I don't date.

When I meet a girl I like, I just hand her a gift certificate to a fancy restaurant.

That way I can let her know I like her... but I don't have to listen to her talk all night.

I don't know lol.

my 1st boyfriend and I were friends for months, and one day he said he liked me. I happened to like him, too, so.... there's that.

my husband and I were friends for months before we decided to be exclusive.

5) More like OJT (on the Job training) - trial and error - winging it...
But, having older sisters and raised by a widowed mom, and John Wayne movies - I did learn (indirectly) to treat girls with respect...

Agreed. I've dated mostly goth girls there pretty easy to date. Pop in a horror movie get some junk food maybe go to a metal concert....thats about it :LOL:

lol funny how you think a Goth would prefer Soda over alcohol (Also im from Wisconsin so double no). I'd of course have soda since I dont like nor can physically drink alcohol. Yup either a horror movie or an anime or both....quite a few decent horror animes :)
 
I don't think I ever had an "official" date until I was 40. After high school, after 20+ years of marriage, and about a year after my marriage ended.
An official date where a guy asks you out and brings you flowers and you talk one on one, with no ones friends tagging along.
Sad but true.
So, I'm still learning how...but I have a pretty good idea of what not to do.

I'm not sure i fully understand the question. Is there a list of do's and dont's somewhere to learn? It's such a broad and varied concept i don't think it can be 'learned'. Rather it seems you take someone out to learn about them. And pretty much anything presents you a chance to learn one thing or another about someone.
If you just be yourself there's no need to 'learn' anything about dating. Otherwise you're altering the percption of yourself and not being honest about who you are. This creates a false attraction and an eventual failed relationship as the real you comes to light.

Don't worry, you'll be fine. I agree with your estimation on what constitutes an official date too. A man that is romantically inclined will definitely be bringing you flowers when he comes calling on you.
