Can someone maybe explain the two different sides? For clueless people like me!
Hey Taelin, Conservative Christians follow the pattern (tupos) set up by the original Apostles to be followed in the church. Of course being conservative or liberal is not eithor/or. There are certainly levels or degrees of conservatism/liberalism. A hard line conservative would be expected to:
1. Be baptised by immersion.
2. His church would be self autonomous.
3. The Lord's supper would be at regular frequencies, at least once a week on the Lord's day.
4. The Lord's supper would use the fruit of the vine, either grape juice or wine.
5. The elders in the church would be the authoritative body and would meet the qualifications set forth in Paul's letters to Timothy, recognizing always that Christ is the head of the church.
6. Worship singing would be a capella.
7. Church members would definitely believe in Sola Scriptura (Bible) as the infallable, indisputable, word of God.
8. Church members would believe in the unity of faith.
9. Church members would believe in the New Covenant between God and each individual member of Christ's church as disctinct from the Old Covenant that existed between God and the Jewish Nation.
10. Church members would believe in individual responsibility for sins and a personal relationship with God that needs no intermediaries.
11. The work of the church would include all of the following:
a. evangelism, i.e. The Great Commission
b. edification
c. relief for those in need
d. discipline and restitution
Note: The above is for religious purposes and has no bearing on politics, which is another issue altogether.
