(Ephesians 2:8-9) "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast."
(Rom. 3:20, 28) "because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin...For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law."
(Galatians 2:16) "nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified."
Some people want to carry what our condition is when we first confess Christ, throughout the time they have received the Spirit, but when someone receives the Spirit the condition changes.
The condition of being in the flesh, and what applies,is different than receiving the Spirit, and what applies, for one is fleshy, and the other is spiritual.
When Paul says by faith alone, and not saved by works,he is speaking when we first confess Christ, for that is all we can do because our condition is not yet spiritual.
James is speaking after someone receives the Spirit, that you now have to do works of the Spirit.
Paul addresses our condition when we have not received the Spirit yet, that nothing we do from a fleshy perpective will save us,like Gentile religions, and their works, and the Old Testament physical ordinances.
No flesh, flesh, shall be justified by the law,for the flesh cannot live up to the law,but by the Spirit the condition changes, and Paul said we do not void out the law through faith, but we establish the law.
People have to realize when the Bible is speaking from the perspective of the flesh, and the perspective of the Spirit.
Jas 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
Jas 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
Jas 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
Jas 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
Jas 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
Rev 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
Rev 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
Rev 3:2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
Rev 3:3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
Rom 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
By our flesh we are not good enough to inherit eternal life, but by the Spirit we can inherit eternal life, because we can be like the man Christ Jesus.
Some people want to carry the condition of when we first confess Christ, faith alone, not saved by works, not justified by the law, even after they receive the Spirit, but when they receive the Spirit the condition changes to spiritual, not fleshy,so the rules are one with responsibility, that if a person lacks Jesus says, repent.
