Regarding the Holy Spirit, there is NO doubt that the Holy Spirit was indwelling, leading and guiding me from the moment I got saved. That was one of the things that made me wonder about the so-called "Baptism of the Holy Spirit" which I cannot find anywhere in the Bible. I mean the exact phrase, not implications and exogetical readings. Just the phrase is NOT there. So if it was that important, as we continually learn at Seminary, why does it not appear numerous times, like the cross, for example?

Acts 2:38-41 Speaks of the GIFT of the Holy Ghost
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the GIFT of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children and all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
Everything God has given is a gift

Dear sister,
The words "baptism of the Holy Ghost" are nowhere mentioned in the above verses. The above verse clearly says, "gift of the Holy Ghost." Due to our traditional influences, we are calling this the "Baptism of the Holy Ghost." (Agree, that even I am a product of what I have been taught)

In my understanding of the above verses, the "gift of the Holy Ghost" is received when one repents and is baptized.
At the moment, I am not going to argue whether this measure of the Holy Spirit is "indwelling" or outpoured.

This measure of the Holy Ghost is NOT GIVEN TO EVERYONE. It is given only to every born-again person (someone who is cut-to-the-heart (NIV) and realizes that they are nothing before God). The Holy Ghost is given in order to help them to begin their new journey in Christ. The outcome of our lives will determine whether this measure of the Holy Spirit will be fanned into flames (power) or dwindled. So, the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives is dependent on HOW WE LIVE OUR CHRISTIAN LIVES.

Well, there are times off course, when the Holy Spirit does supernatural things that MAY NOT DEPEND ON OUR WILL, but may depend on his purpose. God is God after all, and I will not put him in a box. However, I will not tell everyone to expect supernatural experiences.

This verse deals with an objective experience, which is the result of a change of heart, which is for the benefit of the individual concerned, and for the benefit of others. Supernatural experiences that can be interpreted subjectively may be deceptive. They may benefit the individual, but these experiences are between the individual and God. We can't tell everyone to expect something supernatural, although I would love to...only show me the same in the scriptures.

Luk 3:16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
Luk 3:17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.

When I was brought by the Father to Yeshua, Jesus, the Holy Spirit entered into my heart granting me knowledge of salvation. No one had talked to me or laid hands, I was simply filled with the Holy Spirit, and all became Light. With this the knowledge that everything is going to be just fine. This knowledge of Jesus Christ, Yeshua, as being the true Messiah is the seal of the Holy Spirit for anyone who confesses Jesus Christ as the Messiah, having come in the flesh.

Anyone who knows Jesus and confesses Him may only know this by the Holy Spirit, and although He may not have come with fireworks and fancy gifts, the gift of salvation is the greatest of all, and one only may know this if the Father has drawn him to the Messiah by the Holy Spirit. It is the baptism by fire, and it begins the perfection of the saints which will be accompished completely on His day, in Yeshua, always, amen.

I missed this 'Kundalinha' thing before, but when I read it here the hair on the back of my neck stood up. If this is true it explains a lot about the dear Zone and confirms a few things I've sensed while in prayer for her. If a spirit named itself for you during a 'penticostal experience' then you were being led astray. While named, the Heavenly host will always proclaim the Name of Jesus, not their own.
oh please.
no spirit "named itself"
the kundalini thing is what most of the Toronto Blessing and other Pentecostal and Charismatic stuff is.
i found out what it was by research.

Like i said, ohzone, I've never been 'slayed in the Spirit,' in a supernatural way but it's not that I don't believe it can be done. God can do all things and some NEED that in their spiritual walk. Not trying to sound self-righteous, just God's shown me Himself in other ways. Like I said, it's not about me going to some google search of those who had BAD EXPERIENCES regarding being slayed in the Spirit, I can't understand that, but I can't help that either, I am not He, His ways are higher than mine and His thoughts are not EVER known by me. But, God is in control, and, like I said, too, it's not about those who weren't in the RIGHT HEART (this is a guess) when they were slayed in the Spirit, which I've been to a Pentecostal church where this is done (my church does not do this 'act' during services). My church is biggest in Tacoma, my church has huge children's programs, taste of new wine (alcoholics program), bible studies weekdays, attended by AS MANY AS attend church on Sunday ! , women's programs, men's programs; my church does missionary work all over the world, my church is HUGE and hugely doing God's work, with faith, we are a church of God who focuses on Jesus and the Holy Spirit working in our lives, and, preaching Christ alone and Christ crucified saved us all. :)
I boast of CHRIST through all I say of my church I attend, the Lord put me there, I praise His name, it's all work that happens not without His great leading every step of the way. The Lord leads. All 'we' do is follow.

What do you NEED , ohzone, to believe in Him, I dunno. Unclefes don't know, NO ONE KNOWS but you and your thoughts because God gave them to ONLY YOU. And, who else KNOWS, milady? ONLY ONE OTHER: Him :)

So, give your thoughts to Him, and, see what happens to YOU :) And, yes, I am sorry you were, sounds like, anyway, you had been slain in the Spirit and, somehow, the experience became bad for you, think you mentioned 'Kundalinha' spirit came over you or something. I am not sure what was going on in your life at the time a spiritual gift was being administered, or, maybe, for 'slain,' the 'power of God,' works best, and, the seeing of the Holy Spirit, and, a deep inside conviction that Jesus can, indeed, bring power unto my life.

But, to think Satan, or a demon spirit of His is who REALLY came into you is sad, indeed, and, I pray when that happens next time, as Satan DOES masquerade into our lives as an angel of light before utterly throwing us INTO THE DARKNESS :(

Here are good verses for future help, and, you probably know them, ohzone, but, for others, too, they bear repeating :)

1 John 4: 1-5

These verses speak of when a spirit is around you--and, I've never really felt a spirit attacking me, except when I was 15 and forgot how to speak for a year, parents were in middle of bitter divorce and I was hearing voices and things--I stayed steadfast to God the whole time and, through my 'thorn' God got me through :) -- you can test spirits by asking if they believe in Jesus Christ having come in the flesh is from God, and, if they do not answer you, then , you know to rebuke them. "Get thee behind me, Satan!" is how I say to put it but don't mess around, truly WANT His power through you to get that thing OUT OF THERE, and, command the demon and Satan to go, 'in the name of Jesus.'

'I love this song, 'In the name of Jesus, In the name of Jesus, we have the vic-to-ry. In the name of Jesus, In the name of Jesus, demons will have to flee.
When we stand on the name of Jesus, who can stand before us? When we stand on the name of Jesus, we have the vic-to-ry.'

1Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
4You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit [SUP]a[/SUP] of truth and the spirit of falsehood.
green.....you got no clue what you're talking about.
none, none of those antics are of God.

none of it.
it's either flesh or something worse.
all from distorting the proof texts to justify it.
its sad and insulting to the Holy Spirit.

if you like it...carry on.
don't lecture me about it - i know what i'm talking about - you don't.
sorry if that sounds blunt - it's supposed to be.

i'll give you a hint - stay in that and don't expect to ever mature in the faith delivered once for all - that stuff aint got nuthin' to do with it.

you should have stopped here:

"I think, ohzone can speak for her self"

do not attempt to tell others what i believe, since you don't know of what you speak.
thank you in advance.

To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
not one single person today is doing any of that stuff.
it's not about US.

(tongues isn't gabbering - it was known human languages)

if anyone here claims they are performing miracles like the Apostles or Jesus did i say where's the beef?
let's see the evidence.

I know what I am zone and you're presenting a false portrayal of my beliefs based on your own misunderstandings.

In Christian theology, Cessationism is the view that the miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as speaking in tongues, prophetic utterances and faith healing, ceased being practiced early in Christian Church history.

I believe ALL of the miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit are available for today's Christians, despite the Apostles passing, as I stated in my previous post. This means that I am NOT a cessationist no matter how determined you are to try and paint me as one.
okay cool.
so you pretend to be practicing Biblical miraculous languages too?
you aren't.
you're doing something else entirely.
nothing to do with Pentecost or the foundation of the church.

but if you like it - great!

ppl who do these things are going to find out it was all false. think of how serious that is.
a-a-a-a-a-anyhow.

A miracle is simply a very unusual, time-relevant message provide by God for a specific purpose, which brings glory to God.
please think twice about downgrading miracles to something you think you are doing.

three ages of miracles to compare your stuff to:

Moses
Elijah
Jesus
Pentecost and the Apostles

are you going to tell me you or anyone you know performs miracles at the hand of God?

i don't believe you for one moment.

give God the Glory He demands concerning His miraculous activity, or please at least stop pretending He is perfoming the same through you today.

some people are SO self-important they just can't accept the Bible's Testimony of what constitutes a miracle.
and why God performs them.

oh well....a few sects experience them every Sunday - right after the praise band works up a sweat.

the rest are just dead churches (pfffft)

A very reasonable request given the serious nature of some claims. I would be very interested in seeing who these miracle workers are myself. Shouldn't be a difficult thing to verify one would think ?

Yep I have always said this falling stuff is EVIL! Even as the biggest sinner I knew this falling and shaking and screaming and laughing stuff is EVIL!

I was not surprised to find NONE of it in the Bible! And the people that fell down when they STEPPED BACK, when they came to arrest Jesus, did NOT RECIEVE the Holy Spiit, they fell in their DARK ways! They were evil, that is why they fell down before the one that said.... I AM HE!!!! And HE IS GOD, and NOT ONE KNEE SHALL NOT BEND before Him. Even the evil knees.

There is NO Scripture that hows people fall down when the Holy Spirit comes over them. NONE! When the cloud went over the Tabernackle, not one remained standing, NOT ONE.. in these churches the people that falls are caught, but in the Tabernacle all bowed to the Lord! Not fell backwards, but they could not remain standing, they bowed I believe. Like I will also, kneel before my Lord! With PLEASURE!

This falling over is EVIL and not from GOD!

So many interesting and diverse thread jacks, I hardly know where to start!! LOL

The fact that is does not appear ONCE, says it all for me.

The same with this concept of original sin. Of course, Adam and Eve sinned and brought sin, temptation and rather ruined our whole world. But do we have that original sin?? Again not finding it in the Bible. My Hebrew prof said it is badly constructed around one verse in Psalm 51, which is very different in Hebrew. Again, if it was that important, why does it not appear everywhere? I think it is a false construct of the Catholic church to justify infant baptism. But I might be wrong, always willing to hear other opinions on things that do not matter to salvation in the end.

I did not read that CoC link, perhaps I shall. I always like to discuss these things.

I'm thinking something half way between Calvinism and Arminianism might be the answer. God saves us, there is no doubt, it is a gift. But we do have to hear and move towards God. Is the call of God irresistible? I am glad I will never have to know the answer to that, as I heard and I was saved.
Mark 1:8I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
Matthew 3:11I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
Matthew 3:13Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
Matthew 3:14But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
Mark 1:8I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
Mark 16:16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
Luke 3:16John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:

Babtism of the Holy Ghost is not of water it is of the Spirit. Water baptism's purpose by John was to announce to the Jews Messiah has arrived and water baptism was for repentance for those that want to serve God, not for new life as what is in the Holy Ghost's Babtism with fire shown at the day of Pentecost. And there is only one Faith, one Lord and one Babtism.
Ephesians 4:5One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

Acts 1:5
For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

And those days came, no water involved and they preached to the others in the others language to them that knew that language and those others heard the truth that Christ who was crucified is alive has been risen from the dead ready to give you life here and now in the Spirit of God, do you want this and do you believe this and they believed, and 3,000 were saved that day by belief, first seeing the death and what that death did (it reconciled all to God) then the resurrection is where new life that day came for each that believed.
But man has made a mockery out of this whole ordeal by focusing on tongues and other gifts instead of life that he came to give, the devil, man's selfishenss, emotional trauma from these have and are still in the way to the truth of the whole purpose of the cross involving new life
John 10:10The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

And I have this while in the midst of trouble all around me, I never know how I will get through the adversities that I face, but I know I can trust the living God while oin the midst of tragedy
John 16:33These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Yes because Christ has (past tense) overcome the world, therefore I can trust him in famine in disease, in any tragedy for Christ is my treasure period how about anyone else?

No one performs any miracles at the hand of god or God at all. No one
God does it in and through the beleiver the believer is only the vessel just as the disciples were only the vessels to be used by God The Holy Ghost for God's purpose period and God's purpose is to bring salvation though anything God so chooses

I know for what God has done through me not even knowing at those times he did what he did I was and am only God's vessel the same as a water glass is my vessel to use whenever I decide to use the water glass. I am God's water glass by trust in God to use me whenever and however.
I again do know there are a lot of fakes, but Zone Ithink I will let God decide who is who, and hopefully anyone doingthings on thier own accord will change thier mind(s) and juat be available for God to use them period

Acts Chapter 19
1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
.
Acts Chapter 10
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

I've never heard of this before. Very interesting. I will say that those in countries where Hinduism is prominent could have a difficult time converting to Christianity and in a way "combine" Hindu practices with Christianity.
There are many examples of this in scripture. The early Christians had a rough time so Paul wrote many letters. Like Romans to help new believers adjust and those more mature in their faith learn how to deal with and help new converts.
Maybe we have gotten away from a mature faith and it is reverting back to pagan like beliefs out of ignorance. This is scary. I'm not saying everyone who has charismatic beliefs is like this, but some do "act out".
Maybe this is an example as to why Paul tells new believers to completely refrain from pagan practices out of risk of stumbling, and mature Christians should not cause their brother to stumble. Paul discussing meat sacrificed to idols comes to mind. Idols are pagan. New converts were reluctant to eat meat sacrificed to idols tho the meat was ammoral. If mature Christians ate the meat with a clean conscious and new believers saw this they could stumble. Maybe this particular type of charismatic practice is an example of this.
Make sense?

Beth....this Toronto Blessing/Azusa Street stuff is exactly the same spirit(s) you see in the video.
a small portion is people acting out because they were raised in it and have to fake it make it.
the rest are deceived by these very same spirits.
its really straight forward.

if you follow a timeline of the appearance of this into "mainstream" in the west, it coincided with the east-meets-west renewel of gnosticism. signs and wonders my dear....you're lookin at 'em.

and people attribute this to The Holy Spirit!

Not everyone is blessed with an experience such as yours. I believe you because you always display deep faith in Christ Yeshua and true love for God, which cannot be done without the Holy Spirit. I believe that knowing Christ is not just a matter of intellect. No one can know Christ unless it is revealed to them by the Father, sometimes directly, and sometimes through flesh and blood (man).

I once used to (incorrectly and casually) tell people that God has done his job till the time Jesus came, and now it is the turn of man (flesh and blood) to do the rest. I know that this is not true. Although Christ has commissioned man to spread the word, God was and is always in control. May all the glory be given to God. Amen.

Shalom OLB, my brother! Please always keep in mind, I do answer from my experience and study, but when I answer you, it is never something etched in stone, it is for your evaluation and to edify when applicable. You have honest questions, and I try very hard to answer accordingly. May Yahweh, God, bless you and hold you close forever, amen................
