Whaat, you didn't taste one even as a kid?I would want to try. This is something I am actually very curious about. Over the past month, I have been considering learning how to use them in cooking. However, I am unsure when they should be harvested for the best flavor or which dishes they are best suited for. If you have experience using them, please share your advice!![]()
But I was going to say juniper berries are good with meat, that is what first came to my mind... buuut, for you I don't think that is so much of a help. So, for fish and for cabbage dishes too it goes well. I haven't used it that much, mostly just eaten one from a tree every other year or so. And I have only picked the "ripe" berries that are almost black. My mum uses those to sauerkraut.
You can check more from this finnish site, there are suggestions what those berries go with well:
Katajanmarja
..and just taste the plain berry from a tree
