Who is an anti-christ?

The Bible says in the end times there will be many anti-christs, and we already have many anti-christs.
They will deny that Jesus is the Messiah.
Is there anything else?
Could a church make a Statement of Faith that says "you must be born again" but then preach and teach and live something a little different, would they be an anti-christ?
How else may we understand who is an anti-christ?
How about those that say we can bypass Jesus and go directly to the Father.
Are they anti-christs?
Can anyone help here to understand what we need to be looking for?

2 Thessalonians 2:4,9-11 KJVS
[4] Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
[9] Even him , whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, [10] And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. Thank you for your answer but I was thinking more in line with this.

"Dear children, this is the last hour; and you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come.
Yes, these people are deceivers, but who are they today?
Is it a church, a denomination, a person living down the street, just what should we be looking for?
Or am I making it too complicated?

Look at the errors (taught by antichrists) that John refutes in 1 John and see who is teaching/practising those today. For example, 1 John 1:8, 1:10, 2:4.

1 John 2:18King James Version (KJV)

18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that ___???????____ antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
 
It seems like to me us Christians have called anyone we didn't like as a leader - the anti-Christ...like Hitler, etc. different Russian leaders ( most of them definitely were anti-Christ in their behavior )

Personally I have no clue who is "the anti-Christ". I figure if the Lord wants me to know - He'll tell me or give me the desire to know at least.

What does it mean exactly?? I haz no clue.
 
I don't dispute one antichrist being above all the others.
My Bible talks about deceivers, apostates, seducers, teachers of false doctrine as being antichrists.
Teachers of false doctrine?
Are false prophets antichrists?
Are those that teach destructive heresies antichrists?
How about the prosperity gospel?
Is that a false gospel?
If it is, then those that teach it are antichrists, am I correct?
 
I suppose one could also say that those that teach you need to "maintain" their righteousness could be called anti-christ too.

Anti-Christ to me means anything that is against what Christ has already done in His completed work. I wonder if Paul would have called those Judaziers in Galatians anti-christs?
 
Those who deny the Father and the Son. 1John 2:22

the religion of antichrist is Islam, which as a profession of faith denies the Father and the Son.

Paul warns us against deceivers, human tradition, those with itching ears, unfruitful works of darkness.

But Paul also says a couple of other things.
2 Timothy 4
"preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching".

Also, 1 Corinthians 2:15;
"The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one".

Man, how important is all this if one wants to evangelize God's word.

It seems the church is general to my knowledge has made their own laws and preach it like it's Scripture when it is not.
Are they being antichrists?
And when you tell them and they say, "who made you a prophet", then it's time to prepare for chastisement right out of the church.

So we must know what we are saying and to whom.

Those who do not keep before them in remembrance what they began in.
In fact, if what they began in is what they should have begun in, they would not "go out"

I understand there to be two types of anti-Christ in the N.T.

One is THE Anti-Christ, the person who will appear at the end of our age and at the beginning of the tribulation, or end times.

The N.T. also speaks of anti-Christs- which is different.

This can clearly be seen in 1 John 2:18 which speaks of both.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the anti christ is coming, even now many anti christs have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.

So, THE anti-Christ would be the son of perdition spoken of in 2 Thessalonians 2:3. Some bibles have the son of lawlessness. Perdition means total destruction. The son of total destruction.

But John speaks of anti-Christs that have already come. Another name for these anti Christs is false teachers.

In Greek anti Christ means against The Annointed One. Against Christ.
"False" comes from Latin and means to deceive.

So these anti Christs, or false teachers, will CLAIM to be Christian and to teach the word of God, but they will teach false doctrine and will lead people away from the truth.

2 Timothy 4:3 speaks to this:
[SUP]3 [/SUP]For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. [SUP]4 [/SUP]They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

These anti Christs, or false teachers, will come teaching a different Jesus or a doctrine that has no basis at all in the N.T. scriptures.

And people, having itchy ears and wanting to hear what they desire to hear and not the truth, will welcome these false teachers and will learn something from them but it will certainly not be Christianity.

I personally know of two persons, both involved in high positions in a church, that have different and heretical teachings that they pass on to members of that church.

One believes that the saved person will go to heaven. The unsaved person will just disappear after death. This is called annihilation. Many like this teaching and have happily accepted it - thus being able to do what one will since the end result is either heaven or Nothing!

The other believes that, in the end, we will all be saved because God is good.

It would be interesting to know what you mean by:

I think that if they teach that one must be born again it's a good start.
But the preaching and teaching has to be in line with N.T. teachings.
Otherwise, yes, they are anti Christs - against Christ - or false teachers leading people astray.

Well.....it certainly didn't take long for the true gospel to be watered down. By the time that Paul went back again to Jerusalem - the gospel was watered down severely. James said that there were "thousands " of believing Jews that were zealous for the law.

Acts 21:20 (NASB)
[SUP]20 [/SUP] And when they heard it they began glorifying God; and they said to him, "You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed, and they are all zealous for the Law;

I do believe the prosperity gospel is a false gospel.
Not because I believe God is against prosperity or that Christians cannot be financially stable.

But Jesus came down to this earth to teach about the Kingdom of God. To teach how to live and have a peaceful life and share it with others. To offer help in our times of distress, and to be near us with help.

I believe the prosperity gospel puts people under pressure to succeed and this takes their eyes off the Lord. And if they don't succeed, they're told they're in sin or that they're doing something wrong.

Jesus told the Rich Young Man to go and sell everything and follow Him. Not because it's wrong to have material things, but because they cannot usurp our love for God. The young man left and sadly walked away. He preferred his riches to Jesus. Jesus and the PURSUIT of riches is conflicting in its very nature.

Yes, so it should not be surprising that many antichrists are out and about today.
Now, if we know who they are and can show why they are false, should we be naming them to warn others?
This would surely cause problems among us, don't you think?
What should we do?
 
We really cannot know at this point who he is, but we can know the Church he will be using will be the Catholic Church. Just look at how the Catholic Church has made Mary out to be a god.

Mary is not a god in the Catholic church. Jesus is God.
This thread is not really about THE anti Christ, although he'll be showing up too. And maybe pretty soon.
I dare say that the anti Christ will not be coming out of Rome.
Try the Middle East, maybe Mecca, maybe a country North of Israel.

Mary would be one of the false teachings the O.P. is speaking about.
The problem with this is that it is NOT taught that Mary is to be prayed TO. Many in the CC do not understand their religion very well.

IF Mary is ever declared, officially - and not by those not knowing Catholic doctrine - to be a co-redemptrix then, yes, we have heresy and serious heresy.
