Hi Friends,

Do you know the origin of the two great commandments spoken by Jesus in Matthew 22 that all the law and the prophets hang on?

36, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37, Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38, This is the first and great commandment. 39, And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40, On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Jesus was quoting from the old testament summing up God's Law....Love to God....

Deuteronomy 6:5-8
5, And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6, And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7, And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shall talk of them when thou sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when thou rises up. 8, And you shall bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as front lets between thine eyes.
Love to neighbor.......

Leviticus 19:2-18

Do you have any Scriptural grounds to prove that when Jesus uses or apostles use the word "commandments" they refer only to the 10 commandments and not the 613 of the Torah in totality?

It is not me that is making any distinctions between God's Law (10 commandments) and the laws of Moses. The question we need to ask is; Does God's Word make the distinction between God's Law and the laws of Moses?

A few honest questions may help. How many commandments in the 10 commandments given written and made and spoken by God himself? (613 or 10 see Exodus 20:1-17)

Was the making of the 10 commandments the work of God or man? (Exodus 32:16)

Hence the term God's Law because he is the sole writer, maker and owner of these Laws. They are the work of God which his Word says are forever (Exodus 20:1-17; Ecclesiastes 3:14)

In the Old Covenant there was two sets of laws; God's Law (10 commandments) which are forever and the laws of Moses that were temporary and shadows pointing to Jesus.

(1) God’s Law
(10 commandments) is the work of God alone written with His own finger on two tables of stone, spoken by God himself to His people and placed alone in the Ark of the Covenant. (Exodus 32:16; 31:18; Exodus 20:1-17; Deuteronomy 10:5) Points out sin because breaking God’s Law is sin (Isaiah 24:4; 1 John 3:4; James 2:11; Romans 3:20; 7:17; Ezekiel 18:20; Romans 6:23) God’s Law pointed out what sin was and the penalty of sin which is death. It was never a cure for sin and made nothing perfect in the Old Testament as well as in the New. It only gives a knowledge of what sin is and righteousness (right doing) (Romans 3:20; 1 John 3:4; Romans 6:23; Ps 119:172).

(2) The laws of Moses was the second set of laws and included all the civil, ceremonial, and ecclesiastical laws which were written by Moses in a book. These laws did not tell us what sin was this was the job of God’s Law, however the laws of Moses were the prescriptive cure for sin in the Old Covenant. These laws included all the Levitical and ceremonial laws, sacrificial burnt offerings for sin, annual festivals and earthly sanctuary services for sin. These laws were the cure for sin so the sinner could be made right with God through faith. These where all prophetic in nature, teaching the plan of salvation which pointing to Jesus as the true lamb of God and our great high priest and His Work on our behalf in the Heavenly Sanctuary. Much of the ceremonial laws were Shadows of things to come pointing to Jesus the lamb of God and the sinners true sacrifice (Leviticus 1; 3-12; 14-17; 22-23; Number 6-8; 15; 28-29; Deut 12; 33; Ex 25:8; John 1:29; 36; Rev 5:6; 1Cor 5:6-7; Heb 8:2-13; 9:1-28; Col 2:14-17)

From the above it can be seen that God’s Law was written on stone and the laws of Moses in a book. God’s Law is forever and only points out what sin is but was never a cure for sin (Rom 3:20; 1 John 3:4; Rom 6:23).

Now the next question would be if these laws were all the same why didn’t Moses just write all the laws? Why did God go to all the trouble to make the 10 commandments himself and speak them personally to his people?

The answer has already been provided with the scriptures above and that is "I know that, whatsoever God does, it shall be forever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him" (Ecclesiastes 3:14). It was God that made the 10 commandments and the scripture says it is forever. It is God's Law because he is the maker and sole owner of them. It is also the spoken Word of God by God himself Jesus says: Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away (Matthew 24:35). The reason God made the 10 commandments is that they are forever and the very standard of the Old Covenant, the New Covenant and the judgement to come.

So if God's Law (10 commandments) are forever what was nailed to the cross? These were the temporary laws of Moses that pointed to Jesus Colossians 2:14-17. There is too many scriptures showing God's Law (10 commandments) is the standard of the Old Covenant, the New Covenant and the Judgement to come. If you would like some of these scriptures please feel free to ask. Hope this helps.

What is sin?

1 John 3:4
Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

James 2:11
For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

Romans 3:20

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Romans 7:7
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

Sin is breaking God's Law (10 commandments)....

So now that is it clear that sin is the transgression of God's Law lets move on to the next question.

Is someone saved who is practicing unrepentant sin?

Hebrew 10:27-28

26, For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Hebrews 6:4-8

4, For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. 7, For the earth which drinks in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and brings forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: 8, But that which bears thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

1 John 3:3-10

9, Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Galatians 5:19-21

The 7th Day Sabbath is one of the 10 from God's Law (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it we commit sin which is the transgression of God's Law. In times of ignorance God winks at but now calls all men everywhere to repent because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.(Acts 17:30-31)

I hear some talk more of our nature and our weakness and what is impossible for us.

Let us rather talk of his nature and his strength and what is possible for Him.

Jesus gave us the Spirit and thus we become partakers of the divine nature. Think on that for a second, Divine nature, Christ in you.

Those who think we will continue in sin/breaking the law simply lack faith in Jesus.

My God is merciful, loving and powerful beyond imagination.

Many deny the Sabbath and bare the fruit of such denial. The Sabbath which is a memorial of creation speaks of the God who speaks and it is. But here I see people speak of our weakness and thus mute Gods power when he says be holy.

Many say they believe God created by his own word and power. But Their lives and words deny Gods power when it comes to salvation from sin and the Devil.

There are three types of people in the word today:

1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
1Co 2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
1Co 2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

The natural man is those who do not accept God at all.

The spiritual is those who have the Holy Spirit and the mind of Christ.

But most of what I hear here is neither of those two. Because there is another class of believer other than the Spiritual.

1Co 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
1Co 3:2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
1Co 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

The carnal man is the believer who is without victory over sin. These are the lukewarm Christians in Laodicea. or the foolish virgins in the parable of the 10 virgins. Or the people of Romans 7.

These Carnal are those who John speaks of in 1 John 1 who do not yet have fellowship with Jesus but do believe.

Guys its time to believe and move out of the carnal life into the Spiritual. This is not an attack this is an invitation from Jesus.

For he says:

Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

The Carnal Christian has left Jesus outside and only Jesus can give complete victory over sin. Jesus comes in to us via the Spirit:

Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

If you do not bare the fruit of the Spirit then you have not the fullness of the Spirit and are carnal. Luke 11 teaches how to have this gift and grow in it. Its not a once of thing its a daily need.

Once our lives are free of sin and full of Christ then it is true that we are Christians.

being 'set free' from and learning how to 'over-come', is a 'life-long-process' for many of US, -
really, it's our Spiritual Journey, from beginning to end, - odd, and precious at the same time...
that our Father allows us to share such intimate details, is a wonder, a real stairway to 'heaven'...

being 'set free' from and learning how to 'over-come', is a 'life-long-process' for many of US,-really, it's our Spiritual Journey, from beginning to end, - odd, and precious at the same time...
that our Father allows us to share such intimate details, is a wonder, a real stairway to 'heaven'...

The power to be free from the sins we know can only found in him who loves and know all. Growing in grace and love is for obedience to the faith. Today we may be free from sin through faith in him who loves us as we dwell in him and he in us. Without him we can do nothing because we are dependent on him to live. To be free from sin is to live by being transformed by the renewing of our minds as we seek him by faith because we cannot see. Only when we hear his voice (God's Word) we will not harden our hearts, but only he that shall endure unto the end (abiding in him), the same is saved from their sins and the penalty thereof. The mirror shows the way for the blind to see. Those that say they see cannot find the way because they have not looked into the mirror. If you look into the mirror you will find him who loves all and he will open the blind eyes to see, the deaf to hear and the lame to walk.

Hi all...Before I lay my head down for the night, I just want to say I LOVE God so much, I love my Lord Jesus Christ, and I love the Holy Spirit who guides me, watches over me, restores me, gives life to me, leads me on the narrow path, quenches my thirst, rebukes me, gives me strength, gives me the only Joy I need, feeds me, gets me out of pits, holds me, never leaves me, has me in the palm of His hand, never forgets about me, watches me as I sleep, is with me while I breath, is with me when I stop breathing, I LOVE the Lord my God, for without HIM I am nothing...xox...

Wonderful Rosemaryx! .... he says with an everlasting love have I loved you and with loving kindness have I drawn you. What a wonderful God who loves us so much that he gives his life for all who listen. He opens the blind eyes to see, the deaf to hear and the lame to walk. We can only seek him and find him when we search for him with all of our heart. Only God knows how to fix a broken heart.
