I believe that the Bible suggests there are degrees of punishment in hell, as we saw in Matthew 23:14 - "greater condemnation."

Also, read what Jesus said in Matthew 11:21 - Jesus said, “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 Nevertheless I say to you, it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment, than for you. 23 "And you, Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You shall descend to Hades; for if the miracles had occurred in Sodom which occurred in you, it would have remained to this day. 24 “Nevertheless I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you."

The statement, "it will be more tolerable" certainly suggests degrees of some sort. Yet, this revolves around the amount of revelation received and rejected. Regardless, they will be in hell because they never trusted in Christ for salvation. The greater the revelation, the greater the responsibility to receive it and thus the greater the condemnation as well. We certainly see that with the Pharisees.
it does seem to imply that

i was hoping for a solid 100% answer...

greater condemnation can also imply - stricter judgement

either way

lol
thank you too dan

great verses and after go over luke again its back to matthew

God bless

do your homework!

cee is a 'flitter' stirrer, sent here by the 'big-boys-club', he is so very shameful,
that only certain words that we will not utter describe him...
This is really an ugly slander. Admittedly I haven't seen every post from Cee since I have been here since 2013, But every one I have seen have been edifying and full of love.

These are serious charges you are bringing against this individual. What is a "flitter stirrer", and what "big boy club" are you talking about? And calling him shameful?

I am really surprised to hear you speak about someone like this. Can you please explain?

the point of the question was

is there a harsher form of hell

or is there a different standard

i know for a fact there is a different standard assuming what i have learned so far is true

but the possibility of a WORSE punishment is something ive considered with less evidence to back it up
Here's the scripture with context:
Luke 12
41Peter said, “Lord, are You addressing this parable to us, or to everyone else as well?” 42And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and sensible steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time? 43Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes. 44“Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45“But if that slave says in his heart, ‘My master will be a long time in coming,’ and begins to beat the slaves, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk; 46the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers. 47“And that slave who knew his master’s will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will receive many lashes, 48but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.

This teaches about those that come into the kingdom & are given ministries.

The one that didn't know & the one that did doesn't necessarily mean one was given more than the other because of differences in learning ability.

It could have easily been a new convert & a college professor with 40 years of ministry.

Whatever they were, both forsook Christ & received their judgment according to their responsibility of ministry.

This scripture also proves that those saved & entrusted with ministry of some kind will go to Hell for refusing to continue in the faith.

The just shall live by faith.

Let no one deceive you that they will be beaten & still make it in.
(someone will try
;))

New International Version
Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that "We all possess knowledge." But knowledge puffs up while love builds up.

New Living Translation
Now regarding your question about food that has been offered to idols. Yes, we know that "we all have knowledge" about this issue. But while knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church.

English Standard Version
Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that “all of us possess knowledge.” This “knowledge” puffs up, but love builds up.

New American Standard Bible
Now concerning things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge makes arrogant, but love edifies.

Those with knowledge(Biblical, financial, scientific, etc.) have to walk a tightrope to keep that knowledge from building arrogance & pride within them. If they don't, no one can get along with them.

College professors, politicians, those in the religious hierarchy, military strategists, & millionaires/billionaires are examples of such people who become overtaken with pride & cannot see what's happening to them.

Tacticians on CC have pride issues because they take great pride in their ability and strategies to battle with true believers.

So, yes, it can happen to anybody.

As a matter of fact, I do have issues with pride. All the time. Many preachers do.

God knew Paul dealt with it & even sent Paul someone to keep him humble:

2 Corinthians 12
1Boasting is necessary, though it is not profitable; but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. 2I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a man was caught up to the third heaven. 3And I know how such a man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, God knows— 4was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which a man is not permitted to speak. 5On behalf of such a man I will boast; but on my own behalf I will not boast, except in regard to my weaknesses. 6For if I do wish to boast I will not be foolish, for I will be speaking the truth; but I refrain from this,so that no one will credit me with more than he sees in me or hears from me.Paul knew in his Apostleship folks would look to him as some great one. He says he has got the goods, so to speak, but he refuses to flaunt it, knowing people would put him high on a pillar of honor.

7Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me—to keep me from exalting myself!8Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. 9And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

11You have made me act like a fool—boasting like this.[SUP]c[/SUP] You ought to be writing commendations for me, for I am not at all inferior to these “super apostles,” even though I am nothing at all. 12When I was with you, I certainly gave you proof that I am an apostle. For I patiently did many signs and wonders and miracles among you. 13The only thing I failed to do, which I do in the other churches, was to become a financial burden to you. Please forgive me for this wrong!

Paul knew the power of his calling, & at the same time considered himself nothing. That was the only way He could be the apostle God wanted him to be.

Jesus made it plain how the disciples/apostles were to conduct their ministry:

Mark 10 ESV
42And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,[SUP]d[/SUP]44and whoever would be first among you must be slave[SUP]e[/SUP] of all.45
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Stephen, even IF you are all that and a bag of chips in the Biblical knowledge dept., why aren't you using that knowledge to edify in love?

And why do you consistently COMPLETELY disregard ! Corinthians 13?

[h=1]1 Corinthians 13New King James Version (NKJV)[/h][h=3]The Greatest Gift[/h][FONT=&quot]13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, it profits me nothing.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.[/FONT]
[FONT=&quot]8 Love never fails. Hi McGee,

I didn't realize you were thinking that James 3 was referring to hell. I don't believe it is.

The 2 Peter scripture is speaking of false teachers that infiltrate the church to bring in heresies purposefully.

James 3 is speaking to men of the church who desire to be a teacher. He's warning them to not multiply too many teachers in the church.

Kind of like a sober warning to those who want to teach that they are an example for the flock and if they are off in their teaching then their discipline will be that much stricter.

That's how I see it anyway. :)

The Greatest Gift

You, sir, cannot say I don't have love for reproving & teaching truth. That's a judgment call.

Neither can I say you have love simply because you talk it up.

You have to be thinking of someone else. Cee is the most laidback, easygoing member other than tourist, that we have. This post was unusual. But, everyone has a limit.
I agree with Cee's post and have said many times we need to not interact with certain types because of their foul behavior.

Whenever someone says something that is different from their own church beliefs - you will see the anger and bitterness come out when people are being showed the malice and bitterness they actually have. It's the nature of the beast.

I will say it again "boldly" and in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ - exhibiting malice and bitterness and the slandering of others in the body of Christ along with deceit is the same thing as living the homosexual lifestyle. They are all in the same lists together.

We really need to put Romans 16:17 into place with those that exhibit this foul behavior. As both parties can end up in a Hebrews 12:15 situation. 1 Cor. 15:33 is also in play here too. We need to be guarding our hearts.
