Did Jesus take the punishment for our sins?

I have no idea again what answer your looking for because you have not explained your understanding of this scripture.
God was no longer wanting sacrifice of animals but compassion for one another.
Mercy means to have compassion,
Even when you say Thankyou, you can be showing compassion well at least if you speak French that is.
Obviously English mercy is forgiving each other but it's also gratitude
So I would be thankful and full of mercy that God's atoning sacrifice the blood of Jesus put an end to animal sacrifice to,

To whom is that directed? Was Jesus not an atoning sacrifice? Who
came to Earth specifically to give His life as a ransom for many?
He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

In order to comply with Jesus' instructions; it's necessary to go back
into the Old Testament.
● Hos 6:4-6 . .What can I do with you, Ephraim? What can I do with you,
Judah? Your love is like the morning mist, like the early dew that disappears.
Therefore I cut you in pieces with my prophets, I slaughtered you with the
words of my mouth; My judgments flashed like lightning upon you. For I
desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt
offerings.
Some folks have actually attempted to repeal the entire God-given book of
Leviticus with that verse. But that's not it.
In a nutshell; those folks in Hosea's day were attempting to compensate for
their lack of the milk of human kindness with rituals.

The sinners in that instance were Israel's elite: the Pharisees. They were
religious to the bone-- they offered all the required sacrifices, they observed
all the holy days of obligation, they paid their tithes and Temple taxes, and
cooled their heels during the sabbath day. But they were sorely lacking in
virtues like sympathy, kindness, forgiveness, generosity, courtesy, and
compassion.
To put that in modern context: there are Christians at large so far out of
compliance with Matt 7:12 that they'd honestly be better off spending
Sunday morning with a televised football game rather than insulting God
with their presence in church.

I guess the real question about Adam, was how old was he when he and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. We know he died at the age of 930. If we look at "millenniums" (the first of 7 millenniums, which are actually 980 years each = 49 x 20) we find Adam did die "in the day that he did eat". But his flesh did not die yet. There were children to be born and the ground to till as their punishment.
