Well I guess my post got deleted, too much reality?
No, if it did, my guess is you violated the rules. You may want to go back and actually read them.
But while you are still here, let me explain what a real Christian is.
Don't take offense to that, because there are a LOT of people who think they are Christians, when they have not even entered the right gate yet.
Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV)
[SUP]
13[/SUP]
"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
[SUP]
14 [/SUP]
But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Matthew 7:21 (NIV)
[SUP]
21[/SUP]
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
John 14:15 (NIV)
[SUP]
15[/SUP]
"If you love me, you will obey what I command.
1 John 5:3 (NIV)
[SUP]
3 [/SUP] This is
love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,
So Christianity is more than intellectual knowledge of who He is; and if you think about it, even the Devil has that kind of knowledge.
So is it taking up space on a pew once in awhile that makes you a real Christian? NO, because sitting in Church does not make you a real Christian, any more then sitting in a garage would make you a real car. However actually listening to sermons is the best way to find that Small Narrow Gate that Jesus was talking about.
Romans 10:14-15 (NIV)
[SUP]
14 [/SUP] How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And
how can they hear without someone preaching to them?
[SUP]
15 [/SUP] And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"
Romans 10:17 (NKJV)
[SUP]
17 [/SUP] So then
faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Hearing WHAT?
These verses would be a very good start:
Romans 3:22-24 (NIV)
[SUP]
22 [/SUP] This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference,
[SUP]
23 [/SUP]
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
[SUP]
24 [/SUP] and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
1 John 1:9 (NIV)
[SUP]
9 [/SUP]
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Okay, so we hear from His Word that we are a sinner, and this guilt comes into our hearts, sincerely wanting forgiveness; then we go directly to the LORD asking for His forgiveness. Then what? Isn't that works righteousness?
No, because that genuine Conviction of one's own sinfulness and that genuine desire to confess it, comes from the Work of the Holy Spirit on your heart.
THEN one needs to RECEIVE Jesus Christ into your heart, and the ability to do so, is also a Work of the Holy Spirit:
John 1:12-13 (NKJV)
[SUP]
12 [/SUP] But
as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God,
to those who believe in His name:
[SUP]
13 [/SUP]
who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but
of God.
But that leaves us with two more questions.
RECEIVED HIM AS WHAT?
And what is this "born of GOD" that He is talking about?
Colossians 2:6 (NIV)
[SUP]
6 [/SUP] So then, just as you
received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him,
The word
Lord means MASTER, so that takes us back to
"If you love me, you will obey what I command."
So it is a deep loving, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, where we totally out of a willing heart submit to Him as MASTER.
THAT is the stepping through that Small Narrow Gate, which is the very beginning of being a real Christian. And as we step through that Small Narrow Gate we step firmly down onto that Narrow Road that He mentioned, and that Road is a LIFESTYLE of willingly walking in obedience to His commands to the best of our ability, because we love Him.
But what if we are not perfect at it? That is when the Holy Spirit brings back that conviction of sin and the desire to confess each new sin. That is also a characteristic of a genuine Christian.
1 John 1:9 (NIV)
[SUP]
9 [/SUP]
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Wow! Then at that moment after confessing each new sin to GOD, we are seen by GOD as holy? Yes, but because of our sin nature that we are born with, we cannot seem to hang on to that for very long. The good news though, as we mature by feeding on His Word, is that the genuine Christian walk of obedience to HIM will get easier and easier.
Matthew 5:6 (NIV)
[SUP]
6 [/SUP]
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
So we will hunger to understand His Word after we step through that Small Narrow Gate.
But all that still leaves one question unanswered; what is that "born of GOD" that He mentioned?
I will try to explain this very simply, but there is an above average chance that this will sound like foolishness to you at this moment. However after you step through that Small Narrow Gate, it will all make perfect sense.
1 Corinthians 2:14 (NIV)
[SUP]
14 [/SUP] The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Something very, very important and miraculous happens inside you, the very moment you step through that Small Narrow Gate that I described above. The Holy Spirit comes into your heart and He brings your human spirit that was dead to the will of GOD, to become eternally alive to the will of GOD.
John 3:3 (NIV)
[SUP]
3 [/SUP] In reply Jesus declared,
"I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."
John 3:6 (NIV)
[SUP]
6 [/SUP]
Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
Colossians 2:13 (NIV)
[SUP]
13 [/SUP] When
you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of
your sinful nature,
God made you alive with Christ.
He forgave us all our sins,
1 John 5:11 (GW)
[SUP]
11 [/SUP] This is the testimony:
God has given us eternal life, and
this life is found in his Son.
John 3:36 (NIV)
[SUP]
36 [/SUP]
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but
whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him."
We humans are made up of three parts, Body, Soul, and spirit. Soul is simply the human mind or psyche. So Body and Soul are alive and functioning normally (in most cases) at natural birth. The human spirit however is not functioning as GOD intended, because of the inherited sin nature that we inherited from the sin of Adam. Our human spirit is "dead to the will of GOD", at natural birth, so our human spirit is unnoticeable as we grow up, because it is totally in tune with the will of the flesh that is in our soul (the human mind). HOWEVER, when we step through that Small Narrow Gate, the Holy Spirit brings our human spirit to become eternally alive to the will of GOD; and our human spirit thinks TOO. All of a sudden it is like having two minds at work in us, and ONE wants to always do the will of GOD, while the other wants to do the will of the flesh. Here is Paul struggling with the reality of those two minds battling one another for control.
Romans 7:15-25 (NIV)
[SUP]
15 [/SUP] I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.
[SUP]
16 [/SUP] And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.
[SUP]
17 [/SUP] As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.
[SUP]
18 [/SUP] I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.
[SUP]
19 [/SUP] For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing.
[SUP]
20 [/SUP] Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
[SUP]
21 [/SUP] So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me.
[SUP]
22 [/SUP] For in my inner being I delight in God's law;
[SUP]
23 [/SUP] but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members.
[SUP]
24 [/SUP] What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?
[SUP]
25 [/SUP] Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
As we feed our born again spirit the Word of GOD, it will grow and mature. The more spiritual food (the Word of God) you take in the faster it matures. So I can joyfully testify that eventually the mature human spirit that wants to do the will of God, will eventually become dominant over the soul that wants to do the will of the flesh.
Anything less than coming to Christ through that Small Narrow Gate as described above, is a counterfeit Christianity, because that IS THE VERY STARTING POINT. How do I know? I was one of those counterfeit Christians until I was 29 years old, and after a third attempt at suicide, I surrendered complete control of my life to JESUS CHRIST as my LORD, and I can testify that everything I described has happened in me. This verse will also validate that NO submission to HIM as LORD and MASTER, is a Counterfeit of Christianity:
1 John 2:4 (NIV)
[SUP]
4 [/SUP] The man who says,
"I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
