Because it is!!!!!! At least in their eyes. Even if it's an old beat up heap, it is something that they have poured their blood, sweat and tears into maintaining, improving, customizing. They have hopes and dreams for future improvements.
Think of it this way. A woman could have the ugliest, stupidest kid alive, yet she would still love and brag about him (or her) every opportunity she got. Yes, I know, it's an imperfect analogy comparing an object to a human, but it's the best I could do short notice.

Hey, I own a chevy, and it's a truck, like a 2002 model. And oh yeah, it gets at least 25 MPG. And guess what, I'm going to heaven. So THERE.

Ego, but try thinking about it this way. Like Oncefallen said a guy puts allot of time and money into HIS truck...his man-mobile sort of to speak. You get attached to your man-mobile, much more so if you modify it, and actually make it your own, so of course it HAS to be the best truck on the planet. Women aren't as emotional so they don't get attached to vehicles I guess.

Do you want to know why Ford owners are sO jealous of Chevy owners? Cause they know that Fords aren't built to last but Chevy's are.
But seriously, I would not ever want a Ford because I've had way to much trouble with them. However with Chevy's not so much as long as I tale care of them properly.
