Pardon for this post being so long, but I'm covering a lot of the Biblical info that shows how to understand about Satan's modus operandi.
The devil is not 'bound' yet. Christ's "thousand years" reign of Rev.20 has not begun yet, as that is when Satan is bound for that thousand years, as written.
I realize some brethren are wrongly taught that "thousand years" of Rev.20 began at Jesus' cross, but that's not so. Christ's spiritual Kingdom as manifested through His saints is what was established on the cross by our Lord Jesus. His physical Kingdom will begin when He returns to gather His Church which is when He will sit upon David's throne, and rule all nations with "a rod of iron".
Satan's main job is to deceive. Our Heavenly Father is using him for that upon the wicked and unbelieving (Isaiah 10). That was his job established at the beginning of this world and has not changed. Satan and his angels were actually judged and sentenced to perish in the "lake of fire" prior to our Lord Jesus' crucifixion (see end of Isaiah 30 and Matthew 25:41).
This is why the title "son of perdition" is actually another title for Satan, because he has already been sentenced to perdition in the lake of fire. In Rev.9:11, this is why one of Satan's titles is "Apollyon" from Greek apollumi, which is where the word 'perdition' comes from.
Beast Kingdoms
Not many I ask realize the beast kingdom connection between the one mentioned in Rev.12 and the one in Rev.13 that's for the end of this world:
Rev 12:3-4
3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
KJV
That was about Satan's original rebellion of old, prior to this present world. He used a beast kingdom to first rebel against God back then, and here it shows it also had ten horns, seven heads, but only "seven crowns". The one in Rev.13 is different because it will have "ten crowns". Also verse 3 there is tied with verse 4 as to timing, which shows that was at Satan's original rebellion against The Father and The Son. Notice that is when Satan and those one third of angels were cast to the earth.
But per the Book of Job, we know Satan and his angels were able to appear before God's Throne in Heaven, and give a report, accusing the brethren, even though he then said he had been walking to and fro, up and down in the earth.
The casting out beginning at Rev.12:7 forward is different though:
Rev 12:7-13
7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Later verses here reveal this particular casting out is for the last days, the very end of this present world. Satan's abode right now is in the heavenly dimension, because he is a spirit, a heavenly cherub per Ezek.28, not a flesh man. When this war happens, Satan and his angels will be literally cast out of the heavenly. There is only one other dimension they can come to, and it is our earthly dimension, meaning he is going to literally appear upon this earth for the last days. Hard to believe, but the next verses reveal it...
10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night."
When Satan and his angels were first cast out of Heaven at the original rebellion, our Lord Jesus had not come yet to die on the cross, to establish that "power of His Christ" idea. Likewise, Satan is still accusing us before God today, until this happens sometime in the near future. This war in Heaven he has with Archangel Michael is what the idea of Michael standing up in Daniel 12 about the latter days associated the two 1260 days periods.
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
Same subject still continuing about the devil and his angels being cast down to earth. Who are these overcomers? They are brethren in Christ Jesus who will overcome him in the last days by Christ's Blood shed on the cross. This is a clear marker that this casting event is meant for the very end of this world, and did not occur at Satan's original rebellion. There were no overcomers covered by Christ's Blood back when Satan first rebelled, for it's easy to know our Lord Jesus had not come to die on the cross back then. But this verse is linking Christian brethren and the time of Satan's casting out just above within the same... time frame.
12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
Short time? What "short time" would that be? It's the short time appointed at the end of this world, the period our Lord Jesus called a time of "great tribulation". In Rev.9 through Rev.11 our Lord Jesus attached a Woe to each of the last three trumpet events (5th, 6th, and 7th). So there's the "Woe" connection for the last days also.
13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
KJV
The "woman" in the first part Rev.12 was about Old Testament Israel, the Seed of Woman of Gen.3. At Rev.12:17, the "woman" includes those who have the testimony of Jesus Christ, meaning His Church. That is who that "dragon" is coming after on earth to deceive with that symbolic flood of waters that comes out the serpent's (Satan) mouth per Rev.12:15.
In Rev.13:11 with the "another beast", we are shown one that speaks "as a dragon" coming to work great wonders and miracles on earth, raining fire from heaven in the sight of men, and it is he that is to establish the "image of the beast" in false worship over the earth in the last days.
