Will the Quote Feature Ever be Restored

The forum used to use that mark-down language for quotes.

Now, it has a terrible interface where it replies can easily be put in quote boxes, and it is difficult to properly handle quotes. Was this a 'downdate' in a software (a falsely named update that actually destroys useful functionality)?

Will the previous useful quote functionality ever be properly restored?

Hard to say. I miss all of the reaction icons too. Now there are only a few. Seems that every update messes things up. I agree with you about the quotes. Very awkward.

I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding, but do you mean, how can we now break down one quote into its components if we want to answer a post point-by-point?

For this quote, I hit Reply 3 separate times (so it copied your post 3 times,) then I just used Backspace and Delete to pare it down to only the point I wanted to show in each box, even though it was all from the same post.

If you want to answer each box separately, you can create space in between the boxes to answer.

Thanks for the tip. It is quite time consuming compared to the old method. I cut and paste messages into a notepad on my computer, then cut and paste over the whole message, but it doesn't enable tracking back to what message I am replying to, I assume.

Maybe hit the reply button to make the quote, then on your notepad type what you want to say and cut/ paste it under the quote?

In that case, I just highlighted the quoted portion of your text and a little button popped up saying "reply" which I clicked, which allowed me only to quote/reply to the highlighted section.

That is a fascinating observation that I just tried and it worked great.

The act of observing is almost as fascinating as the observation itself. It is obvious how you made the observation, but I have never tried to highlight text so I never made it myself, and I can't imagine anything that might make me want to highlight text here.

If I've never mentioned it before, I sure am glad you hang out here.

I toggled the BB code.

And then copy/pasted the opening and closing quote tags where I wanted the breaks. This new platform
does not allow reformatting unless you toggle the BB code, either. Like, sometimes I reformat the quoted
post. But inserting a line break in the quoted section creates a new quote box which is not what I want at
all. So I toggle the BB code and then I can make breaks in the text without new quote boxes being made.
But that sounds like it may the solution some are seeking...
