I certainly can't say that sin is right.

But I guess in some ways, I also think of the Pharisees... Jesus told them that a doctor is sent to the ones who are sick, not the ones who are already well... And because the Pharisees believed they were pretty healthy compared to everyone else, they freely judged everyone without compassion or empathy.

This is NOT saying that a person has to sin to show compassion... but I also think of the "sinful woman" who anointed Jesus' feet, and the fact that He again told the religious leaders that because her many sins had been forgiven, she loved much, while they felt they had little, to nothing, in their lives that needed forgiveness.

Again, this is NOT to say that the ones with the most mistakes are somehow better!!! But... it's just a thought I wrestle with--how can I be so sorry for the things I've done wrong when they've made me who I am... I also know that I generally, not always, but generally, feel the most comfortable with those who've also made a lot of mistakes. The funny thing is though, because I was never into the party scene myself, people have said they see me as a Pharisitical-type person, so I've been on both sides.

I also agree with Pop--though I'm sure God doesn't want me to be involved in sinful things to know about them, He generally only leads me to contribute to conversations or situations in which I have some kind of experience or empathy... otherwise, I just try to listen/read.

Where would I be without my mistakes? Well, theologically speaking, I wouldn't be on earth. We've all sinned and come short of the glory of God, so without my sins/mistakes, I wouldn't be alive.

Sin, and the recovery from it, has made me who I am. To be completely honest, when I reflect on my past, I also miss some aspects of it. To be blunt, sometimes I miss it more than I should. Does this mean I'm going to go back to it? No, I can't. It's like a saved video game. Now that I'm on a specific level, I can go back, but my character will have the knowledge and experience of the last level saved.

I continue to make mistakes. All the time, sometimes the same ones over and over. Even Paul said that he wants to do good, but he keeps doing the stuff he doesn't want to do. A few weeks ago I was agonizing over not wanting to make any more mistakes, and I prayed about it. I prayed a lot about it, actually. I finally realized that mistakes were inevitable when the Lord said to me, "What if I need you to make more mistakes?". I am not saying that God condones sin, or anything remotely like that, so all y'all who were gonna comment in that vein, hands off the keyboard! What I am saying is that we're connected. I'm in your life. Yes, you... and you're in mine. We affect each other. We acknowledge each other, validate each other, and we have the ability to minister to one another. If my mistakes can help someone, then they were worth it.

I don't know, I'm not done making them yet .. And tomorrow I'll be somebody different too :)
