BORN OF WATER CANNOT MEAN THE WOMB

"Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." John 3:5

The claim that “born of water” means natural birth, womb water, or a mother’s water breaking does not compute when you simply read the whole passage for what it says.

Jesus was not teaching Nicodemus how to be born naturally. Nicodemus had already been born naturally. That was not his problem. His problem was that he was a religious ruler of the Jews who still needed a birth from above.

"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3

Nicodemus misunderstood Jesus and thought in natural terms.

"Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? " John 3:4

Jesus did not agree with Nicodemus natural birth misunderstanding. He corrected it.

"Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." John 3:5

Then Jesus made the distinction clear. "That which is born of the flesh is fleash; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." John 3:6

Natural birth is “born of the flesh.” Jesus already identified it. If “born of water” meant natural birth, then Jesus would be saying, Except a man be naturally born and spiritually born. But every living man has already been naturally born. That would make the first condition meaningless.

No one needs to be told they must be born from their mother to enter the Kingdom. They must be told they need a new birth.

"Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." John 3:7 The issue in John 3 is not first birth. It is new birth.

The womb interpretation also fails because Jesus said “born of water and of the Spirit” is necessary to enter the Kingdom of God. Natural birth gets a person into the world. It does not get a person into the Kingdom.

"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." John 1:12-13

John already told us this birth is not natural lineage, bloodline, flesh, or human will. It is of God.
That alone destroys the womb water doctrine.

Jesus was speaking to Nicodemus, a master of Israel. "Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?" John 3:10

Jesus expected Nicodemus to understand this from the Scriptures. What Scriptures would Nicodemus know? Not biology. Not a mother’s water breaking. He should have known the prophetic promise of cleansing water and a new Spirit.

And you must catch this:

Ezekiel 36:25-27 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put MY spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

That is water and Spirit
Not womb and Spirit
Not ambiotic fluid and Spirit
Not natrual birth and Spirit
Water for cleansing, and Spirit for inward renewal

This is why John the Baptist's ministry was connected to water and repentance before Jesus spoke to Nicodemus.

Matthew 3:1-2 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, And saying, 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐲𝐞: 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝.
Matthew 3:5-6 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐉𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐧, confessing their sins.
Mark 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐬.
Luke 3:3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐬.
John 1:31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐦 𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫.

So when John’s Gospel reaches chapter 3, water is already connected to baptism, repentance, cleansing, and preparation for the Kingdom. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐮𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 “𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫” 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫’𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐛 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫.

Even more, the very next chapter context continues with water baptism.

John 3:22-23 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞. And John also was 𝐛𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧g 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐧 near to Salim, 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞: and they came, and were baptized.

John 4:1-2 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples.

The context around John 3 is water baptism, not childbirth.

John 3:5 says water
John 𝟑:𝟐𝟑 says much water

To force “water” in John 3:5 to mean womb water, while the surrounding context speaks of baptism, is not Bible interpretation. It is denomination escape.

Jesus later connected salvation, discipleship, and baptism in the Great Commission:
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you." Matthew 28:19-20

Jesus was comparing the flesh with the spirit. The reference to water and wombs is part of the flesh comparison - these do not save. What does save is being born again by the Holy Spirit, by believing on Jesus Christ. Scripture should be read with scripture - see below for a clear reference where baptism is separate from salvation.

Acts 19:2 - 7
He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
And all the men were about twelve.

Yes, where WATER baptism is separate.
Spirit baptism IS salvation.

Water baptism in the name of Jesus is an essential element of salvation. The scripture you reference reveals this as well as Acts 2:4-40, 8:12-18, and 10:43-48. That both water baptism and receiving the Holy Spirit are involved in all of the conversion accounts is not a coincidence. It is confirmation of the water and Spirit Jesus was referring to in John 3.

Again, Jesus said Nicodemus should have understood this: "...Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?" John 3:10

Clearly, Nicodemus should have known the prophetic promise of cleansing water and a new Spirit.

Ezekiel 36:25-27 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you." How does this apply to NT Water Baptism? It washes away sin. (Acts 2:38, 22:16)

"A new heart ALSO will I give you and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. AND I WILL PUT MY SPIRIT WITHIN YOU and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them."

Nicodemus is not the only one that should have been aware of the OT prophecy that pointed to the NT rebirth. The same is true of every believer in the NT era. It is the inspired Word of God in its entirety that reveals the truth. (2 Tim 2:15, 3:16-17) Keep in mind what Jesus said, the Word is what all will be judged by. (John 12:48)

Yes, where WATER baptism is separate.
Spirit baptism IS salvation.
I really wonder whether you even bother to read the points referenced within a post.

Clearly, as a master of Israel, Nicodemus should have have been familiar with the OT prophetic promise of a future cleansing with water and receiving God's Spirit.

Ezekiel 36:25-27 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you." (How does this apply to NT Water Baptism? According to scripture, it is when sin is washed away. (Acts 2:38, 22:16))

Sure it can - and, it does...

You are improperly mixing contexts from various passages of scripture.

Consider:

John 3:

1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Jesus answers the question that Nicodemus asked Him directly.

One of the reasons for the necessity of both 'water' and 'spirit' is that it makes angels ineligible.

The lengths people are willing to go through to dodge water baptism is hilarious.
There are simply no unbaptized Christians in the new testament, not a single one. Every account of conversion includes an immediate water baptism, not a catechumen period of a year, or a month or even a week.

IF you aren't water baptized already stop debating if its necessary for salvation and do it, that is the great commission.

As one who was WB by a Baptist church and whose wife and kids were also WB, our understanding was/is that WB is an optional but recommended/appropriate rite which symbolizes the necessary/essential faith in Jesus as Messiah/Savior/Lord aka SB--and there are more good/Scriptural reasons for this understanding than for viewing WB as required/salvific/sacramental, beginning with the truth that WB is a work comparable to physical circumcision (PC), which Paul clearly taught was not necessary for Christians, but rather it is faith or spiritual circumcision that is essential (Rom. 2:28-29)--and we are saved via faith, not works, although loving/godly works will follow faith (Eph. 2:8-10, Rom. 5:5, Gal. 5:22-23).

Scripture has the ability to cleanse error concerning one's understanding when people accept what it reveals. And it reveals the purpose of water baptism is to remit sin:

John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Mark 1:4

And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins; Luke 3:3

Prophesy concerning the NT water baptism in the name of Jesus that Peter presented at Pentecost: "And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Luke 24:47

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins... Acts 2:38

To say Paul taught that water baptism was not necessary is simply not true. Especially since scripture records Ananias telling Paul what he had to do and why: Why tarriest (wait) thou, arise and be baptized and wash away thy sin calling upon the name of the Lord. Acts 22:16

Also, the last detailed conversion account reveals Paul was still teaching water baptism in the name of Jesus some 20+ years after Pentecost.

The scriptures you reference do not negate the need to be water baptized in the name of Jesus for remission of sin. Scripture is the final authority not one's personal understanding if it does not line up with that truth.

Those who believe and act in accordance to God's Word are saved THROUGH faith. No boasting, just obedience.

You know when a seed passes from a man into a women? It's like the priest Levites going into the Holy of Holies. When the seed is ready and comes out as a witness it is born of the water/washed.

The seed is on a tabernacle/Ark as it's passover from the male to the female.
You are my witnesses saith the Lord.
Adam created in the image of the water, and Eve in the image of the blood.
When the seed passes over it is on the mercy seat as an offering unto the Lord. The seed is THE SEED.Jesus brings all things unto himself. In his image we are created.
Being born of the water is liken to our natural birth. But to be born of the Spirit, that comes though by spirit, water, blood.

I been saying this quite often. The reason it's like this is because the word created you.Within our dna is the word of God which then manifested outwardly. Our bodies literally function through the word.
Our dna is like a code, and the code is the word of God.
Man=water/OT
woman=blood/NT.
It is the spirit that testifies.

When you look at the double helix it looks like ark,a staff,a scroll,2 stone tablets. The word manifested these things for all to see as a witness.

@Lifted_by_the_word . I absolutely loved your post. You may be the first person I have seen that understands what the Day of Atonement is all about. Seed/DNA/Word. You got it.

I just wanted to give my opinion on this quote:

Being born of the water is liken to our natural birth.

You of all people may understand what 'waters' is actually symbolic of. Look up the word 'mayim'.

Look at definition number three. It is euphemism for male seed. That is what 'born of water' means in John 3:5.

In other words, we all must be born of Abraham's Seed in addition to the Spirit.

Look deeper at the clues:

Ezekiel 1:24 - And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings.

Do you see it? The 'waters' is the Voice, Speech, Word of God.

But to be born of the Spirit, that comes though by spirit, water, blood.

You are so close!

Look:

1 John 5:6 - This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

Jesus came by the Seed of God. By the Word of God. He came by Water/Mayim definition #3. Get it?

The 'Waters', i.e., the Word was made flesh:

John 1:14 - And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Keep exegeting how waters and word are associated with each other:

Ephesians 5:26 - That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

Rain and snow as the Word of God:

Isaiah 55:10-11 - For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Yes, it's DNA:

Within our dna is the word of God

You pretty much solved the riddle here...

Man=water/OT
woman=blood/NT.

Waters = Male Seed/DNA
Blood = Female Seed/DNA

Vine = DNA in the Blood...

Ezekiel 19:10 - Thy mother is like a vine in thy blood, planted by the waters: she was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.

It's all there.

When you look at the double helix it looks like ark,a staff,a scroll,2 stone tablets. The word manifested these things for all to see as a witness.

Yep. And...

Serpent on a Pole = RNA.

The Crucifix = Chromosome.

The world has yet to wake up to all of this.

Keep going with your exegesis.

Do you really want to understand 'waters'? Listen to the Word of God:

Revelation 17:15 - And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

Why is 'waters' synonymous with 'peoples, multitudes, nations and tongues'???

It's not amniotic fluid!

Mayim... definition #3 male seed. There is Abraham's Seed, then there is the other...

So sprinkling is how baptism is supposed to be performed, according to the referenced Ezek 36:25, yes?

Be careful not to combine/conflate/confuse different contexts of different passages that use similar words or general ideas.

New Testament water baptism - by definition - is [only] by immersion into water. Study the greek words actually used in scripture.

Various forms of the word 'baptize' do have different meanings in the greek language; however, some are in the Bible and some are not.

Then Ezek 36:25 is speaking of some other means of cleansing.

Focusing on the physical water was the primitive OT understanding of cleansing,
but Paul taught folks to realize that what matters is faith in the atonement of Christ per God's NC (Rom. 3:21-5:10, Col. 2:9-23).
Acts 22:16 merely recounts what occurred when Paul was converted some 2- years after Pentecost.
