hi welcome to CC

if i remember right there are a couple of people who came out of mormonism, yes. not me, tho i've been kicked out of mormon forums lol, and asked not to come back to BOM study groups after being invited by their missionaries...

you might get more responses, quicker, if you post in 'bible discussion forum'

I believe that blue_ladybug may know a little about Mormons because she once lived in Utah. She mostly hangs out in the Conversation About Nothing In Particular thread in the Singles forum. I am sure that she would be glad to share what she may know. Anyway, she is a very nice peep to converse with. The best in-depth conversations take place in the forums and not the chatrooms. Depending on the topic, type of post written and time of day you can receive a response within a couple minutes. Glad to have you here as part of our family. Welcome to CC.

I was saved on October 25, 1976 from Mormonism. To be honest, the last 42 years have been spent with the Word of God. I learned early on that it is best to study the real thing, and that will take care of the counterfeits out here. Much like a bank teller in training will only handle real money, so that when the fake comes around his fingers will know it even before his brain does.

Paul advised us to do this here . . .

"For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil" (Romans 16:19).

The one thing that I do vividly recall was that my mind could not wrap itself around the teaching in Mormonism that hell isn't real, and that there is no sin. So, when I heard the Gospel through the 'Four Spiritual Laws" it was not hard for me to reject the false for the true.

I rejoice that God performed a miracle in not only my life, but that my wife was saved a few weeks later.

Today she is waiting for me in heaven . . . I am so glad that she did not die a disciple of Joseph Smith!!!

Welcome aboard, big hugs. I know little on this topic, but think it is a great question. Hope you enjoy it around here, I sure do. You can also go to the play store download the Christian Chat app, and ask there too. Just be patient in getting responses, give ppl a chance. Not everyone reads, some just listen to the ones on the mic. But most are wonderful peeps, who know and welcome a talk to help you understand.

There's a ton of material on CARM, and I would think most of that material is probably reliable.
Mormonism Section on CARM

There are also numerous websites out there dedicated to ex-Mormons, as well as sites dedicated to orthodox apologetics regarding Mormonism.

There should be no shortage of good information if you have questions about orthodox christian doctrine, or problems with Mormonism. And we do have a lot of people right on CC familiar with these particular issues and doctrines.

Another Important thing - Revision & Obfuscation:

The Mormon church has done a good job of obfuscating it's beliefs, and this will cause some problems when you visit apologetics websites.

There are many Mormon doctrines which have COMPLETELY CHANGED over time, or which have been HIDDEN over time. They have many doctrinal books which they have intentionally chosen to stop reprinting, in order to hide their beliefs, or their past beliefs, from those investigating them. They have also done a good job at REDEFINING biblical terms, so their adherents are confused about orthdox doctrines, and so that orthodox christians simply have no idea what they're saying. (A good example might be use of the word "saved".)

This kind of intentional subterfuge and obfuscation does NOT occur within orthodox denominations.
We discuss and debate things quite openly and honestly, and we don't try to hide any of our views.

So what is the result of all this obfuscation, and why am I bringing it up?

When you go on an apologetics website, and look up doctrinal or historical problems with Mormonism, you may see many things stated which YOU'VE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF! People will often say that Mormons believe this or that, and you may think, "I never believed that!"
And the reason is because the Mormon church is continually changing and adapting it's theology, and continually hiding and obfuscating their past doctrinal beliefs, and continually hiding and revising it's own history.

Because of this, it's very possible you'll see accusations against the Mormon church which aren't aligned with whatever particular thing you were taught. That's because the Mormon church has a history of continually revising and changing it's "official" doctrines.

I've never lived in Utah. My brother used to live there a long time ago, but except for a brief visit with him, I've never lived anywhere but Vermont.

All I know about Mormons is, they wear weird underwear supposedly to keep them chaste, they believe that one day they'll be gods and have their own planets. And they also believe that you can be "sealed" in the temple, I think baptized in the name of dead loved ones so they can enter heaven or something like that..

The religion sounds really strange and is something not even worth considering. Thank you for the information.

You would be surprised just how seriously these Mormons Morons take their religion . . . they all want to be gods someday. Well, the men do anyway . . . dozens of wives. Sheesh! Having had one wife for forty-two years I really don't know why any would want to have two at the same time! :)

MODS - Could you please move this thread to a normal theology area, like BDF.

This really shouldn't be on the Conspiracy forum.

Doctrinal apologetics regarding Mormonism isn't a conspiracy, it's just rudimentary theology.

Hi Juls, and Welcome.

If you are an ex-Mormon, you probably have a reasonable grasp of the Gospel, if nothing else.

You would be further ahead by simply ask questions about things in Bible Christianity which you may not be sure about.

Mormon doctrine, as you know, is generally at odds with Bible Christianity, and Mormonism is regarded as a cult.

Thanks Nehemiah6. I totally agree. Mormonism is a cult. The problem is a lot of the doctrine is based on actual bible scripture. The difficulty I have is figuring out what is christian and what is mormon? Im trying to read and learn to find out.
