OK, fair enough. If we do our part, GOD does that which we cannot do.
I'm sorry but that is terrible

It sounds like being in a tag team wrestling match. We make every effort to do what we can then when we can do no more we ask for our partner to take over.

Remember phil3:3

We are called to put NO confidence in the flesh( ourselves)

Wouldn't the best way to reckon him dead to be to look away from him and to Jesus
The best way is to look at what we are in his spirit. When we do that we see how totally unworthy and helpless we are, and that's when he steps in.

It's like the law. We see how helpless we are before it, and our hearts cry for mercy and grace. That's when it shows up.

Well the bible does say to make every effort, but I think that needs to be understood in context of what is realistic. We must eschew works of law, but working to bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ is our reasonable service. That requires the participation of our mind and will.

Romans 6:11 (KJV)
[SUP]11 [/SUP] Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

says nothing reckoning of the old man...because he is dead.

We are to reckon we are dead to sin because the old man has died! If the old man is not dead....Christ is not in you..you do not have a new man....you do not have a hidden new man of the heart....you are not a new creation in Christ...you have not been born again.

The old fella died with Christ unless Christ did not die now?..which we know is foolishness.

Romans 6:6 (KJV)
[SUP]6 [/SUP] Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

That's all I'm saying. It's hard because the old man isn't dead. We have to reckon him dead as GOD reckons him to be dead. That is the cross. It's not always easy.

After beginning with the spirit are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?

Who has the better chance of changing us? We by ouf own effort, or Christ through the holy spirit I we trust him to do so?

Our part is to believe in Him..believing in Him releases His life outwardly in good works..it always starts with Him...never us!

John 6:28-29 (KJV)
[SUP]28 [/SUP] Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
[SUP]29 [/SUP] Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

There is none of that there...I would say you are "reading" that comparison/condemnation into it.

What it says is that there is grace and unconditional love for all of us in whatever struggle we are in. We give and accept grace to others as well as ourselves.

We rely on Christ's life in us to change us as we cannot do it ourselves.
yeah there is listen to what he said,
He has victory over sin, I did not..(even though I did)

I do not think you are paying attention here man.

The best way to reckon is to see the old man as dead and buried with Christ....gone!..now we look at who we are in Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (KJV)
[SUP]17 [/SUP] Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. [SUP] [/SUP] And all things are of God,

we need now to look at who we are in Christ.

Scripture says I need to crucify the flesh daily. So much for the flesh (old man) being dead. if it was dead, I would not need to crucify it..

That's a misleading translation of Galatians 3:3. Paul didn't say anything about human effort, but trying to be justified by works of law.

I never saw that...what page is it on?
start with this morning, and continue on.

if you can;t see it, maybe you believe as he did??

was I unsaved because I could not stop smoking? Or did I lack faith? Why was it I sgtruggled with this one sin (actually others too. but this major one)

yep. And it is an ongoing battle which should get easier from that day forward. But it is not all taken care of at once.. Like some people want to claim.. (like paul only struggled as a pharisee, which is a lie, Paul could do NOTHING AS a pharisee, there was no struggle )

Are ye so foolish, having begun in the spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh gal3:3

With all the mistakes you believe the KJV has made I guess I might as well just throw that version in the bin, too unreliable

Christ didn't tell his disciples it was OK to lay down their cross after he was risen.

self-effort is all about the law.....whether for justification or for obtaining the blessings of God....this is how Abraham got into trouble.....trying to fulfill the promises of God through his own effort...look at what it produced....

self-effort is at the heart of performance-based Christianity...although admitedly most have a sincere heart to serve the Lord and do right...but ti is like Paul talks about Israel..the have a zeal for God but without knowledge.

The mind of Christ is not the flesh, but it still operates within our brain.

The KJV is a great bible. I've never ragged on it as you seem to be implying.

Well three times in the last five days you have told me there are mistranslations in it

Confidence in ourselves means every part of us.
