You are absolutely correct. The worse and harshest sin or addiction one could have is arrogance. That being said, one should try until successful to live a sinless life. That is not easy. It it ain't going to happen in one day, except if Christ was standing next to you and He touched you and said you are forgiven, go and sin no more.
Try not to focus on them, but on the voice of God. For it is by His voice that He guides us and teaches us, when there is no one else around. Or even if there are those that are around that claim they know God's ways. Listen to the Holy Spirit. Do what He says and obey the ten commandments.
