That's odd because I see many of them and see them in their historical context. Self-defense was practiced by early Christians. Revenge; however, was not (especially against one's Christian "brothers" and "sisters"). Bravely standing against government tyranny without resorting to violent revolution was another hallmark of early Christians.

In their ignorance, people often confuse these realities as you have done.

Thank you for answer... do you have some christian writings or sources from New testament where I can see that? Where christians fought with weapons to defend their faith/lives against Jews or Romans.

No it's healthy. More, MORE, MORE!

Lolol...

Here's a favorite posthuman. One of my neighbors had 1,200 guns and 2 tons of ammo in his house. He claimed to be a secret CIA operative working for vice president Joe Biden on special assignment: More Than 1,200 Guns, 2 Tons of Ammo Found at Upscale SoCal Home | NBC Southern California

The fatso died of a massive heart attack in his car eating a hamburger with cheese in his car on the street. Now I'm all for free access to firearms and the second amendment to the Constitution of the United States but this guy should have sold about nine-tenths of his guns and ammo and bought a Richard Simmons membership.

i have a friend who built an addition onto his house because there wasn't enough room for all the automatic rifles he owns anymore. :p

I want to ask, is there any verse in the bible that says having a gun is sinful? Christ said living by the sword is wrong, but just because you own a sword, are you living by it?

Guns are not just used to kill people, they are also used to hunt with, and God is okay with hunting :p

Murder is a sin, but I dont see how owing a gun is? I dont personally think its sinful to have a gun :p

i hope not, because i own one too!
as far as i'm aware, no.

i don't have a problem with guns, or with reasonable gun control.

it's people who are unreasonably obsessed with guns, and unreasonable restriction that's problematic.
unreasonable obsession is for sure a reality. unreasonable restriction, not so surely.
i don't like owning a weapon. probably i purposefully dislike it, just to cope with my internal conflict over it. it's a little like rolling up your car windows and locking the doors when you go into a store, in the summer - it makes the car uncomfortably hot, and i'd rather not do it -- but there's a good chance i'd be sorry if i didn't.

BTW, how do you know God is OK with hunting (killing animals)?
I mean hunting in "free time", not hunting becuase somebody needs to eat.

I sure do and I've shared them in a number of lengthy posts on this forum which can use the search feature to pull up and read.

"Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked." -Proverbs 25:26

As the eminent Biblical scholar and theologian Gleason L. Archer PhD wrote in the Encyclopedia of Bible Difficulties:

"How could God be called 'good' if He forbade His people to protect their wives from ravishment and strangulation by drunken marauders, or to resist invaders who have come to pick up their children and dash out their brains against the wall? No policy would give freer rein to wickedness and crime than a complete surrender of the right of self-defense on the part of the law-abiding members of society.

No more effective way of promoting the cause of Satan and the powers of hell could be devised than depriving law-abiding citizens of all right of self-defense. It is hard to imagine how any deity could be thought 'good' who would ordain such a policy of supine surrender to evil as that advocated by pacifism.

All possibility of an ordered society would be removed on the abolition of any sort of police force. No nation could retain its liberty or preserve the lives of its citizens if it were prevented from maintaining any sort of army for its defense. It is therefore incumbent on a 'good God' to include the right of self-defense as the prerogative of His people. He would not be good at all if He were to turn the world over to the horrors of unbridled cruelty perpetrated by violent and bloody criminals or the unchecked aggression of invading armies.

Not only is a proper and responsible policy of self-defense taught by Scripture from Genesis to Revelation, but there were occasions when God even commissioned His people to carry out judgment on corrupt and degenerate heathen nations and the complete extermination of cities like Jericho (cf. the article on "Was Joshua justified in exterminating the population of Jericho?" in connection with Joshua 6:21). The rules of war laid down in Deuteronomy 20 represented a control of justice, fairness, and kindness in the use of the sword, and, as such, they truly did reflect the goodness of God."

Though I won't be going into great detail right now friend as I'm working on a couple of other issues at the moment, self-defense against evil is legitimized in both scripture and natural law.

For example, though we don't know if Jesus owned a sword or not, we do know that he took assertive action on more than one occasion that included driving all of the money changers and their livestock from the temple with a whip of cords overturning their tables and spilling their coin onto the ground as He did so (John 2:15) to speaking with the supernatural power of God while being arrested in a manner which so overwhelmed the soldiers that they swayed backward and fell to the ground (John 18:6).

The latter accomplished several things but primarily it created a situation in which the soldiers were so put off by this demonstration of supernatural power that His disciples could leave the garden unharmed with their weapons in hand to use in legitimate self-defense against highway men, etc... if the need arose (and maybe it did) as Jesus was now physically separating from them to fulfill his prophesied cosmic mission at Golgotha.

I recommend you read 'A Time to Kill: The Myth of Christian Pacifism' by Justice Greg Hopkins.

I would agree with collecting piles of guns, and thats kinda biblical too. "Do not collect your treasures on earth, but in Heaven". Im not a big fan of having tons of weapons either :p

i know i can't do it, and personally i can't stand to even hear about it.
i'd rather put my car in a ditch than hit a raccoon in the road -- much less go out and kill an animal for nothing but sport!
to my conscious, it's murder. but i'm some kind of hippy, so take that with however much salt.

some people do hunt to survive. i can't fault that. that's natural order. we institutionalize the same thing in developed countries. God's given us this for our food, and we should be thankful.
but there's no small amount of irony in people who spend thousands of dollars on weapons, 4-wheelers, oversized trucks to tote their four-wheelers around, clothing and gear, and then take weeks off of work at a time -- all to bring home $100 worth of meat, while at the same time meat at grocery stores and restaurants goes to waste because it isn't sold before it rots.

I believe that killing animals was covered by God when He commanded that we do not kill.

Please do not imply that I believe in killing animals for fun, I would be pretty grumpy if I was suddenly attacked for killing animals :/ I have many many pets and am a supporter on humane treatment for animals.

yes

the word in the command is actually "do not murder" - not the same as "kill" - i'm not so loopy that i wouldn't shoot a coyote that was threatening me, poison a fire-ant hill on my property, or swat a mosquito. i'd even shoot a neighbor's dog if it was attacking my cats, if i didn't think i could run it off some other way. & obviously act to protect my human family.
but going out of my way to kill something that's no harm to me or mine is different

Exactly. And also, as you say, we are to be responsible with the earth's resources. Not hard to see we really are not in this day and age.

Yes, I can understand killing animals when you need it. I cant understand when christian LIKES it and its FUN for him to kill some living creature. It certainly is not from Christ.

So only cleaning the temple and falling down of the guards? Not very solid, I would say. See the preaching on the mountain. See the acts of apostles and first church - absolutelly no violence, even no defence.

Posthuman..your intent is noted..however...Mental illness is the real culprit behind most shootings, especially the mass shootings in theaters, malls, schools, and public places. You would be shocked that guns constitute a very small numeric amount of being the weapons of choice when a mentally insane, demonically inspired killer intends harm to others. Should we band rocks, bottles, ropes, chains, matches, rat poisoning and a heavy leaded foot, that are used daily to murder people?

Jesus said ... "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.

1 Timothy 5:8 ... But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

Brother only godless Socialists, Communists and Fascists think it is cool to not have the means to defend your loved ones when/if "the evil day" comes to your household.

Hitler, Stalin, Mao Tse Dong, Mugabe, Obama ... all have one thing in common ... Gun Control and the desire to rule as Tyrants over a disarmed populace.

Any Christian who argues in favor of disarming fellow Christians is disregarding the evidence of history.

Show them the FBI statistics regarding death and morbidity in the USA ... you have more chance of dying from bee sting then death by gunshot wound.

The only category in which death by gunshot has risen since 1990 is in "gun free zones" ... imagine that.

I pray God raise up men with back bones and the desire to defend their households and stop acting like infidels in the face of godless tyranny.

Cheers Steve

"Absolutely no violence" ... curious as to what form of robust Christianity George Washington practiced!

"Jellyfish" Christianity is more akin to Socialism ...

Jesus commanded His diciples ... "go buy a sword"

It is not recorded what the Disciple thought of such a "radical" concept ... perhaps they run off to consult The Southern Poverty Law Centre for advice.

Maybe they tuned into the ABCNBCCNN disinfo talking heads to hear how bad swords are and that only Roman authority can own them.

1 Timothy 5:8 KJV: But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

An unarmed Christian is worse than an infidel ... hmmm ... maybe you will prevent evil visiting upon your loved ones by a hug and a witty comment?

Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Obama ... lock step on disarming Christians ... which side are you on?
