About to have my bath, so will look in later to see if there are replies. My greatest strength is definitely depth and complexity of thought, however, when it's misfiring, i make the ouzelum bird look smart .

Hi @LifelongLearner,

This is a fantastic question to ask for a thread!

From the time I was a kid, people have told me I overthink things (if I had a nickel for every time people told me, "KISS!!" -- Keep It Simple, Stupid, I'd be a millionaire.)

The thing is, that's not the whole picture -- I actually have two very different sides -- the side the wants to break everything down everything about life into atomic-sized particles, and the part that's literally like "Doo dee doo!" and keeps me from understanding or remembering things that are "simple" to others.

I was telling a friend the other day, I have to warn people that my brain only picks up a few pieces of information at a time. So if they tell me 10 things about themselves, I might pick up 3 -- and the problem is, it's like my brain has to dump the first set of information to take on a whole new set. I can only retain a certain amount of info at a time. Instead of adding to it, my hard drive often seems to wipe itself out and wants to start from scratch.

From childhood, I could not understand nor remember directions. When I started to drive, I had to print out directions from Mapquest, and today, GPS is my directional lifeline -- even to places I've been to dozens of times.

I don't know if I have some kind of learning disorder, but when people meet me, they either see the overthinking side (which is annoying,) or my "UM, DUH" side, which is even more annoying!! (This is why I'll write about cake in one thread, then write about STD's in the next -- my brain is flipping sides and taking turns.)

I am VERY thankful though that God has put a few people in my life that can tolerate both sides, and somehow even graciously accept the person behind them. 🙏🏼

Awesome thread, LLL!

Sarcasm. It gets me into trouble far too often.

I can relate to this all too well!

I popped into the live chat rooms yesterday and someone was talking about nuclear war, while someone else said something about McDonald's vs. Burger King.

I immediately wanted to say, "So... Eating at McDonald's or Burger King causes nuclear war?!"

I meant it to be funny of course, but realized they were two entirely separate conversations going on between different groups of people, so it wouldn't have landed right and might be seen as offensive.

I'm always in situations like that, because my brain tries to look for the humor -- well, MY sense of humor at least -- in most everything.

It's tough for me to hold back 😁, but every now and then, I manage to reign it in.

From personal experience , a soft heart . My greatest strength ( apart from Jesus of course ) , and also the thing that causes me so very much pain on a very regular basis 😞 .
God's blessings Suze, i saw your thread about forgiveness but was really short on time . Later on, i couldn't remember where it was, hugs and love, i too feel like that at times.

Think you might be prone to depression too? I can be far too tough on myself for things i'd tell others not to be so harsh on themselves about, we're all human sort of thing. Know what you mean about being soft hearted too, i'm definitely somewhat tougher now, so many people have seriously lost the plot since '20 and only the LORD can sort the evil mess out. Even i know miracles are a mission too far for me.

I don't want to b hard or cold hearted , I know that's not how a Christian should b . I don't get depressed but I do get over emotional about things that other people seem much more able to shake off than I do .
I have learned not to expect too much consideration from any body else , if we don't have any expectations then we can't b disappointed can we ? 😜 Hugs back ❤️ .

Oooooo me too ! I'm always looking for the funny side but sadly , not everyone else is 🙄 . I love to laugh and like to try to make others laugh but it doesn't always fall right 😞 . So many people seem to take themselves and life very seriously , too seriously for my liking , when I meet someone like that , my repressed comedienne comes rushing up to the surface , it's like a red rag to a bull 🤪 . I don't take myself seriously at all and I can't understand people who do .
I realise that people have all kinds of problems in life , I've had my share but , I've always enjoyed a good giggle . After my mastectomy , I went for my first check up with the nurse . She made some general enquiries about how I was feeling etc and I looked at her , totally straight faced and said : I'm fine thank you , just wondering when I can expect it to start growing back . Her face was a picture 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆 . Keep up the giggles !

Full reply now sister, messed up on edit:

"This is a fantastic question to ask for a thread!"

 You rock for saying that, serious cheers Seoul, i wasn't sure at all about posting this thread and definitely wasn't expecting so many replies.

Ditto me, people say i think too much but to me it seems it's lack of thought which causes most problems. Personally, i think most people don't pay enough attention to cost/benefit, which is why the world is is in such a mess. Know what you mean when you say it's like having different sides but i see it as being able to see both or more sides, so able to make better decisions. Not perfect and still get in a mess at times but less than average, for sure. Think you're similar sister, don't knock it.

"I have to warn people that my brain only picks up a few pieces of information at a time."

My jaw dropped at that self criticism, doubt i'm the only one who thinks that's so wrong, i think you're very perceptive and analytical, pretty decent territory for me too. Grrr! i'm the tooth fairy if you have a learning disorder, however, i can be stupidly harsh and critical of myself too when on a downer, i think you're probably thinking yourself into issues, so they become habits. I have that tendency too and it caused me so much grief when really young but thankfully, i realised what i was doing to myself.

"I am VERY thankful though that God has put a few people in my life that can tolerate both sides, and somehow even graciously accept the person behind them. 🙏🏼"

Seriously doubt i'm the only one who thinks you're one of the loveliest, smartest people to grace this forum. My jaw dropped at the last part of the above from you, they accept you cos you rock!

I believe that you may be empathic to the pain and suffering of others. Yes, that could cause a certain measure of pain feeling the pain of others and acting upon it in a positive way. Takes a lot of sacrifice too. I'm sure that you know all of this stuff. Reading your post is like a breath of fresh air. Very appreciative.

I think I fought that bird in Horizon. As I recall it was weak to ice arrows...
