The Miracle of God’s Word

Philippians 4:12
I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

The word, ‘How’ is of utmost importance in this verse of scripture, as it points to the next verse concerning ‘Through Christ.’ The instruction for the Christian comes from the Holy Spirit, who will at times instruct us to be full, and to be hungry, both to abound ‘In the faith’, and to suffer need ‘In the faith.’ Everything the child of God does that will be remembered in glory, will be done by the Holy Spirit, or else it will not be remembered at all, and everything He is allowed to do is done through Christ and His work at Calvary.
We cannot receive instructed properly without faith in the cross, and we surely cannot find this place of abounding or suffering according to the will of God without our faith in what Jesus did for us there, NOT just because of our faith there in days gone by, but today, the cross must be our object of faith, or instead of contending for the faith, we will have slipped into a subtle and deceptive place of pretending for the faith. In The Faith, we can do all things through Christ, even being abased and abounding!

Bread Crumbs “Our Adversary” May 17

The devil is not the adversary of God, he is the adversary of the people of God. The one true living God is too mighty, too great, too magnificent to have an adversary. You and I, on the other hand, are far too easily overwhelmed and overcome by Satan's advances and underhanded tactics. When facing our adversary, the first thing that we must understand is that he was defeated by Christ at Calvary. In Colossians 2:15 and again in Hebrews 2:14 the Scriptures clearly outline his defeat. If we face Satan with the idea that we have to defeat him, we are sure to lose. Fighting him in the strength of the flesh is the path of sure defeat. We must face him armed with the knowledge that he has already been defeated. As we submit to this truth, we will experience grace from God to resist the lies, the wiles, and the efforts of our adversary. Do not make the mistake of taking him lightly. But neither should we place him in an exalted position by thinking he is greater or even equal to God's provision against him. He was, is, and always shall be, a defeated foe as a result of Christ's sacrifice on Calvary.

1 Peter 5:8-9 - Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: (9) Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

The Apostle Paul wrote this to the Church in Philippi concerning their desire to give financially to him, and at previous times even though they wanted to, they didn’t have it to give. He wanted them to know that no matter what support they could or couldn’t give, He would be lead by the Holy Spirit, and that what he was called to do would be done THROUGH CHRIST in whom his strength would be found. I know we have for years used this scripture in many contexts, but the context is trusting Christ and His work at Calvary, and remaining faithful to the mission to carry and to deliver the gospel of Jesus Christ no matter if the funds are there or not!
The strength of the Lord is experienced when one is trusting in Christ, and one is trusting in Christ ONLY when they are trusting in His atoning work on the cross. That Righteous work done there (Isaiah 32:17) is the work He endured for the JOY that was set before Him (Hebrews 12:2), and His JOY is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). The mission of the Lord Jesus Christ will be carried out in these last days by The Spirit of the Lord through those who continue to trust in Jesus Christ and Him Crucified!

Bread Crumbs “God is Always Faithful” May 18

Whenever a believer goes through a difficult time, the lost world around them is likely to stand up and criticize them for their faith. Unbelievers may taunt them and ask, “Where is your God now?” Or they might say, “I thought you said God would always come through for you?” All these attacks are meant to cause further doubt and hurt in a time of extreme pressure. These are the times when our faith is proven to be genuine or will simply fade away into obscurity brought on by fear, doubt, and unbelief. It is impossible for mortal man to fully understand the purpose and reason why God does what God does. However, the Christian can be assured of the character of his Heavenly Father. God will never cause or allow something that cannot be turned around for our good if we will but believe Him to do so. So my answer to the doubters, to the critics, to the unfaithful, and unbelieving, is simply this. "My God is in the heavens and He will do whatever He needs to do to create a blessing for me. I trust Him, I believe in Him, and if you hang around long enough, you are going to see that my God always comes through for me.”

Psalm 115:2-3 Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God? (3) But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Philippians 4:14
Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction.

The mission of the Christian is to express Christ through faith in His gospel. Many times when the going gets tough, or when affliction takes place through persecution or rejection, which are one and the same thing, our fleshly desire is to quit. Running from suffering among those in the church today is the manifestation of faith in a wrong object. If it weren’t so, even in affliction God’s Grace would be found as sufficient through it all.

Never forget that when God finds true biblical faith, which is faith in His Son’s work on the cross, He gives grace, and God giving grace is God going to work on our behalf as the provision we need (Titus 2:11-14). When faith is working, it is God at work in our lives, and this process is defined as “By Grace through Faith.” Jesus tasted death for us by Grace (Hebrews 2:9), through faith (Galatians 2:20), and our faith in His work at Calvary brings us into this one and only process in which God works through that measure of faith we have received (Romans 12:3). Never move away from where the Lord brought you to save you! The Cross! You will always find Him there, as that is where He fought and won for you!

Bread Crumbs “A Root of Bitterness” May 19

Bitterness begins with an event ending in an unexpected or unwanted way. A devastating disappointment, the dissolving of a relationship, the discouraging end of some hope that you held long in your heart. All these may plant the unwanted seed of bitterness in the deep of your soul. Perhaps it was a friend that proved unfriendly. Something given that was received with joy then later snatched away. After the event you continued to allow the effect of that negative circumstance to continually circulate in your heart and mind. Sadness and despair transformed themselves into hate. Inner anger takes on the new form of cynicism and hopelessness. Trust is replaced with disheartenment and the inner peace of your soul gnarls itself into a black twisted energy of loathing and meanness. The answer to ending bitterness lies in forgiveness, faith, and the moving of the Holy Spirit. Stop blaming everyone else for making your life miserable. Forgive those who hurt you. Release the situation to the Lord and ask Him to replace your darkness with His light. Let the Holy Spirit weed out the ugly that remains and look to the Lord to fill your future with His goodness. Let the darkness fade away and see a new day rise in your heart.

Hebrews 12:15 - Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

Bread Crumbs “Joy Unspeakable” May 20

What does it mean to experience joy unspeakable? For those who have never experienced the emotional surge of this dynamic coursing through their heart and mind, it is an inconceivable concept. But for every believer it should be a common occurrence. It begins at salvation, when the weight of sin is lifted from the shoulders of the weary sinner and an exhilarating rejoicing makes full the heart. The soul becomes light as the proverbial feather and a sense of rapture fills the heart. When God intervenes and performs a miracle that the believer knows could only have been accomplished by the Almighty, the same dynamic glorious surge once more lights up the senses of the believer. When God heals the body, or when He supplies the financial need, or when He restores a relationship that could not otherwise be mended, the ecstasy comes again. When the preacher preaches under the anointing of the Holy Spirit and says just what you need to hear, joy explodes from your lips in an anthem of praise and we experience unspeakable joy. True joy can be experienced the moment you ask Jesus into your heart. Then you may know first hand the truth of which I speak. Knowing Jesus is truly joy unspeakable!

1 Peter 1:8 - Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

The Miracle of God’s Word

Philippians 4:15
Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.

When the Child of God has their faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ, they will be found giving to the ministry that is preaching and teaching that gospel. The Church in Philippi at one time was the only group of people who were giving to support the ministry the Lord had given to Paul. Paul knew that their sowing into the spreading of the preaching of the cross of Christ would be fruit that abounded to their account (v.17). Listen carefully. We all have an account. We cannot work our way into the Kingdom, but once we are in, God is looking for works (Matthew 5:16, Ephesians 2:10). The only good ground one can sown in, is the ministry of reconciliation, which is what the Lord has given every Child of God.

We were reconciled by the blood of Jesus (Colossians 1:20). He has given to us all the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18-19), and has committed His Word of reconciliation to us. This makes the ministry pretty simple to understand. Preach and teach the message that reconciles the sinner, and keeps the saint walking with God on the path of reconciliation. The message of the cross is the power of God to us who are being saved, but those who don’t think they need to hear it, it is foolishness to them because they are perishing (1 Corinthians 1:18). The Lord knows those who are His, which are those who call upon His name and depart from iniquity (2 Timothy 2:19). Support the preaching of the gospel, the Cross!

The Miracle of God’s Word

Philippians 4:16
For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.

Paul continues to speak of the faithfulness of the Philippians concerning their giving to help meet his needs while spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. They had received the love of the Truth, and were supporting those who spread it. Are we adding fruit to our account in this manner? Are we supporting the gospel with our time, talents, prayers and finances? Remember, the only things that will be remembered and rewarded eternally are those things which glorified the Lord, and the only things which glorify Him will be those things we, through faith in His Word, allowed Him to do in and through us! God only honors what God does!

Let us find a group of Christians who are striving together for the faith of the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, and be planted together with them in the house of the Lord that we might be found flourishing in His purpose for us (Psalm 92:13, Philippians 1:27). When we are supporting the actual preaching of the cross of Jesus Christ, and found in the unity of THAT faith (Galatians 2:20), the Lord will be among us with the manifestation of the Truth (2 Corinthians 4:2-3) as our fruit. If not, it will only be the moving of our flesh, and we will call it God!

Bread Crumbs “Way To Go, God!” May 21

When God first created Adam and Eve, they were created perfect and without sin. God wanted a creation that willingly chose to love Him and serve Him. And for this purpose, a simple test was placed before them. They were told not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They were warned that in the day they ate of it, death would become a certain reality. As we now know the first members of the human race dis...obeyed God. God was forced to separate from His highest creation. But even as the separation was enforced, even as sin became a dominant entity in their hearts, even as God forced them from His presence, God the Father spoke a promise. He stated that the seed of the woman would provide the redemption price needed to restore man's personal relationship with Himself. Two thousand years ago, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to earth and gave Himself as a sacrifice for the sin of all of humanity. Now, whosoever believes in Him is brought into a proper and profitable relationship with God. There can be no greater joy than to know that you are in right standing with God. Man blew it. God fixed it! This just makes me smile!

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Philippians 4:17
Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.
...
The heart of the one who carries the Gospel is seen here as the Apostle Paul tells the Saints of Philippi that their help wasn’t due to a desire for a personal gift to him, but so that what they gave could abound to their own account. A lot of the folks who claim to know Christ and are headed to heaven have never supported the gospel according to the Word of God. When we know to do right and we do it not, God says it is sin (James 4:17).

It is worth mentioning again, so let us remember Abraham as he was met by King Melchisedek after the Lord had given him the victory over 5 kings. Abraham noticed that Melchisedek brought Bread and Wine, which was symbolic in his priestly functions of the body and blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. When Abraham recognizes the true ministry of the Lord, which always points to the Redeeming work of Jesus Christ, he gives tithes of ALL he had (Genesis Chapter 14). Abraham is the Father of our faith (Romans 4:11-17), and stepped into that role long before the Law of Moses ever came about, therefore let us walk in the footsteps of our Father Abraham, who bear the fruits of His Righteousness. Help support the preaching of the Gospel, for God does not honor our giving unless it is in accordance with His Word. Let us all be found laying up rewards and treasures in heaven to our own account!
