Some time during Jonah's three-day nautical adventure, he went to a place
described as the roots of the mountains (Jonah 2:6). Well; the roots of the
mountains aren't situated in the tummy of a fish; they're embedded in the
earth. Jesus said the same thing about his experience.

†. Mtt 12:40 . . For just as Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days
and three nights, so the Son of man will be in the heart of the earth three
days and three nights.

When you think about it, the Lord's corpse was never in the heart of the
earth. It wasn't even in the earth's soil. It was on the surface of the earth in
a rock tomb. So in order for Jesus to be on the surface of the Earth and in its
heart at the same time, he and his body had to go their separate ways.
Same with Jonah. In order for Jonah to be in a fish's tummy and down at the
roots of the mountains at the same time, he and his body had to go their
separate ways; which of course is not difficult for Christians seeing as how
they believe it's possible for a human to continue existing beyond the
demise of their body. Well; maybe not all Christians; but most anyway.

†. Mark 9:47-48 . . If your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out. It is better to
enter the kingdom of God half blind than to have two eyes and be thrown
into hell; where the worm never dies and the fire never goes out.

Jesus Christ's caution and warning about the fire and worms didn't reveal
anything new. He simply reiterated information that had already been
released by an Old Testament prophet roughly 700 years before Christ was
born.

†. Isa 66:22-24 . . All humanity will come to worship me from week to week
and from month to month. And as they go out, they will see the dead bodies
of those who have rebelled against me. For the worms that devour them will
never die, and the fire that burns them will never go out. All who pass by
will view them with utter loathing.

The human body is organic. So then, how can it survive in eternal flame as
perpetual nourishment for those worms? Well; supernatural fire's properties
are adjustable. For example: supernatural fire totally incinerated the cities of
Sodom and Gomorrah but left unscathed a desert shrub that Moses
encountered in the Sinai outback while tending his father-in-law's sheep. But
even if eternal fire's properties were dictated by the laws of physics; those
laws are easily suspended by the one who created those laws. Compare Dan
3:8-27 where a blistering hot fire left totally unscathed Shadrach, Meshach,
and Abed-nego.

Those roasting corpses, infested with their fire-proof worms, will be open to
the public like the skeletal remains on display in the museum at La Brea tar
pits in Los Angeles. Christ labeled the museum as a place called "hell fire".

The koiné Greek word for "hell fire" is geena (gheh'-en-nah) which refers to
a canyon valley (a.k.a. the valley of the son of Hinnom, Josh 15:8, 2Chrn
28:3, et al) situated south of the old city walls of Jerusalem. In Jesus' day,
the valley served as the ancient city's landfill, where fires were kept burning
day and night doing the double duty of incinerating a constant waste stream
of urban refuse and the carcasses of dead animals and low income citizens.
The malefactors crucified alongside Jesus likely ended up there if they had
no one to claim their remains.

A worm that thrives in flame is pretty amazing, but not unreasonable. The 4
inch Pompeii worm lives in sea water temperatures of 176° Fahrenheit, hot
enough to kill salmonella and sanitize an egg. So I guess if God could create
a worm like the Pompeii, it shouldn't be too difficult for Him to create worms
that like it even warmer. Fortunately the bodies of the damned will be dead
so they won't feel the worms at work on their remains.

An interesting concept associated with geena is the necessity of sanitary
disposal; which is really what landfills and dumps are designed to accomplish
in order to prevent the spread of disease; which suggests that corpses in
geena will be toxic.

When The Lord returns, the first order of business is a thorough Spring
cleaning followed by a trip to the dump.

†. Matt 13:41-42 . . I, the Son of man, will send my angels, and they will
remove from my kingdom everything that's offensive, and all who do evil,
and they will throw them into the furnace and burn them. There will be
weeping and gnashing of teeth.

†. Mal 4:1 . .For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all
the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that
cometh shall burn them up, testifies Yhvh of Legions, that it shall leave them
neither root nor sprig.

†. Ecc 1:2-4 . . Meaningless! Futile! complains the Teacher. Utterly
meaningless! Everything is meaningless. What does a man gain from all his
labor at which he toils under the sun? Generations come and generations go,
but the earth remains forever.

The earth is dumber than a spatula; yet easily outlives its human potentate
whose IQ is infinitely greater. Take for example the great granite
monuments in Yosemite Valley. Tourists to the valley come, and tourists to
the valley go; and one day old age catches up with those tourists and
they're gone; yet Yosemite's great stones abide decade after decade;
century after century. Most children born this day will be dead in 100 years;
and those stones won't even notice. Though a child born today may be
intelligent enough to eventually understand orbital mechanics and string
theory; the stones-- stupid, mute, and uneducated --will easily outlast it.

†. Ecc 2:15-16 . . I thought in my heart,: The fate of the fool will overtake
me also. What then do I gain by being intelligent? I said in my heart: This is
meaningless For the intelligent man, like the fool, will not be long
remembered-- in days to come both will be forgotten. Like the fool, the
intelligent man too must die.

According to Jesus Christ's testimony as an expert witness in all matters
pertaining to the afterlife; most of the world's responsible souls haven't been
making it to safety when they cross over to the other side.

†. Luke 13:22-24 . . And he went through the cities and villages, teaching,
and journeying toward Jerusalem. Then said one unto him, master, are there
few that be saved? And he said unto them: Strive to enter in at the strait
gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

†. Matt 7:13-14 . . Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and
broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But
small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find
it.

†. Matt 22:14 . . For many are called, but few are chosen.

Webster's defines "many" as consisting of, or amounting to, a large but
indefinite number; while "few" is defined as consisting of, or amounting to,
only a small number; viz: relative to many then, few is the lesser. Bear with
me while I flesh this out.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the resident population of the United
States, projected to 12/10/14 at 03:35 pm New York time, was
approximately 319,408,600 with a death rate of approximately one every 12
seconds; which translates to an average of 7,200 American deaths of all
ages, races, and genders during just one 24-hour calendar day.

According to 2009 US Census data; roughly 27.3% of America's daily deaths
are under the age of 19, which would indicate that approximately 5,089 of
the current daily death rate of 7,200 per 24 hours are adults. Giving the
"many" the benefit of the doubt by limiting their maximum percentage to
51%, would indicate a minimum of 2,595 American adults transferring to
perdition every day: which translates to roughly 108 per hour.

That's a very conservative estimate as the Lord didn't really specify exact
percentages to represent the quantities of "few" and "many". But just think:
by the time CBS completes its half-hour evening news report, a bare-bones
minimum of 54 Americans become new arrivals in the fiery sector of the
netherworld.

Using the ratio of 2,595 condemned souls per 319,408,600 population:
computing the number of condemned souls worldwide from a currently
estimated global population of 7,210,485,300 people, would suggest
something like 58,581 new arrivals in the fiery sector of the netherworld
every 24 hours; which translates to 2,441 souls every sixty minutes on the
clock.

That rate would fill the 51,800 seats of the new Yankee Stadium to capacity
in roughly 21 hours and 13 minutes. In other words: if the world's daily
number of condemned souls started filing into the stadium at 06:00 am this
morning, then by 03:13 am tomorrow, the stadium would be full to capacity.

Christmas and New Year's are even worse. A study done of 26 years of
death certificates shows that coronary fatalities are, on average, 11.9%
higher on those days than any other days of the year; with non-heart deaths
spiking to 12.2% higher; and believe me folks, hell never closes; no, not at
all: it's open for business 24/7/365 nonstop and indifferent to global
warming, Wall Street crashes, massive layoffs, high school shootings,
terrorism, tsunamis, earthquakes, nuclear meltdowns, air, water, and soil
pollution, freeway pile-ups, brown-outs, threatened species, gasoline prices,
student debt, GMO, trade deficits, Federal debt, factory recalls,
overpopulation, desertification, genocides, revolutions, civil wars, acid rain,
road rage, conscious decoupling, ISIS, gay marriage, the crisis in Ukraine,
Obamacare, blood diamonds, fracking, twerking, Oprah's millions, and
Letterman's retirement.

If the Lord is a credible witness; then it's apparent that souls never stop
cascading into the pits of hell in an endless procession like the unbelievable
millions of poultry broilers passing annually through Tyson chicken
processing plants on their way to Wendy's, McDonalds, Carl's Junior, Jack in
the Box, Burger King, In-n-Out Burger, KFC, A&W, Arby's, Dairy Queen,
Taco Bell, et al; and to supermarkets and restaurants all over the USA and

Why have you omitted believers, they to go to the grave?
Although hades probably includes one's grave, it's not limited to one's
grave.

Take for example Jonah. While his body was on ice in the fish's tummy, he
was imprisoned in a place called sheol in Hebrew; which Jonah sited at the
roots of the mountains. Well; mountains aren't rooted in the tummy of a
fish, they're tooted in the depths of the earth.

Jesus Christ underwent the very same experience. While his body was on ice
in a tomb on the surface of the earth, he was imprisoned somewhere in the
depths of the earth-- a somewhere that Acts 2:25-32 identifies as hades;
which is the Greek equivalent of sheol.

=========================================
We've gone over this. The dead are dead, not somewhere part from their body. That idea is from Greek Philosophy. The roots of the mountains are simply the base of the mountains as we see in the LXX.

6 {02:7} to the clefts of the mountains; I went down into the earth, whose bars are the everlasting barriers: yet, O Lord my God, let my ruined life be restored. (Jon 2:6 LXE)

Even the KJV has the bottom of the mountains.

6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God. (Jon 2:6 KJV)

It seems to me that you're taking one translation to an extreme.

If Hades can mean two different locations how does one know which is being spoken of?

It seems to me that your quote of Acts 2 doesn't support your claim unless one already believes there is a place underground called Hades. If Hades is simply the grave it doesn't have to be underground. One can be in a tomb and still be in the grave. It is true that typically a grave is in ground but I doesn't have to be. To say His body was in a tomb on the surface of the earth doesn't mean "He" was somewhere else.

This doesn't answer my original question. If believers go to Hades, the grave, and Hades can mean something else how does one know where the believer is going?

I went down to the bottoms of the mountains;
The bottoms of the mountains are not located in the tummy of a fish; they're
located in the depths of the earth.

the earth with her bars was about me
The earth's bars are earth; the body of a fish is flesh.

Jesus Christ likened his experience to that of Jonah's.

†. Matt 12:40 . . As Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a
huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart
of the earth.

Was Jonah in the belly of a fish three days and three nights? Yes.

Was Jonah at the bottoms of the mountains? Yes.

Was Jesus Christ in the belly of a tomb three days and three nights? Yes.

Was Jesus Christ in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights?
Yes.

The only possible means by which all the above could be true for both Jonah
and Jesus Christ, is if the men and their bodies parted company and went
separate ways when they died.

How do I know that Jonah was dead? Easy.

"yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God"

"brought up my life from corruption" is the language of resurrection. Similar
language is employed at Acts 2:25-32.

=======================================
You're taking these passages and imposing a belief on them that the Scriptures do not support. You say, the men and their bodies as if they are two different things, they are not, they are the same. When Adam ate from the tree God said to him, 'for dust you are and to dust you shall return.' Gen 2:7 tells us that God created men from the dust of the earth. The passage also tells us that God breathed His breath of Life into the mane and the man became a living soul. From this we learn that a living soul (Man) consists of a body and the breath of God. There is nothing else, thus a man cannot be separated from his body.

It was the Greeks who believed that man was some sort of spiritual being that could ascend into the heavens, that's not what the Scriptures teach.

However, as I pointed out before Jonah wasn't dead.

The LXX renders it this way,

LXE Jonah 2:6 {02:7} to the clefts of the mountains; I went down into the earth, whose bars are the everlasting barriers: yet, O Lord my God, let my ruined life be restored. (Jon 2:6 LXE)

let my ruined life be restored. (Jon 2:6 LXE)
Webster's defines "ruin" as a state of complete destruction; which,
incidentally, corresponds to the New Testament Greek word apollumi (ap-ol'
loo-mee); for example:

†. Matt 10:28 . . Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill
the soul. Rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in
hell.

FYI: the Greek word for "hell" in that verse isn't hades; it's geena (gheh'-en
nah) which is a place far more serious than where the rich man is located in
Luke 16:19-31.

Point being: Jonah 2:6 LXE isn't talking about ruin as per an addict ruining
their health with methamphetamine; no: it's talking about ruin in accordance
with Matt 10:28; in other words: Jonah 2:6 LXE is talking about Jonah's
death.

Hi!

I would like to share a few verses with you that tell us if God really does plan on tormenting the unrighteous in hell.

Romans 6:23- "For the wages sin pays is death, but the gift God gives is everlasting life by Christ Jesus our Lord."

So the Bible is telling us that humans pay for their sins at death. If God tormented people in a fiery hell this verse wouldn't be true. Also, the scriptures tell us what the condition of the dead are:

Pslam 146:4 "His spirit goes out, he returns to the ground; on that very day his thoughts perish.”

Ecclesiastes 9:5,10- "The living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing at all . . . Whatever your hand finds to do, do with all your might, for there is no work nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom in the Grave, where you are going.”

These scriptures are telling us that after someone dies "their thoughts perish" and "the dead know nothing at all." So really if God were to torment people after they died, these verses wouldn't make sense. However, the Bible does tell us what that "everlasting life" is at the end of Romans 6:23 above.

Psalm 37:29- "The righteous will possess the earth, and they will live forever on it.”

Revelation 21:4 - "He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

Isaiah 35:5,6- "At that time the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf will be unstopped. At that time the lame will leap like the deer, and the tongue of the speechless will shout for joy. For waters will burst forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert plain.”

So we have a hope to live forever on the earth without all this pain and suffering. God promises his righteous ones that they will inherit this hope if they stay close to him. I hope this was comforting and encouraging to you!

Ecclesiastes 9:5,10
Permit me to pass on an important safety tip in regards to Ecclesiastes. It
isn't a book of revelation; rather, it's one man's philosophy of life as seen
from the perspective of a man of the earth; viz: a man under the sun whose
understanding of death and the hereafter is limited to what he can see for
himself in the world around him; which no doubt is at least part of the
reason why Ecclesiastes is so popular with atheists and agnostics.

There's no textual evidence indicating that the author of Ecclesiastes had
ever seen the hereafter for himself before writing about it. In contrast, there
is an abundance of textual evidence indicating that Jesus Christ had seen the
hereafter for himself before speaking about it.

Bottom line is: Jesus Christ is a certifiable expert witness in all matters
pertaining to death and the hereafter. So in my judicious estimation: Jesus
Christ's is the voice you should be listening to instead of the musings of a
philosopher.

†. John 3:31-32 . . He who comes from above is above all, he who is of the
earth is from the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven
is above all. What he has seen and heard, of that he bears witness

†. Matt 17:5 . . Behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and behold, a
voice out of the cloud, saying: This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well
pleased; listen to Him!

Pslam 146:4 "His spirit goes out, he returns to the ground; on that very day
his thoughts perish.”
The Hebrew word for "thoughts" is 'eshtonah (esh-to-naw') which means:
thinking. Unfortunately, Ps 146:4 is the only place in the entire Old
Testament where 'eshtonah appears so we can't compare its uses in other
contexts. However, according to Webster's; "thinking" is an ambiguous word
with quite a variety of meanings to choose from; including, but not limited
to: concerns, anticipations, conceptions, opinions, imaginations,
visualizations, ideas, epiphanies, plans, schemes, fantasies, arguments,
deliberations, and the like.

For example: consider all those people who perished in the World Trade
Center, in the Japan and Indonesia tsunamis, and the Haiti earthquake.
None of them woke that day planning on it being their last on earth. No, on
the contrary; they had people to see, places to go, and things to do: but
before the day ended; whatever was on their minds lost its importance--
their priorities went right out the window and became no more significant
than green cheese on the moon. All their plans, their dreams, their
schedules, their schemes, their problems, their ambitions, their loves, and
their aspirations went right down the tubes as they were suddenly
confronted with a whole new reality to cope with.

Pop Clock Update

†. Luke 16:25-26 . . Abraham said to him: Son, remember

I should think that one of the worst aspects of hell is memory. How people
down there retain their memories sans the brain cells they left behind with
their corpse, I don't know; but they do, just as the rich man is able to
experience thirst sans a flesh and blood tongue.

†. Luke 16:24 . .The rich man shouted: Father Abraham, have some pity!
Send Lazarus over here to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my
tongue, because I am in anguish in these flames.

The older one gets, the more memories they accumulate, and many of those
memories haunt us with terrible regret. However, the people in hell not only
have to cope with their bad memories, but also the good ones too, and I
should think it is remembering the good things they enjoyed in life that
makes their situation only worse in the heat. They say it is better to have
loved and lost, rather than not to have loved at all. I disagree. I suspect it is
far better to not know what you're missing. Ignorance really would be bliss
in the once-rich man's situation.

Just think: that poor man is still in anguish down there to this very day;
almost 2,000 years since Luke penned his gospel; and, in the grand scheme
of things, that man is only just getting started on eternity because 2,000
years is little more than a warm-up for the main event.

†. Gen 6:5 . .And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the
earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil
continually.

It's freaky to contemplate that the Bible's God has a way to eavesdrop on
one's mental processes on a level about which we are unaware.

†. Matt 15:18-19 . . For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts

So then, it's not how your mind works that defines you, no, it's how your
heart works that defines you; and a man's heart is easily capable of
hoodwinking his own consciousness.

†. Jer 17:9 . . The human heart is most deceitful and desperately wicked.
Who really knows how bad it is?

There is a part of us that psychology labels the subconscious; which in
Freud's opinion is a repository for socially unacceptable ideas, wishes or
desires, traumatic memories, and painful emotions put out of mind by the
mechanism of psychological repression. However, the contents do not
necessarily have to be solely negative. In the psychoanalytic view, the
subconscious is a force that can only be recognized by its effects-- in other
words: your mind's thoughts can be construed not as replicas of your hearts
thoughts; but rather, as symptoms of your heart's thoughts.

The key word in the above is: repression. God is able to de-suppress those
repressed contents and submit them as evidence in the prosecution's case
against the accused. That means He will be confronting people with things
that they never before really knew about themselves; and that's why I
sometimes say only a fool would take their chances with the Bible's God.
They have no clue the extent of the tsunami they're walking into.

Hmmm, it occurs to me that God must be like the Nazis in WWII. Torture, cruelty and sadism described their barbaric treatment of Jews, Gypsies and foreigners.

Do you really think God is this way?

You, my friend, don't seem to understand that...

1Jn 4:16 ... God is love; ...

You seem to think that God will take great delight in torturing and tormenting the unsaved for all eternity.

NOTHING could be further from the truth.
