No one has mentioned this yet. But what about eunachs, what about half male half females who are born that way, what about people who have had sex changes. If a woman has a sex change can she then start preaching? What if she had the sex change prior to becoming a christian?, and then decided to go into full time ministry.

snail, if you are serious about this post and I pray that you are not, the eunochs in the bible were usually made that way because they were in charge of of the kings concubines, and they removed their males parts so they wouldn't be tempted to mess with the king's ladies. the few that were born that way would also be men unless they were born with women parts then they would be woman, I personal wouldn't want someone who had a sex change to pastor my Church any way. They played God themselves when they changed the way God made them to the way they wanted to be. and the ones that are born with both parts are usually converted either way early in life aren't they, or I have a better solution won't you right this question down on your list , you know that list of questions you are going to ask God when you get there, and just ask Him when u get there, but to help u until you do get there , if there is a hint that the pastor u are under is a woman, then If you want to obedient to God I would leave and found a Church that has a man pastor. u know one that would be the HUSBAND of one wife

It’s important to understand when reading the holy words that when the bible talks about “For the husband is head of the wife” this is showing Gods order in creation and that men are ranked above woman. God created woman to be a helper (Genesis 2:18) and form a partnership with a men. “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”(Eph 5:31)

The Spirit of Christ can never contradict itself; and if their revelations are against those of the apostle, they do not come from the same Spirit. The way to keep peace, truth, and order in the church, is to seek that which is good for it, to bear with that which is not hurtful to its welfare, and to keep up good behavior, order, and decency.

Pastors must teach sound doctrine both to exhort and convince the gainsayers (Tit. 1:9). Not only is the pastor to encourage and disciple other believers by means of sound doctrine, but also he is to correct and rebuke those who are teaching falsely. It is not enough that he teaches sound doctrine; if he is aware of false teaching being taught among the church of God he is to stop and correct those who are spreading lies.

Please read the verses below

Women Are Subject to Men
many passages teach the subjection of women to men in general
.

Genesis 2:18
18 And the LORD God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”

Genesis 3:16
16 To the woman He said:
“I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception;
In pain you shall bring forth children;
Your desire shall be for your husband,
And he shall rule over you.”

1 Corinthians 11:3
3 But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

1 Corinthians 14:33-36

33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.
34 Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.
36 Or did the word of God come originally from you? Or was it you only that it reached?

1 Timothy 2:12-14
12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

The first argument, why it is not lawful for women to teach in the congregation, because by this means they would be placed above men, for they would be their masters: and this is against God's ordinance.
According to St. Paul, women are not allowed to be public teachers in the church; for teaching is an office of authority. But good women may and ought to teach their children at home the principles of true religion. Also, women must not think themselves excused from learning what is necessary to salvation, though they must not usurp authority. As woman was last in the creation, which is one reason for her subjection, so she was first in the transgression.

1 Timothy 3:4-12
4 one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence 5 (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?); 6 not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

8 Likewise deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money, 9 holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience 10 But let these also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons, being found blameless. 11 Likewise, their wives must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things. 12 Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

Titus 2:4-5
4 that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.

1 Peter 3-6
1 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear. 3 Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— 4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. 5 For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror.

Positions of Authority & Leadership in the Church Are Reserved for Men.
12 Apostles were all men - Acts 1:13.
Elders, who oversee the local church (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:1-3), must be men - 1 Timothy 3:1, 2; Titus 1:5, 6.

Acts 20:28
28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

1 Peter 5
Shepherd the Flock
1 The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: 2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock;

1 Timothy 3
Qualifications of Overseers

1 This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. 2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach; 3 not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; 4 one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence 5 (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?); 6 not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil. 7 Moreover he must have a good testimony among those who are outside, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

Titus 1:5-9
Qualified Elders

5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you— 6 if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination. 7 For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, 8 but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled, 9 holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.

As we see clearly in these verses that the overseers that are to shepherd the Church of God and the appointed elders are clearly male figures the husband of one wife not the wife of one husband.

Women Are Subject to Men in Spiritual Teaching.
Women are expressly forbidden to take a leading role over men in the church or in any circumstance of teaching God's word.

1 Timothy 2:11-14
11 Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. 12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

1 Timothy 2:11-14 - Women are subject to men in spiritual teaching situations.
V13, 14 give two reasons for women's subjection to man.
V13 - First, man was formed before woman. This refers to the creation account of Gen. 2:18ff. See also 1 Cor. 11:3, 8, 9.

1 Corinthians 11:3-9
3 But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved. 6 For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered. 7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. 8 For man is not from woman, but woman from man. 9 Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man.

The order of creation and roles are shown clearly in the scriptures. Man was made for the Glory of God and Woman was formed for the glory of man. For woman was made from man not man made from woman. Woman is to be mans helper and to form a partnership so that man is not alone. God has appointed man to be the overseers of His Church and to guide us in spiritual teaching. God did not appoint a woman for this role because Adam was formed first and Eve being deceived fell into transgression. God is a God of order not confusion and this is why Woman is not to hold leadership in Gods Church. Satan was able to get Eve thinking independently, and deceived her into eating the forbidden fruit. Adam then ate in response to the urging of his wife. By maneuvering them into reversing the roles that God had created them for, Satan was able to lead them into sin (Genesis 3:1-6). As we see in today’s world that Satan is doing it again reversing the roles that God had created for us...

Actually Paul did CLEARLY forbid women from speaking in church, let alone TEACHING . People try to flip it and "Apologetic" there way out of keeping it, explaining that it was for the "corinthian" church , but paul clearly states that teh rule was for all congregations . Not only did paul say they cant speak (the word is speak and not "scream" and makes no mention that the church was particularily louder ) . but he also said tha tthey cant even ask questions which is the opposite of teaching , and which covers teh whole spectrum of speaking period . It is clear , according to paul, women cant speak AT ALL in ANY congregation (unless they are prophesizing apperantly) . However, i dont agree with that rule of pauls so i dont forbid women from speaking in my presence or from even attempting to teach me something .
Paul was a man. He lived in a time when women weren't treated too good. Even though he heard from God he was still a man in human form with his human views of that time. God loves women pastors and is using them all over the world thank God

The man is supposed to be the head. First God...The man is to have God be first. You are to obey your husband. Does the husband obey God. Kinda changes the whole picture if he's not. The man is to love his wife and treat her good, protect her. Some men take the sumit to mean they can boss and be mean and evil to their wives.

WOMEN HAVE BEEN THE BACK BONE FOREVER. WHEN IT WAS ALL SAID AND DONE,JESUS DIED, WHO WAS AT THE FOOT OF THE CROSS, THE WOMEN, THE MEN WERE IN THE DISTANCE. A WOMAN WASHED THE FEET OF JESUS WITH HER OWN HAIR, THE WOMEN WERE THEW FIRST AT THE TOMB OF JESUS. IF WOMEN WERE NOT MEANT TO TEACH OR PREACH GOD WOULD NOT HAVE GIVEN HER THE ANOINTING IT TAKES TO DO SUCH THINGS. WE ARE ALL A PART OF THE BODY OF CHRIST, WE ALL PLAY A ROLE IN THAT BODY. Mt 4:4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, BUT BY EVERY word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

2ti 3:16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
God Can not lie God insipred paul to write what paul wrote we can not pick and choose what scriptures we want to live by. if the pastor is to be the Husband of one wife is not God inspired, then how do we know john 3:16 is inspired By God . Again I ask how can a woman pastor tell her flock to be obedient to the Word of God , when She is in open disobedience her self, by being a pastor, the pastor of a Church has to have authority through Jesus Christ, over the Church, God wouldn't call a woman to pastor and have authority over the men of that Church, He will never or can never or against His Word

1ti 2:12But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp AUTHORITY over the man, but to be in silence.
God never loves it when his people go against His Word
Joh 14:15If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Joh 15:10If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

Now look at II Timothy 3:16. Notice the word “inspiration” meaning God breathed or divinely breathed out. These writings, all of them, are God breathed. They are inherently authoritative because of whose words they are. Then in II Peter 1:21, men were moved upon by the Spirit of God, the scriptures came not by man’s will, or by his determination. No human originated one single word of Scripture. These men were borne along, carried along not according to their will but according to God’s will.

I want to direct your attention to what Paul said in I Cor. 14:37, “If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.” Paul is instructing the Corinthian assembly that these words regarding the rules of speaking prophetically or using an unlearned language within the assembly are to be acknowledged as the commandments of the Lord. Not suggestions, not proposals or propositions but commands, demands, charges, instructions, decrees, mandates, orders, or authoritative divine directives because of their origin and their author. He is declaring the authority of the Scriptures. These words as commandments are to be known, “epiginōskō” perceived, or recognized. He is stating that they should become fully acquainted with them. Paul wrote these words by inspiration, he wrote them under the direction of the Holy Spirit and then defended them as such. We are to tell people what the word of God declares, expound them, clarify them and then call for obedience to them. This means not declaring our opinions but the commandments of the Lord.

Let loose the word of God upon ourselves as in I Timothy 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. Teach the word, not philosophy. Preach the word not opinions. Explore and expound the word. Don’t conceal it, obscure it, or hide the word. Preach the word, let the lion loose against the ignorance of man.

why it is not lawful for women to teach in the congregation, because by this means they would be placed above men, for they would be their masters: and this is against God's ordinance.
It all goes back to the order of creation.

Hi Giggagirl thanks for posting and defending the scriptures.

Giggagirl you seem to be copying and pasting from some commentary or something. May I ask what it is?

To everyone here who thinks 1 Timothy 2:11-12 does not apply today, please look at the verse after. Paul gives a basis:

13For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

So, clearly, this principle (women not teaching or having authority over men in the church) is based on creation -- not the particular culture, society, or local situation of Paul's letter -- and therefore most definitely applies to us in the church today.

Actually Paul did CLEARLY forbid women from speaking in church, let alone TEACHING . People try to flip it and "Apologetic" there way out of keeping it, explaining that it was for the "corinthian" church .

in Greek, some words have several meanings
in Greek gune means
a)woman
b) wife

aner means
a)male
b)husband

different translators can pick either translation

So if you have the verse from 1 Timothy 2:11-12

" A WIFE should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a WIFE to teach or to have authority over a HUSBAND; she must be silent."

some translations are used with a or b. it depends on the translator. you can see these translations at NET.bible.org

this is what you need to be aware of, to keep out of error.

to learn more about this, take a look at this teaching from Monica Dennington. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e988cBOC5Yw&feature=channel_page

Well that sounds even more extreme, Annahay. Even in the home, with just the husband, the woman is to learn in silence?

(Anyway I keep hearing this argument -- the truth is that the context of "receive instruction" and "teach" and the overall context of the letter make it pretty clear that it's a context of formal group Biblical instruction -- i.e., the church). (Not to mention 1 Cor 14:34-35 where it spells out "in the church".)

Peace be to you
If it brings any comfort to you; all you views are a little right.
Pray to God for understanding, I was getting angry with you all about this had to step away.

I wanted to say the meaning.God says it is for those he chooses to show. So if you do seek wisdom and Love God ask him in prayer. The truth is alot easyer on the ears and heart.

Love God with all your heart mind and soul,Love your nieghber like you love yourself.stay away from idols, honor your mother and father

If any doctrine doesnt fufill these scriptures. It is untrue.

It seems that the majority seem to believe that women should not be allowed to teach Christianity. There does also seem to be some feeling against feminism as a whole. I'd be interested to hear peoples opinions on other rights for women, especially from Thaddaeus and RoboOp.

  • Should women be allowed to vote?
  • Should women be allowed to work (outside of the house)?
  • Should women be allowed to participate in government and law making?
  • Should women be allowed the same rights in law?
  • Should women have the same right to education as men?

Yes, because jezebel tried to control the church. The church is the bride of Christ. and He rules over us. same way with husbands and wifes. The husband is the head over the wife, not in a carnal commanding way that makes a woman inferiour, but in a guiding way as a head covering.

people misinterpret scripture.

Well if man is the leader in the home, it's just consistent that the church is also male-led.

It wouldn't make much sense if a woman is under her husband but in the church she's over him as "the pastor".

So if you believe that "The husband is the head over the wife" (your words), "in a guiding way as a head covering" (your words again), then it makes perfect sense that in the church there is also this male "headship" and "guiding", "covering". :)
