Are there other unwritten “don’ts”?

Read this sticky: https://christianchat.com/bible-discussion-forum/guidelines-for-reporting-posts.188234/

It's a short list of don'ts, and denial of the deity of Christ is on it. You probably wouldn't get banned for it unless you tried to rabidly promote it. I've named a lot of cults and never gotten in any trouble for it. Again, the idea is to be respectful. If it's just your opinion that X, Y or Z is a cult, you won't get banned just for expressing your opinion. This site considers Catholicism a heresy. Catholics are tolerated so long as they don't go into full-on recruitment mode. I've seen a lot of them get banned.

Hi Trulyfree,

Welcome to CC and we're glad to have you here! I don't hang out much in the Bible Discussion Forum except to silently read along. I'm glad others here have been able to let you know what's considered problematic here from a theological perspective.

I hang out mostly in Family and Singles, and I have known of several bannings that went on behind the scenes due to personal misconduct.

For instance, maybe someone was sending inappropriate PM's, started stalking someone here on their personal media, or wouldn't take no for an answer. Being a woman, more ladies have confided in me about this than gentlemen, but it definitely happens on both sides.

People might suddenly disappear or have "Banned" under their names for what seems like "no reason," but it might very well be because of things they are sending in personal messages, harassing someone behind closed doors, or trying to track down someone from this site who doesn't want to be found.

This is a Christian site, but unfortunately, it's not without the same issues you'll find on any other such place on the internet.

Hope you enjoy your time here and looking forward to seeing more of your posts and threads! :)

Howdy and welcome to the forum.

As long as you didn't come here with an ax to grind, it's really super hard to get banned by accident here.

I've seen conversations about catholics, homosexuals, various gnostic beliefs, even sexual practices and menstrual problems. It was all good because everybody was discussing the topic at hand in a respectful manner. People disagreed, but they were able to disagree politely.

Then again I've seen some people fly in here, hammer on one simple topic, beat their chosen horse to death and keep on beating it, belittle everybody who disagrees with them... Those people don't last very long here. They either leave in a huff, get kicked out or gravitate to the bible discussion forum where they can yell at and insult like-minded argumentative types.

Shoot... I'm a one god, Jesus name, Pentecostal preacher and I haven't managed to get kicked out yet. But I'm not here to argue about those things. I'm here to chill out and chat with friends. I've been hanging around for about a decade now, making bad jokes wherever I see an opportunity. I haven't even come close to being accidentally banned yet.

Ah, yes, that also makes sense. Well, I’m a very happily married man for 28 years!

Yes, hoping to make further contributions. Just trying to be careful. I’m not keen to get into empty squabbles over words. My favourite subject is Jesus. I long for edifying talks - “washing each others feet,” if you will.

😊

Yeah, I’m not here to make a scene. Personally, I love to talk about my Saviour and share the gospel.

Yep, I think I get the drift!

Well, I’m used to bad jokes. My father-in-law preached for close to 70 years and he sure loves his jokes!

If you care to share, there's at least one joke thread in every forum. Every forum that matters, at least...

We really do have a wonderful community here. I've met some people from this site in person who, God-willing, will be lifelong friends.

When I first came here, I was a very angry, bitter person who was working through a lot of in my life. I started writing a lot of threads that many would find a bit controversial (nothing heretical, just a troubled heart working talking itself out.)

The administration was very kind to give me a chance, and I've been writing threads ever since.

Sometimes you might find that someone here was banned and you won't know why. Sometimes there is a community uproar over someone who was banned, with people wanting to know why.

However, I have heard of more than once when very Godly-sounding people have shown up here, writing very Godly-sounding posts, and sounding like a beacons of faith among the community.

But behind the scenes, they were writing inappropriate messages to other members.

The administration usually doesn't explain a banning -- after all, personal privacy and liability issues might be involved -- but I have come to trust their discretion in making such decisions.

The fastest way to get banned is to threaten physical violence against another member.

The number one theological issue that gets people banned is denying the Deity of Christ.

You can say you don't believe it, but it is continually arguing against it that is problematic.

And it is not like people are not told it is an offence worthy of being banned.

They often are, but it does not always stop them. Mod appreciates our looking out for offenders.

Welcome to CC, Trulyfree!

As @Lynx said, it's pretty hard to get banned from here.

Most of the bans I've seen during my time in these forums (since May 2015) have come as a result of people who:

1. Came in to insist that their views were the correct ones and that anyone who disagreed in any way were called damnable heretics, among other insults.

2. Came in with rather sexually explicit posts. In those cases, the admin(s) banned them for things which we don't really know.

3. Came in threatening various members, saying they would send their "friends" here to take care of business.

The second and third ones were big problems 7 or 8 years ago, prior to the site makeover.

The first one still rears its head from time to time.

I hope you enjoy your time here! ;)

It is the view of the site owner that the RCC is heretical. He started a thread on it (here)... and he also states:

If there's something that you really think we should deal with, then use the Report button (there's a Report button on every post). But please understand that there will be some error and we don't remove all error or even all heresy from the site, partly because it's an opportunity for Christians to correct it and respond with the word of God. But if there's too much of it or too much from one person then we do some housecleaning. We certainly don't want our site to be dominated by Catholic heresy or whatever heresy or error, and we don't want people to get the impression that we just tolerate all of that.

So for the record, Catholicism is heresy. That's what the admins of this site believe.

I’m glad that the admins here are responsible.
