Because God sent them.
1 Kings 22:

19 And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

20 And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.

21 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him.

22 And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.

23 Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.

Here's what you want us to believe:

vs 20 - God wants to persuade Ahab that he should go to Ramothgilead so that Ahab would fall.

vs 23 - God put a lying spirit in the mouth of all Ahab's prophets.

Is that what you want us to believe, Dave-L?

please answer this question because I really do want to understand what it is you want us to believe concerning this passage. Thanks.

You need to prove my position is incorrect. I agree with historic Christianity at every point I mention. And they condemn as heretics those who do not agree with these same points.

You can mold any god you like from scripture. But you cannot have anything but an idol and an insult to the creator when you do. How doy you know you are not one of the tares?

I wouldn't get too hung up on the LXX that we possess today. Though I agree that it is clearly more accurate than the Masoreic, there is yet an error in exodus 12:40. My point is that there were probaby several or many LXX available to Paul and the apostles. All we have left today is the Alexandrian LXX (Which was found fairly recently actually).

FYI The Alexandrian LXX adds about 1700 years to the time span of the genesis patriarchs!
Which is certainly correct. The reason for the errors in the Masoretic are well known.
Jesus and the church used the LXX. And it's not good enough for you?

What I said was that the Alexandrian LXX we know today is the one and only LXX Manuscript in the world. There is an error at Exodus 12:40 ("and in Canaan"). The early Church probably had a error-free manuscript and they knew it. Other than that the Alexandrian LXX is definitely the go to Old Testament. Happy now?

What about cannibalism. Did God cause the Jews to sin causing them to eat their children many times in the OT?
Cannibalism, Here’s a sample of God’s judgment that abortion fits well with.

And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their lives, shall straiten them.” Jeremiah 19:9 (KJV 1900)

You need to check meanings of words before you use verses to support what you're aying.
"cause to eat" is a horrible translation. It says "I will feed them".
In other places this word is even translated "had freely eaten" as in 1 Sam 14:30.

It says God caused them to kill and eat their children. Many times in the OT.
