I did, and he turned out to be the best husband and father too. As long as he is born again and wants the same thing!

To me best friends are siblings. I don't want to marry my brother lol
My best friend isn't a Christian either.

I have several people I consider to be best friends, but perhaps one of my closest friends is a guy I've known since the first day of my freshman year of college. He's wonderful. We do everything together, know everything about each other, and have seen one another at our absolute best and worst.
However, I would never even consider dating him. He is very much the opposite of the kind of guy I'm attracted to and I'm the same for him. There has never been any type of attraction in this relationship and I like it that way.
Aside from that, he's dating my roommate. :) Plus, if we dated we'd probably kill each other.
People always ask if we're together and have a hard time believing that there's nothing more to our relationship. We are a living example of a completely platonic male/female friendship. It can be done!

I disagree, completely. IF you are talkative, friendly, and, you said word, 'confidants,' orac, that, to me, is a pretty good definition of being best friends, and, girl.knowledge 'bathroom' giggly stuff is not of concern regarding criteria for being a best friend, there is much deeper issues that qualify best friends than triviality commonality stuff. I think putting God first is best and then everything, else will.work out perfectly as you remember to love others, including your spouse, who God will faithfully bring more and more intimate relationship.between you that, based in God, I think, is the ideal consummation definition of a best friend, and, the talking of making babies and girl talk stuff is no necessary for guy and gal to become best friends and then bester and bester friends as the Lord leads, which is bestest, perfectest, rather, well, Ok, His leading two who are one one will be most perfect . :)

And, most best :D

I'm doing that right now. It's going great. There may even be wedding bells and a baby in the future. :)
 
I thought the best relationships start off as friendships? Me confused. I don't understand all these I wouldn't marry my best friend comments.

if it's a friendly date, why not...my bff [girl], we somehow go for a date, a friendly date, just the two of us, talking about school, family and sometimes personal things

BUT

a romantic date, i don't think so...
 
Whether the guy starts out being my best friend is beside the point, because he will eventually become my best friend and then I will marry him. Haha...if he asks me. But anyway, once you are married, I definitely hope that your spouse is now your very best friend.

I've had a handful of close lady friends over the years, and have proceeded into relationships with a couple of them. There were definite advantages since we already knew each other and had long since aired out the "dirty laundry" of our pasts so there were no surprises or awkward conversations to be had. The only reason those relationships didn't work out were that some people are great at friendship and not relationship. Both ladies had some serious unhealed wounds from prior relationships that only became apparent in a relationship.
 
I think part of it too is that when someone is your friend, it's okay if they are a lot like you. But when it comes to developing a "become one" type relationship with someone, it takes more than that. The two halves of the whole have to compliment one another rather than be more alike. It matters. Sometimes we be blessed enough to find both though.
 
oracle2world, how do you define friendship? I define friendship as having someone to talk to about anything, who I care about deeply (in fat, love), and who I could go to whenever I'm having difficulties in this life. Of course, there is more to friendship, but essentially that's how I view it. I could not imagine marrying someone who does not fit that description.
 
Haha....I'm obviously new to this. I'm replying to someone on the first page. Anyway, my opinion stands.
