Wow. I think you're right. Well stated.
I remember this one zen Buddhist karate instructor I use to take lessons from back in the late 70's laying us young people down on the dojo floor and trying to get us to have out of body experiences. He claimed that we could leave our bodies to gain information about what our enemies were doing. It never worked for me. I only had the one and that was in a real fight.
He also used to have us stand in front of a closed door and try to guess which weapon we should choose based on the weapon another had chosen behind the door. He would then open the door and let us see if our choice was appropriate or not. This never worked for me either. I must have been thick or possibly God was protecting me to a degree even then as I had a a Dutch praying grandmother on one side of my heathen family.
These are my personal experiences. From a theological viewpoint, I would pull out The Kingdom of The Occult by my friend Kurt VanGordon and see what it says here on page 245. Feel free to follow along if you have a copy:
"The psychic phenomenon of astral projection occurs when an individual in a state of consciousness claims to leave the physical body and travel long distances, observing other people, recording their actions, and returning to the body to confirm it. Letters, phone calls, and e-mails are all methods of confirmation-detailed proof provided to those "visited."
Robert Bruce and Professor C. E. Lindgren, in their how-to handbook on astral projection, describe the moment when an out-of-body experience (OBE) takes place-as well as its purpose:
""During conscious-exit projection, the real-time body will be vividly aware of the sensation of separating from and leaving its physical body behind... My overall impression is that this process is designed to provide the central animating spirit consciousness with regular and direct exposure to the refining and adjusting influences of living karma and universal law, as they exist at vastly higher and more rarefied dimensional levels.""
This, is how I believe, karma and universal law actually work: the higher subtle bodies filter up and down through the dimensional scale-from the gross physical body to its highest energetic state-whenever the physical body sleeps. When the mind and heart are opened to these types of occult experiences, a person becomes exposed to malignant spiritual beings waiting to take advantage of any vulnerability. Astral projection may seem harmless on the surface, but its
potential impact can be devastating."
Then on page 256:
"It is interesting to note that levitate, apport, materialize, dream analysis, seance, and astral projection are all relatively new terms. All of these things, with the exception of dream interpretation, appear in historical records after the Christian era. So the question remains: what came first?
Those involved in the occult would like people to believe that the Bible proves occultic psychic phenomena, when in reality it recounts true miraculous phenomena. What follows after these miracles is only a very cheap imitation. The revelation of God came first, and the demonic imitated it."
So it would appear that astral-travel is a demonic occult imitation that is very dangerous both spiritually and physically to those who engage in the practice.
AgeofKnowledge, thanks for sharing. I believe if you were to follow Jesus, you might have the same experience, but without fear. Since logically if you did enter the spirit without having the covering of authority of Christ you aren't very protected.
