Bread Crumbs “A True Disciple” May 27

It is the Christian’s personal responsibility to make the study of the Word of God a priority in his life. As believers we should be daily searching out the Word to enhance our relationship with God. In order to learn the Word of God we are going to need to discipline ourselves to spend time learning that Word. Not only must we learn the content of God's Word but we are also to apply that Word to our everyday life. For e...xample, the knowledge of the Message of the Cross is found in the confines of God's Word. I can come to understand that faith in Christ’s finished work is required, through the reading of God’s Word. I can learn that by grace and through faith is the only true process as to how God works in a life. But I must also endeavor to walk in these truths consistently. After I have observed the Word, I am to apply it to my own heart and life. Then I am to look for the opportunity to share these timeless truths with those I come in contact with. Read the Word! Apply that Word to your heart! Then share the Word of God with others!

Ezra 7:10 - For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Philippians 4:23
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

Paul the Apostle continually reminds God’s people that the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is with them, which is our reminder that God has grace to meet all our needs. The Lord told me about 6 years ago that Grace is what He does. Yes that is right, God’s Grace is God at work! The Believer is saved by Grace (Ephesians 2:5-8). God saved us through what He did In Christ at the Cross (2 Corinthians 5:19). The Believer is taught by Grace (Titus 2:11-12). God teaches us by His Spirit (John 16:13). All the works of God are done by Grace (1 Corinthians 15:10). God does the work in us (Philippians 2:13).

We need to understand that Grace does not just cover over sin, but by Grace we are forgiven of our sin, and delivered from our bondages of sin (Romans 6:14). Grace is what God does for us, in us, to us, and through us, and we cannot earn it, and we sure do not deserve it. Jesus tasted death for ALL men by the Grace of God (Hebrews 2:9), and when anyone comes to God based on THAT avenue of receiving Grace through faith, they are received and will find God’s Grace more than enough as His strength will be found perfect in their weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). GOD’S GRACE IS GOD AT WORK!

Bread Crumbs “Through the Spirit” May 28

Sitting in the Spirit is far more profitable than fighting in the flesh! To sit is an expression of rest. It is not necessarily a position of inactivity. However, to be seated, one must cease from his own efforts. The opportunity to avoid unnecessary pressure is experienced. God wants His people to rely upon Him. When we finally come to the realization that only God can accomplish what we need, then we become willing... to allow Him to work in our circumstance. The Spirit of God will often wait upon the believer to assume a position of rest before He will attend to that believer’s need. We have no ability in and of ourselves to overcome fleshly desires. Even a born-again person will find himself, at times, wanting or desiring something that the Holy Spirit does not want in our lives. If we try to “mortify” these desires through actions, routines, confessions, or any other method of the flesh, we will be overcome and defeated by that inclination. But if we will exhibit faith in what Christ has done for us at Calvary, the Holy Spirit will do the mortifying, and our victory is assured. So quit fighting by the means of the flesh and start living by faith in Christ.

Romans 8:13 - For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

This Is That...

It has been well said that the greatest gift given to the world is Jesus Christ and the salvation experience. As well, the greatest gift to the church is the person and work of the Holy Spirit! Without a doubt the most vital decision any person will ever make is whether or not they accept Jesus Christ as Savior! Upon accepting Christ, that believer should go on and be baptized in the Holy Spirit.

If one is to notice in the second chapter of Acts, this was not ...a day that prophecy was fulfilled. However, Peter said, “this is that which was spoken by Joel the prophet”, which means that this was only the beginning of the Holy Spirit being poured out! When we read the book of Acts it becomes unarguably clear that all who receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit will speak with other tongues. This is not from their human intellect, but as the word says, as the Spirit gives the utterance. No, the baptism in the Holy Spirit does not make one more saved, nor does it make one more righteous. We are saved and made the righteousness of God through faith alone in the finished work of Calvary. The baptism in the Holy Spirit is for service, meaning we will have power while on earth to carry out the work of Christ. We need that power if we are going to be what we ought to be for the Lord and to carry out the great commission. Jesus didn't make a suggestion, however he commanded his disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they receive the promise of The Father!

So, when Peter said the words, "this is that”, this spoke of the entrance of the Holy Spirit in a new dimension. He could now do something that prior to Calvary he couldn't do, which is to indwell the heart and life of the believer. Due to the cross, we can receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit and be used by the Lord to operate in the gifts of the spirit as well. Our ministries will be more effective for the kingdom of God.

Acts 2:16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel!

The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 1:1
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother,

Paul writes to the Church in Galatia under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and greets the Saints there on his and Timothy’s behalf. What a joy it must have been to receive a letter from the one who was laboring by the Grace of God with the Word’s of Truth concerning Christ and His work at the cross. This letter would be a merciful reach by the Lord into a backsliding Church there in Galatia because God loves even the back slider and desires that all of His people continue to walk in The Faith they received when they were born again. God gives His people His love (Romans 5:5) and The measure of faith which works by that love (Galatians 5:6).

God continues to reach today to His Church as He did continually throughout the times of old (Romans 10:21) to His people Israel. The majority of those who have truly been born again do not have any idea as to what the cross of Christ can do for them pertaining to their daily lives. The proof of that is that it is not being preached in the pulpits across the world. I went to the Philippines two years in a row, and the churches we went into were almost all full of the focus of the government of twelve, the focus of faith being in the words you speak, or many of the other fleshly schemes Satan has brought into the church through men for a distraction from simple faith in the work of Christ at Calvary! The reality is that God only honors Faith in that work, and that work of Christ at the cross alone.

Bread Crumbs “Bring Forth Fruit” May 29

Every believer is called to bring forth fruit. The idea of fruit includes the development of Christian character, a Holy lifestyle, and the performance of good works. This fruit also includes a life of praise, using our possessions to benefit others, and sharing our faith in order to win the lost to Christ. These, and other evidences, are all the visible proof of cultivated fruit. There is only one way to bring forth f...ruit and that is by “abiding in Christ.” Abiding is not accomplished by laboring or earning the right to bear fruit through works. Abiding has the sense of making one's self at home. Abiding is relaxing in what one has already been given. Abiding is not an external effort that can readily be seen, but rather, it is a silent expression of faith. As we trust in Christ and His Finished Work (abiding), we grow in the grace and the knowledge of the Lord. As a result we continually bring forth fruit. Our role in the process calls for us to rest, trust, and abide in Christ. We do so by ever keeping the Cross as our singular object of faith. His role is to produce the fruit. Without Him we can do nothing!

John 15:16 - Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

The Main Reason the Church has been tossed to and fro by EVERY wind of doctrine that comes along is because they have not accepted the reality of the Narrow Way that Jesus taught that only few would find, that being the Way of the Cross of Jesus Christ!

God ONLY works within the perimeters of the Law He has established according to the New Covenant

Romans 8:2
For the LAW OF THE SPIRIT of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

God ONLY works in Truth
Psalm 33:4
For the word of the Lord is right; and ALL his works are done in truth.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 1:2
And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:

Paul’s heart for the Church is continually seen in his greetings to them, which always brings to my mind those in the church today who long to gather with the Saints each week to worship the One Truth Faithful God and His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ! The enemy tells many lies to the people of God to hinder not only their assembling together, but even their desire to do so. Jesus not only gave Himself at Calvary for our forgiveness and acceptance with our Heavenly Father, but also with each other!

Even though this letter will be for the most part a rebuke to the Church in Galatia, it must be seen as a gracious and merciful act by the Lord Himself as He brings the correction and re-direction to His people as He often must do. I’m thankful that sixteen years ago, this very same correction and re-direction was brought to me by His mercy, and today because of that, my heart is ablaze with the Truth of God’s Word and His Righteous fruit, and a part of the fruit of this wonderful move of God in my life is the desire to be planted together with a people of like precious faith! God doesn’t just give us the desires of our hearts, but through faith, He carries them out as well, for this is Grace (Philippians 2:13)!

Bread Crumbs “The Straight Gate” May 30

There are not many roads or ways that lead to a relationship with God. In fact, there is no other name given under heaven whereby men can be saved, but one. That is the precious name of Jesus. Jesus gave His life that all humanity might be saved; at least for those who will believe. The way to God is therefore through a narrow gate. This is a small door, open to all, but only one person at a time may pass through. Once through that straight gate, there lies before the new believer a glorious but difficult road. Nothing could be more magnificent, but no road or way will ever demand more from those who choose to travel upon it. It is the way of the Cross. On this path self must be denied, sin must be overcome, and the cross is to be embraced daily. All trust in personal strengths must be laid aside. This is a difficult way, a narrow way, the way less traveled. But the pleasure and strength that is found along the path is joy unspeakable and the grace freely given for the journey is outstandingly awesome. The sad fact remains that there are precious few that will choose this road. Are you one?

Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (14) Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 1:3
Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,

I believe the reason the Apostle Paul begins many of his letters with the phrase Grace and Peace be to you from God the Father and Our Lord Jesus Christ, was because that’s exactly what the letter would provide if heeded. Paul, the great Apostle to the Gentiles, was the last chosen Apostle given the authority to speak and to write what would be Scripture to God’s people. Paul was given the very Truth of what actually took place at the cross of Jesus Christ, and how it applies not only to one's initial salvation, but also how that Righteous work performed there (Isaiah 32:17) pertains to our daily lives as Christians. Without this knowledge, the Church would be left to itself without the knowledge of the daily power that was provided for us there.

I know most have never heard this sort of teaching, but we need to come to grips with what Grace actually is. For the most part we have believed that Grace just covers over our sins and allows us to live anyway we want as If God didn’t care, or that He does care but because of what Christ did for us at the cross, it doesn’t matter because of Grace. That is NOT even remotely close to what Grace is or does. The Grace of God allows us to be forgiven through faith in the cross of Jesus Christ, accepted with our Heavenly Father and a boat load of other benefits. The Child of God is saved by Grace, taught by Grace and labors exclusively by Grace (Ephesians 2:5-8, 1 Corinthians 15:10, Titus 2:11-14), and it is only imparted to the humble (James 4:6), which are those who come to God through faith in the humble and obedient work of Christ at the cross! God’s Grace is God at work!

Bread Crumbs “A Gospel of Power” May 31

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of power. The supernatural work of the Holy Spirit becomes an active entity when the truth is proclaimed. When men rely on manipulation through fancy phrases or emotional displays devoid of truth, no lasting spiritual work is accomplished. Some ministers move people by a well-timed phrase or a drummed up vision. These promise the moon but do not have the power to cross the street! No lives are changed. But when preachers get down to work and lift up the Lord and His sacrifice on Calvary, the miraculous begins to happen. Sinners chains are efficiently broken. The bruised of body, soul, and spirit are set free. Demons tremble as God sweeps on the scene. There is healing, salvation, deliverance, and life changing dynamic power for those who will believe. Preaching under the anointing of the Holy Spirit is still God’s premiere method (not concerts, talk shows, or psychologists). The Cross of Christ is still God’s message. Paul determined to preach Jesus Christ and Him Crucified. He knew that this was the only message that would enable the faith of the people of God to stand in the power of God. If we truly desire God's people to walk in victorious power, we must do the same!

1 Corinthians 2:4-5 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: (5) That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 1:4
Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

Paul gets right to the point, which is ALWAYS a focus on that which Christ has provided in His death at the cross. Here we are pointed back to the cross of Christ, and our faith therein is the answer for ALL deliverance from this present evil world, and is according to the will of God/Command of God (John 10:18) our Father, our only avenue for deliverance. This doesn’t speak of our initial departure from the guilt and shame of sin at the born again experience alone, for if that's all that mattered, there would be no need for this letter. The Galatians were being bewitched and deceived by those who refused to let go of attempting to work their way to God, and simply accept Christ and His Way of the cross.

Always remember that anything we add to what Christ did at the cross for our entrance into His Kingdom, or to be able to function in His Kingdom, is actually a denial of His Grace (Galatians 2:21), and only causes Him to resist us, for any other way is prideful (Galatians 6:14, James 4:6). The Message of the Cross remains to be the only avenue of the power of God to us who are saved, not just to be saved, but to us “Who are saved.” (1 Corinthians 1:18). Glory to the Lamb forever and forever!
