I’ve been selfish. Extra selfish, for a couple of months now. Because I’ve not been feeling well, I’ve been becoming more and more self-absorbed. Short tempered.

This is probably a pretty human response to a tough situation, but it’s not what I want to do. It feels less like a response that I’m choosing and more like a reflex. I’m not saying I have no control over it- just describing it better.

The timing of it though, is interesting to me- my health, and my attitude, started going really haywire at about the same time my family started attending church regularly and I actually started studying my Bible. In fact, a lot of things seemed to get more difficult right around then, without there being any obvious cause that I can recall.

So, I’m wondering, has anyone else noticed this in their life? That when you’re actively trying to get back on track, things seem to start getting extra difficult?

Note: I realize this may feel too personal for some people to share their own experiences on; that’s ok, but I hope people will still share their thoughts/advice.

Perhaps, when it seems that your life is now on the right spiritual track the enemy tries to derail you.

You have described most of my life. I would say up until the past few years that was the single biggest deterrent for me to pray or read. My life fell apart every time I started. And it was relentless until I gave up. Then, suddenly, it all stopped. I noticed it. I asked people about it. Mostly I heard "God must have something big for you if Satan is attacking you that bad".
I always hated that answer.
I always told people it was too much, it overwhelmed me and I had no choice but to give in. People then always said "You just have to trust God". Others may have thought I kept hearing that because it was God. I believed people cared so little they all phoned in their cliche, thoughtless answer.

What I'm realizing now, that I didn't before, is none of those people stuck with me. They rattled off their neat, easy answer that put all the weight on me, and tootled off leaving me to deal alone. No wonder I was overcome. Instead of a cord of believers working together I found people eager to run away.

I don't know your situation, Cristen. I would suggest going to people, individuals you can trust. Explaining it to them. THEN informing them that you need them to be praying about it. Regularly and actively. And keep them updated so they know to keep praying. Don't wait for random people to stick with you and help.

I am admittedly no prayer warrior, but when I do pray I'll try to keep you and the situation in mind. But you'll want to find more prayerful people than me haha.

And that's my story and advice.

'Zackly. Tell the enemy where to go, how to get there, and what time the bus leaves. Lean on God for strength to fight the battles... big and small.
