I read and saw many pictures and videos in FB after this incident. What I saw, were the same 4 pictures, spliced together of a couple of inches of water in an underground garage. Not the main church garage, but a book depository several blocks away.
I saw videos of no water, and the main doors locked on the main entrance level. The guard waved a stick at the person taking the video, so that was the end of one. There was no water in the huge arena! I looked everywhere for pictures of a flooded church, and I just kept finding videos of people walking around, unable to get in, with no water!
Take that however you like! My feeling is that if there truly had been flooding, Lakewood Church would have released some authentic pictures. But you are entitled to believe what you want, on this issue. Maybe we will never know the whole truth!
However, regarding his theology, I would challenge people to read his sermons. They are hermeneutically unsound, there is NO exegesis, and even the eisegesis was barely there. He just talks about being happy/being prosperous as in getting money, etc. Somewhere in the middle, he usually sticks part of a Bible verse to support his thesis. I guess that is eisegesis, but it seemed more like an afterthought, than trying to prop up his doctrine with the Bible.
I read a few, they were all like this. I would urge people to actually read his poorly written sermons. I personally don't see him as New Age or Satanist. I see him as an appallingly uneducated used car salesman. Now, if you think listening or reading sermons by someone how doesn't know the Bible, can't write, and is only interested in money is uplifting, then go for it! I will stick to the Bible, and read sermons by some of the top preachers in the last few centuries. Certainly, Joel has nothing to offer me in the way of encouragement or being edified by teaching the gospel.
I was looking for the link for the transcripts I read a while back. Instead, I found this. Donate to see the transcripts. And not small amounts, either! Shocking!
