Do you think that a worship team is even needed?
Aaaaaah. There is much grinding of axes here.

I'm out. If you want to argue that we should not have organized singing groups in church, I don't want to have any part of that debate.

Not looking to enter a contentious argument or debate - there is far to much of that on this site and frankly it is not my style which is why I seldom post except in the "funny" thread. I was/am looking for a civil discussion. If you don't want to join that's ok by me.

When we were about thirteen, our Sunday School class went caroling. It wasn't my first trip with them, but it was my last. My thirteen year old musician cousin (piano master and superb vocalist), while we were singing "Away in a Manger", turned to me and put her finger over her lips, and said "you're ruining the melody!" So much for "make a joyful noise". It was a harsh, but valuable lesson. I put a lid on my bucket, and learned to enjoy listening to music.

If you have someone who believes he can sing, but can't, hand him a microphone, and record him singing his favorite song. Sit with him in the sanctuary and play his song for him. Ask him what he thinks.
Your experience was unfortunate, but I like your suggestion. :)

How does one audition for a life lived in reverence to the Lord?
Clothing is most important: Christ's robes of righteousness .:D

Isaiah 61:10

I will rejoice greatly in the Lord,
My soul will exult in my God;
For He has clothed me with garments of salvation,
He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

I found this on a local churches web site. What are your thoughts?
That is people making the cut, not God. Yet using God to get plaudits and popularity, to bring in mo money. Yet saying to save people. Discernment comes from God, who lives in his children, by one’s continued belief, Jesus took away sin First. Then is risen where Father gives new life in his children in God’s spirit and truth Joh 4:23-24.

Worship is a life of reverence for and fear of the Lord. It may or may not include musical instruments and singing.

Many of the old-guard or many who make their living off of "traditional" (but not Biblical) church function will say "Well, worship is understood to be singing so don't make a big deal about it." These are the same people whom God has passed by. This is not a statement about their salvation but one of grace and empowerment. God is not building with them any more. They may have large congregations (you know, just like Tony Robbins) but it is not because of the Lord.

I have come to understand that obedience is the foundation upon which praise and worship is built.

+1 on the remainder of your post. Is was the Father that said "I will rebuild the tabernacle of David." While men may be used in this it is GOD that does it.

That tabernacle will become the Millennial temple. See Ezekiel. But the true tabernacle is presently in Heaven.

Well, here's my 2 cents.
WHY would I want people on stage to lead worship that has no spiritual qualifications?
WHY would I want people who sound perfect to lead worship that are nothing near perfect with a commitment to Christ?
One of the reasons worship is hindered is because the ones leading don't really know how to worship God. They've become too focused on the likes of Hillsong & other "professional" worship groups that have a spirit leading them to sing about themselves & who they claim to be.
I would rather have some shrills & off key singers that would let the Holy Spirit lead them than perfectionists onstage competing for BMOC!
There's a difference between anointed & exciting, & I'll take anointed any day. I hope you do too.
Well, I'm done.... for now.:)

+1 on all points especially your last sentence.

In the 70's the phrase "invisible worship leader" was used. I have other posts that address this. There seems to be a movement back to Spirit led true spiritual worship which is different from praise. I wonder if todays worship leaders know that difference.

Remember the woman at the well and Jesus' words to her - The Father those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. worship not praise.

The Father those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. worship not praise.
While I agree with you about "worship leaders" elc (which is not according to the NT) if you read the Psalms, praise and worship go together.

So why are churches not singing the Psalms (which were all sung and set to musical instruments)? Many of the Psalms have already been set to music, but a lot of churches have abandoned "psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs" and started singing repetitive words which have little or no biblical content. For example "Amazing Grace" has been replaced by "This is Amazing Grace" and here are the lyrics (partially):

Who breaks the power of sin and darkness?
Whose love is mighty and so much stronger? [So much stronger than what?]
The King of glory, the King above all kings
Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder?
And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder?
The King of glory, the King above all kings
This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross...

Let's focus on that last line. Did Christ "bear MY cross" or did He bear His own cross? And did he command us to bear our "crosses" or did he say He would bear them? So even the theology is all twisted. Now compare this to the actual hymn "Amazing Grace".

God did what was needed for us the people by Son who willingly did it once for everyone to believe God and be accepted by God, along with forgiveness. For us to be thankful in
Take a look at a person that has two children. Gets told only one gets to live, the other has to die.
Which one would you choose?
Would you say, no, choose me instead?
Now you might see what Jesus did, yet with many more people, not just two kids, many
I think you do already as you are like me growing in grace as new daily too
